  1. That message from Melanie is so thoughtful. Thanks for sharing this @Soapsuds. It’s so funny that Kim Johnston Ulrich was also there alongside Melanie because I always imagined that if they were going to bring back Betsy in the final years of the series, Johnston Ulrich likely would have made a great Betsy recast. I can only imagine how great their scenes could have been with Melanie and Kim playing off each other.

Three hours after I got the PR (yes, I was sitting on it), and I'm still crying.

I'll take either option, but you're point is valid. It would be easier to sell a daily soap as a half-hour one, but they need another half-hour show to work it in the schedule. The only other "half-hour" show they have is Drew Barrymore, but that's only based on a technicality, and the show airs way too early in the morning on the CBS Owned stations for it to help in any way (if at all). That, and Drew is syndicated.

Although it moved down a slot, #TheGates is now part of the "Soap operas - Trending" category on X (formerly Twitter):

I know that Spoutible is a relatively new SM platform but someone (not me) has already posted about it there too, fwiw.☺️

Imagine if Victoria Rowell is involved in this... ok, I'm really getting my hopes up now...

I had a cheeky thought and giggled. What if we get Angie, Jessie, VR as someone new and like, Jessica Griffin?😂 Every living black actor who has done soaps in the recent past may come out for this.

Let’s discuss Procter & Gamble’s role in this. Did they hear me cursing them out for years for their abandonment of soaps and how they’ve been foolishly ignoring opportunities to create venues to advertise their own products? It would be good if they could have a separate streaming platform from CBS but somehow I don’t think they’re that smart.

Huh? Why is Kristoff being brought into this? Way off topic.

To keep on topic, all accounts say that Helen Wagner was a fighter to the end. She worked right up until the end with all of her faculties and Don Hastings confirmed it.  None of us will ever know what her response was to Hogan Sheffer.

    Feel free to ignore then.

Thanks for your response @Mitch64 I see what you are saying.

Knowing how abrupt and straight forward Helen Wagner could be, I wonder what her response was to Hogan Sheffer. Helen wasn't a shrinking violet.

Helen Wagner of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s may have been a different Helen Wagner from the last 10-12 years of the show when she was of advanced years and coping with illness. Sort of akin to how vulnerable the actor Kristoff St. John was after the death of his son and he was practically pleading to be used more by Y&R to no avail. After his death, a friend and colleague of Kristoff’s pretty much said that, after such a difficult time with the loss of his son, work was really Kristoff’s refuge and even that had been taken away from him.

I saw a tweet earlier where someone said they thought she assumed Mark Kelly would lose in 2022 and that would chart her whole course. It didn't happen. This is going to be very close (Lake almost won the gubernatorial race in what may have been a much better year for Democrats than 2024 might be), so I guess at least she didn't stay in as a spoiler.

You think so? I guess we will have to bookmark this and see.

And in what world are people really paying attention at this point. Trump is underperforming in every primary but he's dominating?

TBH, I doubt most people are paying that much attention maybe in the summertime, closer to Labor Day people will begin to tune in more but for now it seems like selected media outlets have the run of things to spin these narratives. Even BBC, which normally doesn’t adhere to the herd mentality of U.S. News had their American pundits on, one of them waxing on about the tedium of this year’s “Super Tuesday” and Joe’s age. People are just not being serious right now.

I watch every year and it gets worse every year.😂

I went to bed right after I posted this as I realized how late it had gotten. The crowd seemed muted. I know that the IW crowd skews toward elderly but last night’s events seemed particularly lackluster.
As I have said previously, if tennis is going to prevent the sport from falling into an abyss where interest is concerned, they have to stop with the “day at the office” narrative and try to get some excitement in the building. Many of their current “stars” don’t have much personality and the ones that do, they try to stifle, with respectability politics and cookie cutter notions of what a superstar player should be like. It’s beyond boring.

It’s going to be interesting to see what her level of play will be when she returns. For many reasons.

I think if it was Marisa Tomei, she would have said her name because people would know who that was.

If it were Marisa Tomei, I think she would have said so also but not because of her name but because she and Julianne are close and Tomei would be cool with it, they are actually distant cousins. She may not want to reveal the person as she may not know if the person is cool with her revealing the name. Or the actress may no longer be with us.

I feel like Marisa would have already told the story herself had it been her lol.

  10. @Soapsuds Okay, so this interview with Jimmy Fallon came up in my recommendations and Julianne Moore mentions when she was on a soap opera (she didn’t mention which one, but ATWT is the soap she almost always mentions since her appearance on EON was quite brief) there was an actress who Moore could never keep a straight face with, if she looked her in the eyes, she had to look at her mouth as the actress was speaking. Now, I am trying to wrack my brain, trying to figure out who that was. I think I may have a candidate but I am keeping any guesses to myself in the event that I’m wrong 🤣.

  11. One of my good friends who lives in Phoenix said over a year ago that Sinema wouldn’t be getting another term.
Sinema thought she was being clever by what she believed was spiting the Democrats, only to isolate herself and undermine what capabilities she might have had. Her constituents have little to no use for her and haven’t for quite some time.

Yes. Sad as it may be admit, Michael O'Leary was not leading-man material, and that only became more apparent as the years went on, and the actor's "mugging" escalated.

Both Christopher Hughes and Rick Bauer needed  strong, dynamic, charismatic actors to make the roles succeed, and that never came to be.

What did you think of the relationship between Phillip Spaulding and Rick Bauer? To me, it seemed as if Phillip was supposed to be the “Alpha” male, while Rick was always the…well, not to be mean, but the “Beta”. Someone probably thought that, with Rick being from a surviving core family, they’d try to make him an “Alpha”, which is not a convincing role for him, especially as portrayed by Michael O’Leary, an actor best suited for playing the comedic sidekick, not the heavy, as portrayed by Grant Aleksander.

Maybe as an adult, Chris Hughes needed a “Rick Bauer” type to offer a contrast. Phillip and even Rick seemed like much better developed characters than Chris. Viewers at least saw the final stages of their teenage years into adulthood. Did we even see a teenage Chris Hughes with friends like we saw Andy and Paul or was it a Casey Hughes-like situation? Seemed as if Casey was slingshot into adulthood directly from early adolescence.

And Chris Hughes seemed to go through that same transition. Maybe who paid more attention to Chris Hughes maturation process someone can tell me if he had a teenage cohort, or a high school girlfriend or a graduation like other characters in the past.
