Knowing how abrupt and straight forward Helen Wagner could be, I wonder what her response was to Hogan Sheffer. Helen wasn't a shrinking violet.

Helen Wagner of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s may have been a different Helen Wagner from the last 10-12 years of the show when she was of advanced years and coping with illness. Sort of akin to how vulnerable the actor Kristoff St. John was after the death of his son and he was practically pleading to be used more by Y&R to no avail. After his death, a friend and colleague of Kristoff’s pretty much said that, after such a difficult time with the loss of his son, work was really Kristoff’s refuge and even that had been taken away from him.

I saw a tweet earlier where someone said they thought she assumed Mark Kelly would lose in 2022 and that would chart her whole course. It didn't happen. This is going to be very close (Lake almost won the gubernatorial race in what may have been a much better year for Democrats than 2024 might be), so I guess at least she didn't stay in as a spoiler.

You think so? I guess we will have to bookmark this and see.

And in what world are people really paying attention at this point. Trump is underperforming in every primary but he's dominating?

TBH, I doubt most people are paying that much attention maybe in the summertime, closer to Labor Day people will begin to tune in more but for now it seems like selected media outlets have the run of things to spin these narratives. Even BBC, which normally doesn’t adhere to the herd mentality of U.S. News had their American pundits on, one of them waxing on about the tedium of this year’s “Super Tuesday” and Joe’s age. People are just not being serious right now.

I watch every year and it gets worse every year.😂

I went to bed right after I posted this as I realized how late it had gotten. The crowd seemed muted. I know that the IW crowd skews toward elderly but last night’s events seemed particularly lackluster.
As I have said previously, if tennis is going to prevent the sport from falling into an abyss where interest is concerned, they have to stop with the “day at the office” narrative and try to get some excitement in the building. Many of their current “stars” don’t have much personality and the ones that do, they try to stifle, with respectability politics and cookie cutter notions of what a superstar player should be like. It’s beyond boring.

It’s going to be interesting to see what her level of play will be when she returns. For many reasons.

I think if it was Marisa Tomei, she would have said her name because people would know who that was.

If it were Marisa Tomei, I think she would have said so also but not because of her name but because she and Julianne are close and Tomei would be cool with it, they are actually distant cousins. She may not want to reveal the person as she may not know if the person is cool with her revealing the name. Or the actress may no longer be with us.

I feel like Marisa would have already told the story herself had it been her lol.

  6. @Soapsuds Okay, so this interview with Jimmy Fallon came up in my recommendations and Julianne Moore mentions when she was on a soap opera (she didn’t mention which one, but ATWT is the soap she almost always mentions since her appearance on EON was quite brief) there was an actress who Moore could never keep a straight face with, if she looked her in the eyes, she had to look at her mouth as the actress was speaking. Now, I am trying to wrack my brain, trying to figure out who that was. I think I may have a candidate but I am keeping any guesses to myself in the event that I’m wrong 🤣.

  7. One of my good friends who lives in Phoenix said over a year ago that Sinema wouldn’t be getting another term.
Sinema thought she was being clever by what she believed was spiting the Democrats, only to isolate herself and undermine what capabilities she might have had. Her constituents have little to no use for her and haven’t for quite some time.

Yes. Sad as it may be admit, Michael O'Leary was not leading-man material, and that only became more apparent as the years went on, and the actor's "mugging" escalated.

Both Christopher Hughes and Rick Bauer needed  strong, dynamic, charismatic actors to make the roles succeed, and that never came to be.

What did you think of the relationship between Phillip Spaulding and Rick Bauer? To me, it seemed as if Phillip was supposed to be the “Alpha” male, while Rick was always the…well, not to be mean, but the “Beta”. Someone probably thought that, with Rick being from a surviving core family, they’d try to make him an “Alpha”, which is not a convincing role for him, especially as portrayed by Michael O’Leary, an actor best suited for playing the comedic sidekick, not the heavy, as portrayed by Grant Aleksander.

Maybe as an adult, Chris Hughes needed a “Rick Bauer” type to offer a contrast. Phillip and even Rick seemed like much better developed characters than Chris. Viewers at least saw the final stages of their teenage years into adulthood. Did we even see a teenage Chris Hughes with friends like we saw Andy and Paul or was it a Casey Hughes-like situation? Seemed as if Casey was slingshot into adulthood directly from early adolescence.

And Chris Hughes seemed to go through that same transition. Maybe who paid more attention to Chris Hughes maturation process someone can tell me if he had a teenage cohort, or a high school girlfriend or a graduation like other characters in the past.

The speech was extroadinary and obviously designed for this occasion. She said out loud what Biden I believe has wanted to say for months. Couple this with Benny Gantz, Bibi's opponent and current member of the Israeli war cabinet visiting DC and specifically meeting with VP Harris.  Netanyahu has not been invited to DC and refused to sanction or pay for Gantz's visit. Childish.

The non peaceful protests of those men and include Ghandi and many others over the centuries says so much about that strategy. But lets not kid ourselves, all the actions of peace have not worked and many of those involved like Ghandi, MLK, heck even through in Jesus whether you believe in him as the savior or simply Jesus of Nazareth, so many of their own lives ended in tragedy. I do wonder what MLK's trajectory would have been had he lived. Sadly he was not destined to.

MLK’s popularity was at an all time low before he was assassinated. This is something that Americans in general do not like to admit. His stance on the Vietnam War, as well as his highlighting of America’s lack of will and general hypocrisy regarding diminishing poverty made him very unpopular.
The ANC is probably a better equivalent of a political organization that once embraced, then abandoned armed struggle because the leaders knew that bombing and shooting were not going to shift anyone (except maybe the most extreme) over to sympathize with them and their struggle. One of the reasons why I mentioned how much in awe I am in MLK and Mandela specifically has to do with their sacrifice and discipline, realizing that few would subject themselves to putting their lives at risk for a greater good. It’s ever more clear how few would take this path.

Gandhi, yes, I know his passive resistance movement was very much the inspiration for the 20th century Civil Rights movement but for me, as a Black person, Gandhi is a bit of …I have some ambivalence where he is concerned. He held some very distasteful views, namely his views on Blacks and women, of which I am both.

  10. Vice President Kamala Harris gave an evenhanded speech, imo on the Edmund Pettis Bridge about the Israeli Hamas war and what needs to be done. Will her admonitions be heard? I don’t know.
Thinking about all of this and the nature of conflict, particularly armed conflict, it really strengthens my belief that Dr. Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela were extraordinary individuals. King was an unfailing advocate for nonviolent action in the face of constant threats and inhumane treatment. Nelson Mandela, was one of the main proponents for the ANC turning away from armed struggle in the face of the brutality of apartheid. I realize more and more how difficult that must of been and what discipline it must have taken to go down this path. Of course, it took decades and still the ultimate goals have yet to be fulfilled but both movements realized that armed conflict would have made those objectives even harder to achieve.

Whatever you posted here, it's gone now. I tried quoting but it's a disappeared spoutible.   I remember reading what you'd linked to and I was fascinated by the article, so I came back here to find it today, but it's gone now.

Do you remember what it said?  I think it was a study about how different bodies have immune cells that respond differently to respiratory stuff? Or something like that?

Sorry, I wish I could remember what it was. Perhaps the person removed the tweet. There’s also the unfortunate possibility that the account was removed.

By any chance, was it this?

    https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/study-ids-immune-abnormality-possibly-causing-long-covid-2024a10003iu?form=fpf

While doing a brief search, I saw an article about alternating arms for receiving the vaccine possibly boosting the immune response. I know that I didn’t post anything about that but I just found this fascinating as I have switched up arms.

I don't know if he didn't know that much, or it was more of a joke...( I can see his Mom saying, "Oh I was kidnapped a lot") and Lindsay seems much more into her art, etc. and probably was while he was growing up..and let's face it, he was of a generation where ATWT and soaps in general did not have the iconic place in pop culture.

And it probably wasn’t a hot topic of conversation in his household either lol.

Did Lindsay's dad, Warren Frost, ever appear on ATWT?  Because, for some reason, I'm thinking he did, but I'm not 100% sure.

When @Mitch64posted about Lucas Giolito’s mere glancing awareness of his mother’s soap career, I immediately wondered if he knew much about his grandfather’s acting career, much less soap acting career.
When I watched as a kid, of course, I had no idea of the real life connections between any of the actors on this show.

I mean, James Stenbeck’s Oakdale PD stooge married to Betsy Andropoulos? Beatrice the Basket case McKechnie married to cocky doctor Casey Peretti? Who’d of thought?

He's clearly not fit to serve for much longer.

Honestly, I was disappointed when I got clarification about him not leaving the Senate. Are the people of Kentucky satisfied with his job performance? No rational person could be.

And a few days ago, I read about Clarence Thomas (aka, the living, breathing minstrel show cloaked in justice’s robe) and his new clerk. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were more impropriety going on there than meets the eye.

  17. McConnell is only stepping down from the Leader position of his party in Senate (a position in name only anyway, since everyone knows who runs the GOP on both sides of the aisle). From what I understand, he is not stepping down from the Senate, unless there is another announcement expected that we don’t know about.

  18. So, what’s his face is trying to get away with posting $100 million bond and the judge rejected the amount? I have been asking folks where did they think that he was going to get the money and it’s as if people believed he would easily come up with it. I also express doubt that he could find a bonding company, not without paying a ton of interest.

Does anyone know who this is?
