Jonathan Gilbert coming back into the fold has probably been the most special thing of this 50th anniversary year. You could tell that he was a little hesitant in the beginning to embrace being part of such a devoted fandom, but he's certainly found some comfort in it, and it's just really sweet. I hope we hear more from him as time goes on.

I am curious to know whether he and Melissa are on speaking terms now. I had read something from Melissa that suggested that he had cut her and other family members out of his life.

They seemed to open to the door to Shick redux with the Cameron Kirsten story, but obviously something is going on with Y&R and Sharon Case.

Ironically, Sharon has proven to be capable of convincingly portraying a mother to her adult daughter. Perhaps because that chemistry with CG was allowed to grow as the viewers watched the character and the actress grow (oh, the possibilities when you don’t SORAS the actress).

That's because Joshua Morrow has not evolved from being an overgrown frat boy. To think we are two months away from his 30th anniversary.

TPTB at Y&R/Sony could have nipped this in the bud 10-12 years ago, having him improve or replaced but they chose not to, perhaps they approved of what he was doing with his performance. And here things stand, with Nick seemingly unable to demonstrate a fully organic parental relationship with his adult children.

Nick’s relative absence in Summer’s world has been a huge WTF. Perhaps because they don’t see him as credible in that role? OK? So now what? Gonna do anything about that, folks? (I don’t mind him as Summer’s dad, but he struggles with the Noahs. He’s great with Faith but that’s age-appropriate. Too bad Faith isn’t a thing.)

This show is such a frustrating waste.

JMO here, but once his kids get to adult stage, Nick seems to struggle to perform as a father. I haven’t watched nearly enough episodes in recent times to discern whether it’s the writing, the acting, a chemistry thing that has result from so many recasts of Noah and Summer (in addition to the SORAS) or lack of direction in each scene but in recent years, I have noticed this.

  5. Has this been confirmed?

It seems as though there has been a lot of um, movement at Sony these days. Here’s another, in tangentially related news-

Miller has already got a strike against him, imo for that dreadful animated version of Good Times that his company is a part of.

it actually began in 1995, when john valente replaced laurie caso. there was a lot of pressure from cbs, which had engineered the executive producer shuffle, and it was les moonves who ‘suggested’ valente hire black&stern as head writers.

i was on the set the day they shot the 40th anniversary episode and the constant refrain from tptb was ‘we’re not 40 years old; we 40 years young!’

and for the second time, the hughes family was pushed to the sidelines. the first time was in the early 1980s, as atwt chased the luke and laura phenomenon. ironically, it was laurie caso who righted the ship with bob calhoun and doug marland, which he discusses in the locher room interview (amazed that it’s been a week and no one has commented).

things deteriorated further when goutman took over and brought on hogan schefer. the [!@#$%^&*] really hit the fan in 2003, when barbra bloom took over at cbs daytime and start bringing on actors she worked with at abc. although, to be fair, the abcification began in 1997, when felicia mini behr took over from john valente and immediately replaced allyson rice taylor’s connor walsh with susan battan — possibly the worst recast ever!

Thanks for providing that account of the series of events. My attention waned during that period but truly hit its nadir in the final 10.

oh cool, Ketty Lester was there.  I remember her from Little House, but she was also on Days as Valerie Grant's mother Helen.

Before I read and posted this article, I scrolled the length of it and was happy to see her photo.
Of the major living cast members, there were very few (2, 3 at most) who were absent and hopefully before the end of the year, we might see Melissa Sue Anderson and Matthew Labyorteaux join them.

Also, for such a large cast, it’s very cool not to have to ponder any problematic personalities (I’m looking at you, Kirk Cameron and Rick Schroeder!) from series I watched as a little kid.

I was wondering the same thing.

This article had enough food ‘for thought’ that I decided to post it but there were a few other articles that I came across and decided not to post because of glaring errors and inaccuracies. One article stated that P&G’s last on air soap was Guiding Light. It would have been nice if someone had fact-checked before hitting publishing.

  9. It’s so great that they were able to get as many former cast members as they could. I was surprised to see Jonathan Gilbert as I thought he was estranged from his sister and the entire Little House brand. And it was touching to see photos of the sons of Victor French and Michael Landon there.

I got the whole series on blu ray when it was released a few years ago.

I have the series of books…somewhere.
