  1. This woman was harassed by him and ignored after she complained, so I'm glad she's making it public.

  2. It's about matchups, I think.  Thiem's game feeds almost directly to Kei's strengths.  So much so that it almost looked like Kei could anticipate where Thiem's shots were headed.  Also, Kei looked really confident out there today.

  3. If companies like Warner Brothers and whomever owns United Artists this week can't maintain these classic movies then they should all be on Hoopla and Kanopy and large public libraries like the New York Public Library where streaming platforms are large enough to accommodate a large streaming viewership.

If there are recordings from any medium, in this day and age, the technology is out there to preserve them.  It's time consuming, sure but it's not prohibitively expensive.  Send them to a University library, a large public library, a public streaming service.

Also, I'm convinced that a concerted public effort to push these companies to do so, is the only real way I see this happening.  If we don't agitate and get petitions and contact people, this likely won't happen and we can see titles fade and degrade, more and more, each year until we are unable to recover them.  That's likely happening with many episodes of our beloved soaps, every single year.

To go on a bit of a rant, soap fans have been putting their energies in the wrong direction.  Trying to get cancelled soaps back on their own networks is the wrong move.  And honestly, why would you subject a show's creative staff to that type of pressure, where they're likely to have bean counters breathing down their necks to water down the stories and put in the cheapest looking sets known to broadcast television??

Why not, instead, put your energies to preserving the gems of daytime dramatic television that are currently collecting dust, to prevent degradation and ensure future accessibility?  Why are we soap fans not at least trying to agitate for this?

As a fan of ATWT, I realize that some of the best episodes are not on YouTube and I may never see these episodes ever again.  Even the ones currently on YouTube can get swept away at any time.  It bothers me as a soap fan.  Doesn't this bother anyone else??

The last I checked, there are even grants out there to help with film preservation for projects with merit.  A daytime television staple such as the daytime drama seems to merit such preservation efforts.

It's much like that person's tweet about film buffs needing to make the effort to see that the legacy of these films is not disregarded.  The same can be said of soap fans.  If these soaps were of no value than the likes of Sony/Bell, etc. would not be hoarding and carefully curating their collections.  P&G/PGP obviously believed that their shows had value, judging by the SoapClassics effort and I believe this is still the case even if they lack the motivation to make good on it.

  4. ^^ I'm not really sure at the moment.  I started to listen to the livestream and then clicked off when they went live to the White House.

Even before the arrest, news outlets have been discussing the common features of each envelope as if to suggest the same person but I'm not sure whether this is for all or some of the packages.

Lots of spelling errors on how the packages are addressed and the fact that they were sent through the USPS makes me wonder about the intellectual fitness of the suspect.

  5. Are people going to act as if this is the worst it's ever been?  This country has reports of children being bombed in churches during the 1960s.  Back then, I wonder whether people could've ever conceived of a Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, I'm sparing a thought for the people who have to deliver the mail.  Having a job with the Post Office used to be considered a good job with steady benefits but with all we have seen in the last decade or so, with how the USPS is languishing and then there is the inherent dangers of possible explosives being sent in the mail, those post office jobs don't look so great, after all.

I feel for the people who must deliver the mail.  Surely, they're not being paid nearly enough to have to deal with this sort of thing.

They probably know that if they stick with Trump they will get sweeteners to help bail them out, even if the public gets screwed over.

I keep reading that what we're doing to China is a big reason for our slump, because they're slumping. Yet no one in the White House (no one with any voice anyway) saw this coming, or cared. They don't care about anything but themselves and their nihilism and bigotry.

The markets are not about the ordinary person but about shareholders.  Remember that distinction between Wall Street and Main Street?  This is about Wall Street and Wall Street does not like volatility and from everything I've read over the years, neither do they like a Bear market, which is what this is threatening to become (if it isn't already there).

Financial pain will eventually trickle down to the masses when things get bad enough (or if it's in an industry that affects consumers like the housing market) but the gains on Wall Street are rarely felt by the masses, and these  subsequent shake ups are acutely felt by Wall Street, and K Street, by extension.

  7. Also, I'm watching to see how long the financial markets continue their downward slide.  The S&P 500 has already lost all the gains it made in 2018.  I wonder how much sustained support and complicity Trump Inc. can expect if they continue to tank financial markets?  Especially through Election Day?

  8. Also, aren't Tsitsipas and Medvedev's families friendly with each other?  Tsitsipas' mother is Russian.

In fact, from what I remember, both players' mothers completely blew off the incident, claiming that both guys actually get along well off-court.

  9. People who are dismissively calling these "hoax bombs" are missing the entire point.  Whether the devices cause carnage or not, the intent is to terrorize people and upend their lives, which is why the media needs to grow a backbone and call it what it is...domestic terrorism.

  10. At this time of political chaos, let's not forget about the everyday corruption that still occurs on a daily basis.

  11. James Karen had such an impressive body of work (his final project is still in production), I'm pretty sure everyone on this board knows him from somewhere. I remember him from an episode of The Golden Girls and who can forget his turn as the racist man who George saves on The Jeffersons??

His time on ATWT was before I was born but it sure would be nice is there was a clip out there somewhere that could be uploaded to YouTube by someone.  CBS, remarkably produced a bunch of pristine clips of classic ATWT before the show was cancelled and I see some rare episodes from the 60s up there, so I hope one of him on this show can be found...somehow.

As a child, growing up in the NYC tri-state area, I also remember him as Mr. Pathmark.
