Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
In the NYC metro tri-state area, it is mandatory to wear masks in public spaces. I'm not sure whether you've seen this article but the comments about the "prevention paradox" and worries about a second wave of infection in regards to opening up from a lockdown are interesting. By the way, this man was one of the people who discovered, tracked and advised on the SARS pandemic, so he has a considerable range of knowledge on the matter. His insights on the possibility of having other coronaviruses that protect against COVID-19 is an intriguing one.

The Tennis Thread
Someone said the quote was not specifically about the relief fund but the notion in general that more prize money should be funneled down to lower ranked players, to which Thiem disagrees. Maybe others feel similarly but it's quite something that none of them felt the desire to say something publicly during what could be ongoing discussions about the matter. Perhaps those others elected to take up the matter directly with other players?

Was reading an article that mention the #PillowChallenge and did a brief search on social media and came across this, lol.

If Novak gets a reprieve from being derided with names like Novaxx, he may have Dominic Thiem to thank. Thiem is currently being dragged for some comments he made regarding the relief fund for lower ranked players.

Little Orphan Nikki is wearing that jumpsuit, lol! And Norman Bates, er, her fiance is beyond creepy but that scene was riveting, which is more than I can say for the current iteration of Y&R.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
It's not so much about getting "reinfected" as it is about reactivating the virus. Rather than assuming that someone who is no longer ill is totally virus-free, I think people should be looking at the possibility of having a virus go dormant or go into remission, the way an autoimmune disease might do. Of course, since COVID-19 has proved to be something of a 'moving target' with new symptoms and mutations being discovered on an almost daily basis, we should all just admit that no one yet has complete understanding of what we're dealing with. Don't give people false hope or false facts. As is the case with HIV, just show/educate people on how to determine their risk factor and how to protect themselves. Obviously there is no magic formula. This may not allay fears for a long time, but every town, city and municipality must begin with meticulous cleaning of public spaces on a schedule. Most public spaces that I've ever been in every country has been quite filthy. There are exceptions but they are usually that...exceptions. Touchless technology will need to become the norm. The act of pressing buttons on an ATM machine at a bank or supermarket checkout needs to become a thing of the past. Public restrooms need to retrofit so that all dispense with the need to touch anything. I've been to places like this but those were rare spaces. Theaters and stadiums that allow spectators may very well be among the last places to open. Hey, if you or someone you know are the last drive-in movie lot owners, then expect a windfall as this is probably a great time to own a drive-in movie theater! There is a study released out of Yale that saliva produces more accurate test results for coronavirus than nasal swabs. This may actually take some of the fear/reluctance out of testing. Like I said before, testing and knowing one's status is likely the key to curbing/lowering the spread. Let's all just hope that the next mutation will involved a much weaker, far less contagious, and less deadly coronavirus. COVID-19, in particular, needs to mutate into nothingness. A wish, I know.

One major difference is in the actual writing, which is just not there in today's iteration of Y&R. Storylines come and go, the consequences never last for long. Back in the day, there would be a lengthier build. In the case of Hilary's affair with Devon, you might have other complications like other people finding out and electing to keep it to themselves. Maybe Jack, after a meeting at HWG,overhears a spicy conversation Devon is having on the phone and discovers it is with Hilary. Later, Jack sits Hilary down and has a talk with her, urging her to stop sneaking around, reminding her how hurtful this would be to Neil. Recalling his own history with Jill and his father, he realizes he's in no position to judge but predicts certain disaster if this should all be revealed, especially if Neil finds out. Next, if Malcolm comes to GC for a visit and during a dinner party (maybe thrown in his honor), he picks up something going on between Hilary and Devon and then has his suspicions confirmed, later on when he catches the couple pulling out of an embrace. Malcolm confronts Devon who admits feelings but claims he and Hilary have never acted on them. Malcolm recalling his debacle in the past with Dru, advises Devon to either be honest with Neil or end the affair with Hilary. Malcolm even threatens to tell Neil himself if Devon doesn't step up. And it would build between Hilary and Devon each vowing to end it, confess, etc. yet fail to do either and ultimately the details of the affair begin to unravel and all is revealed. I feel like today's soaps are one and done and wash their hands of the story and move on.

Maybe I'll try to go and listen to this but the poor audio on the interviewer's end is a big turnoff for me. I literally turned it off when I heard her voice, which is a shame because I'm a fan of Scott Bryce and was looking forward to hearing this interview.

The Hits Keep Coming for the Retail Sector
Interesting how I noticed this today. Metropolitan Diary: Perfect fit Dear Diary: I was browsing in the men’s department at Neiman Marcus when a knitted black designer blazer caught my eye. Although the tag said it was on sale for a fraction of its original price, it still cost more than I would normally care to spend on such an item of clothing. Tempting fate, I tried it on. It fit me perfectly, of course. Just then, a saleswoman appeared in the aisle where I was standing. “It fits you perfectly,” she said. Possibly trying to talk myself out of buying it and probably in hopes of dissuading her from trying to sell it to me, I responded. “Yes,” I said, “but I really don’t need it.” “We don’t sell things that people need,” she replied without missing a beat. — Joe Caputo

I remember Taiwan is supplying three meals per day for their citizens but considering the large population of the state of California, it is a great undertaking to ensure that older residents will get three meals a day.

Yes, the United States is already in decline. Like many of us have been saying, this pandemic has exposed structural weaknesses that had been hiding in plain sight for decades. At least other countries no longer bother to look to America for any kind of leadership, the terrible mismanagement of the U.S. response to COVID-19 has put a stamp on that aspect. https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/sadness-and-disbelief-from-a-world-missing-u-s-leadership/- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Then again, what works for Ghana is unlikely to work in the U.S., even though Ghana is simply using drones to deliver testing to areas where access is a challenge. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/connecticut-town-reverses-course-on-pandemic-drones-amid-privacy-concerns/ar-BB136EDF- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread

Symbolic of the ultimate jumping the shark for this show. I've always said if I had the writer's pen, two characters that I would bring back are Bryant and Jennifer. If anything, I would've erased Danielle's infamous affair with Craig (which, thankfully I've never seen, only heard) and brought her back too. Written a proper breakup between Bryant and Jen that didn't involve that gross story with Craig and had Bryant transition to a friendship turned full-on love affair with Danielle (reminiscent of Craig and Sierra). I agree about Holryod being wasted and the worst version of Dusty that I've seen.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Also, so. much. this! They got rid of Holroyd just as Paul was starting to show traces of complexity. Then Holroyd gets dumped and we get Howarth's tomfoolery and clownery as Paul. Make no mistake, at least 70 percent of that foolishness was baked into the writing.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
This! And that has had lasting consequences on the genre. - The Politics Thread
