  1. Even when I use the Playlist feature for From The Beginning, some videos are out of order chronologically and I have to go back and click on the next video, in order.
  2. Yeah, that mugshot really caught me by surprise, especially since they used the real person. I don't think they were trying to malign her or anything, that's just the way it was, it was big news back then and it had a huge effect on the age eligibility rules going forward, so to somehow not mention it in a movie about young tennis phenoms would have been odd. Rick Macci was over the moon that he figured in the story in such a significant way.
  3. Well, count me in as someone who had no idea that Hensley sang. The men on the show didn't often sing as much or as often as the women did. There were a few exceptions, like Bob's duet with Kim at their wedding reception. This seemed to be in contrast with some other '80s soaps that had seemed to have their fair share of singers (Michael Damian, Rick Springfield, Jack Wagner).
  4. Many times in the past, I've criticized various tennis organizations but the WTA has really been standing by their convictions in this Peng Shuai situation, meanwhile the ATP is playing at the margins with anti-vaxxers and DV suspects as their standard bearers.
  5. This is available in theaters too, so maybe people might have been looking in the movie section? Will was good in this but I have to admit that for most of this movie I was always aware that it was Will Smith playing a role, but Aujanue Ellis who played Brandy/Oracene was fantastic! Maybe because of their youth and kids pick up things with more ease than adults but I found the two actresses who portrayed Venus and Serena pretty convincing as up and coming tennis players. This was probably the first tennis themed movie that I have seen, that starred non-tennis players who came across looking like actual tennis players onscreen. These types of movies usually get it wrong. Saniyya Sidney, who played Venus, is playing another iconic person, Sasha Obama in another film with Viola Davis. Talk about a terrific start to a career. The actress who played Serena, Demi Singleton looks just Serena did at that age. When I watched the Red Table Talk with Will Smith and the Williams women, Serena mentioned being in tears every time young Yetunde appeared onscreen and I couldn't help but think about the gangbanger who was stalking her, and IRL, years down the road it would be a gangbanger who took her life, when as an innocent bystander, she got caught in gun crossfire while a passenger in a car. People are talking about how Capriati and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario can't be too pleased with their portrayals but they stuck fairly close to facts. That real life mugshot of Capriati though.👀 And surely Sanchez Vicario is already aware that she has annoyed people at various times during her oncourt career. I am curious about whether McEnroe and Sampras saw the movie. Andy Roddick and his brother get a mention, although only the actor portraying his brother John was shown onscreen. Overall, I found the movie to be moving. The scenes of Venus' first professional match and the real life images and video during the final credits surprised me by how emotional they made me feel. I still think Smith's best dramatic role was as Ali but he did a good job and he was backed up by a talented cast and crew and the story was fairly well done. I don't remember ever hearing Venus pronounce Wimbledon with a "T" in real life though but I guess that was a bit of dramatic license at play.
  6. I'm not shocked, I never had the faith that it would go any other way. Honestly, I don't know what that says about me personally, but I never allowed myself to get invested in this trial because I have believed for years that this wouldn't stop at Trayvon Martin's murder, these self-appointed vigilantes would only become more brazen and eventually, it wouldn't be just Black and brown people who would be the victims of this violence. The law has been propping up these types for years, it was always going to happen that these violent types would extend themselves beyond the usual victims. Also, that jury make-up should've told you what you needed to know from the get-go.
  7. Caroline has a job but she's only a trainee who has been shown at her office less than a handful of times. Brooke keeps telling Dave that she wants to get her career started before marriage but so far, we have yet to see her at an actual job. Since it's already November 1987, maybe what you have described happens in '88?
  8. He raped four young women and the judge, who apparently prayed before handing down the sentence claimed that he felt that jail time would be "inappropriate".
  9. Sometimes, from the tone of these articles it seems as though Western media seems disappointed by this.
  10. Something that I just found out, at random. The reason why the actors who were on The Kids Of Degrassi Street who went on to Degrassi Junior High had different names was because...wait for it...they were asked whether they wanted to keep their character names or get new ones and all the kids said that they wanted new character names, (which, in effect, meant they'd be new characters). According to an interview with Neil Hope and Amanda Cook, Hope said he played a character called Griff on the previous series and when they decided to do Junior High, they asked him and he said he wanted a new character/name and so did all the kids! Such a monumental change to the show's history and subsequent legacy and such a simple reason behind it. I think this was possible because Hope and the other kids were part of a repertory, rather than an established cast/crew hierarchy like other shows which featured child actors. That was really progressive! Here is the clip. Those kids do not sound old enough to even be on the phone 🤣. I guess they must have had their parents' permission.
  11. The first 10-11 months and the only women we really see working consistently are Beth, Margo and Kristen, although we occasionally see Donna overworked and tired from her job as a waitress. So far, Caroline was seen at the office, two, maybe three times. It will be refreshing when the show actually remembers that Brooke has career ambitions, other than riding Ridge. And Thorne wants to buy Caroline a "wedding trousseau"? Oh how 19th century! They act like Caroline doesn't already come from wealth and can't already get these things from her Daddy. It's good that there is a disclaimer in the description under these videos that some of the content in these classic episodes might contain outdated cultural depictions. No kidding.
  12. Oh wow, how could I have forgotten about this telefilm?! So-called "Sorkinese" is a style unique to him (surprise, most talented writers can say the same) but it's hardly a technique, nor so I think that it should ever be emulated (because why?). From the movies of his that I have seen, I do think the Social Network is his best one, he understands the mentality of a Zuckerberg, and perhaps, on some level, may identify with him, based on some of his interviews. I'm not castigating him because of his privilege, but I do think he should own up to the fact that he has it. Throwing others who are lower on the hierarchy than he is just so disingenuous. I still maintain that the PBS Documentary is the best work out there about Ball and Arnaz. It also had the benefit of including interviews by the writers of I Love Lucy, while they were still alive. It was so well done.
  13. Years ago, when the WTA head honchos seemed determined to become tie the financial fortunes of the Tour to China, I found that super worrying, given their human rights history. One or two tournaments was one thing but tying nearly the entire Asian swing to one country was always going to be dicey at best.
  14. Call me skeptical but this statement doesn't quite do it for me.
  15. This is probably for the best. There is so much children's programming now, it could probably merit its own ceremony. Also, it was always a bit weird when they'd show a clip of Erica Kane slapping someone in the opening montage, then follow it up with Big Bird waving or something. 😂. Television is now so fragmented and specialized that it is now beginning to look like having a smorgasbord of programming in one show where every category can get equal attention no longer seems feasible.
  16. How convenient that the miscalculation occurred just in time for elections earlier this month.
  17. Although, those calling Badosa "Sharapova-lite" are likely using the term as a pejorative, unlike here, where Bouchard is most likely using the comparison in a complimentary way.
  18. I'm not sure about Berrettini's prospects for a career with few injuries, in any case, it seems like the ATP WTF are his personal bugaboo. Despite reaching the RG final, Stefanos has not had a very good year, if we were to compare it to previous years. I don't know if it's the result of this prolonged pandemic but the past two seasons have produced some indifferent results for me.
  19. Some people refer to Badosa as Sharapova-lite, lol.
  20. This is cool. McKenna Grace with most of the original cast members of Ghostbusters discussing the new movie.
  21. Despite the headline, the article states that consumers are spending more than they have in over a year (which, of course carries its own problems with supply not commensurate with demand causing inflation). Walmart, Home Depot and the rest of their ilk are certainly fairing well, certainly better than they were under the last guy in the White House and yet these companies' CEOs are the first ones running to open their checkbooks to the Republican party. Talk about cognitive dissonance. The strong hold of everlasting greed.
  22. Kristen, Daddy issues aside, is probably the one of the few, if the only major character from the show's first year, who holds up fairly well in the 21st century. The others...not so much, lol. But we are constantly told by other characters that Kristen is "a problem" because she is not hoe-ing it up all over town and actually wants to... surprise...nurture a career!😵
