In Loving Memory: Melinda Fee (Days, YR, GL)
I remember seeing a video she did about this ages ago. She was pretty adamant it was real. I mean MK Ultra was real and pretty horrific so who knows. RIP Melinda Fee.

Wow thanks for sharing that. I wonder if the character introductions were still the same when it aired. Jill in the second ep, Greg in the 7th. Pierre was Frenchy??? Okay What a kick if they had gotten Bette Davis, haha. Imagine if Bette Davis and Jeanne Cooper were ever in the same show. I would die Looking at all those titles I am glad they chose The Young and the Restless, just flows more I do think Y&R did have a bible, because in one of the posted interviews with Bill Bell he mentions being really proud of the bible he created for it. He went deep into the characters background up to the moment before they first appear on screen. @Taoboi That whole 1974 episode has been shared on here before. Here is @YRfan23 70's playlist (Hopefully it is okay to share this)

Yeah reading the 74 synopsis it seems Gwen and Jill had met before. From putting the bits together, Jill met Gwen at the salon. Gwen at that point worked at a brothel 'on the edge of town' she told Jill about her fabulous job but left out some pertinent details. Jill wanted in until she went to visit Gwen 'at work' and realised it was a brothel. There was another brief story in 76 where Jill went to work at a beauty parlour that was a brothel and Snapper realised and pulled her out of it.

Mark was still on the show, his last appearance was Jan 76. No mention of Regina, don't think she was around. Bruce left town around the same month Lance was first seen. But Lance was either never or rarely in Genoa City. Leslie and Lance would meet up, as he would attend her concerts in Europe. I don't think he visited Genoa City until maybe early 76. Could be wrong about that

Lance first appeared Oct 30, 1975. He was a fan of Leslie's. She would eventually introduce him to Lorie after the whole Mark story had ended.

Yeah I was quite surprised by it too. I am betting Janice was her usual outspoken self, haha. I can't imagine her keeping quiet about something like that

Look into the past - 1975
Here is a quick recap of the events from the time Kay and Derek married until Jill left the triangle Kay got Derek drunk and married him in order to stop him from marrying Jill in early 1978. Kay told him if he were to stay married to her for one year, and he still wanted a divorce, she would grant it to him and give Phillip his rightful inheritance and Derek his own Salon outright. But he couldn't tell Jill of the deal. Jill was so upset she decided she had to take what she needed in life to support herself and her son, too many times she had lost out in life. That is how she rationalised Stuart, which began just as Derek entered into his unholy alliance with Kay. Jill really felt she and Phillip needed Stuart more than Liz did. Kay wanted to keep Derek long after the year was up, so she decided that tracking down Derek's son Jaime would be the best way to give him the family he wanted, but when she found out from Jaime's mother, Suzanne, that he was in a mental institution, she backed off, worried Derek would leave her to go to his son and back to his wife. Suzanne figured out who Kay was and began blackmailing her and eventually moved into the house. Just as the year of marriage was about to come up, Jill and Stuart planned to marry after she lied that she was pregnant with his child. Derek asked Kay for the divorce and told Jill they could be together. Jill didn't trust Kay, so she told Derek to meet her at the chapel, where she would be marrying Stuart. If he turns up, they can be together, if he doesn't, she will marry Stuart. Kay and Suzanne worked together to keep Derek from Jill, eventually confessing Jaime was in a hospital. Derek was so distraught that they left to see him the night he was to see Jill. Derek returned to the news that Jill and Stuart were married. Stuart discovered Jill wasn't pregnant and demanded a divorce. At the same time, Derek was adamant about leaving Kay. Before Jill and Derek could reunite, Kay was shot by some thugs looking for Derek (can't remember the exact story) and Derek stayed with Kay out of guilt when it seemed Kay would be confined to a wheelchair. She recovered but kept this from Derek, at the same time Kay demanded Suzanne leave, but Suzanne discovered Kay was faking her paralyses and continued to blackmail her. Kay, tired of Suzanne, eventually confessed everyting to Derek. He immediately rushed to Jill, but after having saved Stuart's life when he almost died, Jill decided to give her marriage a chance and rejected him. Suzanne realised she had to keep her meal ticket. She slowly began poisioning Kay with her favourite chocolates. Kay lost her mind and was sent to a mental institution. Suzanne kept giving her the chocolates and making plans with Derek. Kay befriended a woman in the hospital (I think someone she knew as a child???) and either gave her some jewlery or the woman stole it. Then the woman started a fire after eating Kay's chocolates and going over the edge, she was badly burned to death. Kay managed to escape the hospital and the woman was identified as Kay. Kay hid out at Liz's place, she eventually told Brock she was alive. Derek mourned Kay's death, and Jill, now on the outs with Stuart, who still wanted a divorce, attempted a reconciliation with Derek, but he found her behaviour detestable and rejected her. Meanwhile Suzanne began manipulating Derek's fragile psyche and talked him into leaving for Europe with her. To stop this, Kay started gaslighting Suzanne. Kay appreciated Liz's help in hiding her out, to return the favour she decided to extracate Jill from Stuart's life. Jill was demanding a large cash settlement in exchange for a divorce. Stuart refused, but was slowly giving in. Meanwhile, Brock and Lorie conspired to reunite Derek and Jill. Jill headged her bets by keeping her reconciliation with Derek a secret from Stuart, he agreed to pay her the settlement and she signed the divorce papers. Lorie then told Stuart that Jill and Derek were reunited and he stopped the cheque and told Jill she won't get a thing from him now that she and Derek have resumed their romance. Jill was sure her mother was behind it all and raged at her to stay out of her life. She then cut her losses and married Derek. On their honeymoon night, Kay revealed to the newlyweds she was alive. Jill was stunned and screamed at Kay for ruining her life yet again. Derek managed to convince Kay he grieved for her death and really loved her. Jill blamed her mother yet again. Derek and Jill continued to see each other, she wanted to forget their scheme to have Derek take everything he could from Kay, but by this point Derek had grown accustomed to the lifestyle Kay could give him and begged Jill to hang on a little longer. Brock, suspicious that Derek and Jill were having an affair, had them followed by a P.I who took photos and recorded audio of them together. He gave it all to Kay. Kay confronted Derek but said she trusted him and wouldn't listen to the tape. She went back on her word and held a listening party, but Derek had hired cat burglar Douglas Austin to swipe the tape and replace it with one he had made professing his love for Kay and rejecting Jill. Eventually Jill grew tired of waiting for Derek and after a few parting shots at Kay, she moved on with her life.

It seems by the August episode that is online, that Lorie was back more in Leslie's orbit while Jill was battling Kay in court. It would have been great if Lorie was supportive of Jill's fight against Kay. Surely everyone in town had heard that Kay drove Phillip off a cliff. If Lorie doesn't at least console Jill or have it out with Kay, then it will baffle me. Lorie, even then, sounds like she wears her emotions on her sleeve. She seems quite fragile in those days. It would be almost neccessary to have her lash out at Kay over Phillip's death, at least once. Then move on, but it seems that isn't going to happen. I assume, by the sounds of it, that the most we get is a scene with Brock and Lorie. Bell seemed determine to keep Kay and Lorie from having any real scenes together. Jill and Lorie also seem to have had few scenes over the years, despite the connection to Phillip and Stuart.

Jill/Katherine/Phillip must have been almost the entire show in June. I can only imagine seeing those episodes. They must have been on almost every day or possibly every day. As I was reading I thought, oh June will end with them going over the cliff, but it just kept going. Agree the story sounds intense. Jill coming in to Phillip's hospital room and seeing an empty bed, how sad, I can see why long time viewers were always on Jill's side, Bell certainly made her suffer. Plus having Lorie attached to the story to the end. I so wish Jill and Lorie had connected more about Phillip's death. I do wonder if there were any scenes between them.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Thanks for tha info. You always have such well researched information. I was confused as Bell stated in an interview that he had nothing to do with the show once he left in 75 and the title "story consultant" was in name only. So it was a surprise to see that he had scripts from that period and I guess he was more involved than he stated.

They have a scene with her in 1976. When Jill decides to keep Phillip and Kay threatens legal action. Snapper and Greg head to Mrs. Chancellor's place and have it out with her. Greg tells her she doesn't have a leg to stand on and will probably face criminal charges for trying to buy a baby. Kay calls her attorney who confirms this. As this was taking place some people from the Senior Citizen's Group were moving in. Kay had given them the house (unofficially at this point) as she planned to move to Europe with Phillip. But when she finds she can't take the baby she throws them all out and tells them to blame Snapper and Greg. Greg represents Jill in her paternity suit against the Chancellor estate shortly after. He might have cross examined Kay on the witness stand if she testified. He may have been Jill's lawyer in the property settlement suit in 1975 as well, not sure. Other than that I don't think either character had much to do with her. Maybe they shared some scenes, but it seems none of any real signifigance. I assume Kay might have visited the Foster home with Greg or Snapper there. Not sure about the plastic surgery storyline or episode Liz and Bill re-married in 1976 after Phillip had died. I am pretty sure Kay was so upset at losing Bill to Liz that she sent a present but did not attend. Though I do believe Jen and Stu were there.

Derek was first introduced in 1976 but the story was scrapped after a couple months. Then Joe LaDue came on 77 - 81, but Jill had exited that triangle in early 1980. By May 80 she was already working at Jabot. Derek last appeared in 1984 at Victor and Nikki's wedding, though very briefly and I am not sure he was ever mentioned again, other than Kay referring to Thurston as one of her married names. Not sure why they never argued about him, would have been cool to have his name brought up in their fights. Bell seemed to just act sometimes like certain characters never existed.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I would assume the scripts would be behind in terms of correcting pre-emptions, maybe even scheduled ones sometimes. The NCAA Tournament did pre-empt Y&R and B&B Mar 14 & 15 1991. There were 10 pre-emptions for Y&R that year and it seems there were 13 for B&B. Jan 17 I believe was the first official day of the Gulf War or something like that. So you would have at least Jan 1, 17, Mar 14, 15 in the first 4 months. Maybe there were three others in April that didn't affect Y&R

I suspect you are probably right about that. Jon-Michael Reed did report Jeanne was apparently due to be axed when Kay jumped over board from a cruise ship in September 1980. But fan response to her character changed minds about it. Jeanne also reported in a 1981 interview that after Derek and Douglas were shipped off, she spent 6 weeks off screen. Yes I just saw an article that mentioned Mark and Russell. I also found the below article from the Los Angeles Times May 2, 1973, which seems to confirm Bruce's arrival most likely happened in May/Jun when Liz may have had her cancer scare. I assume the Jennifer/Bruce connection began on the show here too. As Bryna Laub has synopsis in early 74 that states Bruce hopes Jennifer can stay in Chicago longer as she did last summer. I suspect also that Jennifer and Bruce met up in the Autumn/Fall of 73 too when Leslie was on tour.

On Jason47's site he has other credits for Bill Bell Story By - May 7, 1975 - Aug 1977 Story Consultant - Aug 1977 - Apr 13, 1978 This covers all the scripts donated. I assume once he became story consultant, he wasn't doing much of anything on the show. The story by credit suggests he was a lot more involved during that period.

Not sure, I get the feeling she was Mrs. Chancellor to almost everyone but someone on her status level or a romantic partner. So maybe Derek called her Kay and I would suggest Bill Foster would have, I think she would have insisted, she was trying to build a romance with him. I think Lorie would have referred to her as Mrs Chancellor or old lady Chancellor or Mrs C. but I doubt she used Kay or Katherine. I don't know why, but it seems odd she would call her Kay. I think once Jill was married to John she sometimes called her Kay, sometimes Mrs. Chancellor. Once the divorce proceedings began and especially after they ended, I think Jill only called her Kay or Katherine.

The Young and the Restless Writer's Thread/Index
Bell stated in interviews that he handed over writing duties more and more and stepped back from the show as the years went on. I'd suggest even before B&B, after Y&R had regained its own momentum, Bell pulled back more, and maybe that's why he felt he could do B&B (or Rags as it was to be known). I have an article from 1987 that states Bell and Lee Phillip rented a hotel room in Dec 1985 and began putting ideas together for the new show. By this point Y&R was on much more solid footing, and would begin hitting #1 again periodically. I do think he turned over the heavy lifting to Alden and Smith. Alden is credited as a Head Writer in newspaper interviews as early as 1980 (I assume Associate Head Writer) and every interview/article on her from that point on refers to her as a Head Writer of the show. Bell once said Alden's scripts are so similar to his in style and structure that he could barely tell the difference between one of his and one of hers. I'd suggest possibly from 1980 (just a guess) he may have stopped writing the show and focused on outlines only, which was why he promoted Alden. Bell hated the 1 hr format and didn't want to write a 1 hr show. Makes sense he would hand it off more to Alden, since she was a clone in terms of scripting.

I know. I think they must have known each other quite well at least through Irna I also want to know why there are Days scripts post 75 up to 78. I know he was a story consultant, but he claimed that was in name only and once he left he was gone and had no further interaction with the show. There was a letter published in some Days history book from 1976 or 1977 with Bell telling Pat Falken Smith how Julie should be after her marriage to Doug. Though Bell said he had nothing to do with Pat's tenure on the show. There are many questions I really want to know if he stopped writing Y&R Oct 24, 1997 - the archive just may not have his remaining scripts, but it seems odd as they have everything it seems
