  2. She is defintely there post 1984 as she is credited 10 times in the 1986 end credits. Pretty sure I saw a 1985 one as well. Also pretty sure she was one of the few credited in 1988 with Eric L. Roberts
  3. Yeah could be error, or he may have just had a few notes and not much else. Agnes may have asked his advice and it was nothing more than a few dot points
  4. In the Y&R old articles thread someone (sorry I forget who) put up screen shots of credits showing Bell's name as HW for Jul 3 1998 and gone the next episode Jul 6 1998 The script collection I posted shows scripts to Oct 24, 1997. So Maybe that is when Kay became co-head writer or maybe they just don't have his last few months of scripts As Ep I thought he held the title until he passed in 2005, but his illness was such that I doubt he was doing much with the show in the last few years of his life
  5. I forgot to add this. Here is a script collection given to Online Archive if California. Has Bell's scripts for shows he worked on with episode numbers and air dates. Does not say if he wrote all scripts. I say this because they have scripts for the show up to 1978. Maybe Bell was more involved with the show post 1975. He stated he was very much gone before the show hit 1 hour, but why would he have scripts after this time. I think he really may have been consulting and has down played his involvement http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf
  6. Yeah I was surprised by this too. Maybe Agnes and Bell worked on ideas for the show originally. Maybe before she did OLTL. I know he and Irna also helped a bit with Days as well.
  7. I found this online resource for Bill Bell's script collection with episode numbers and air dates. Good resource. Most interesting is the fact he has scripts to Nov 1995 and again from Jul 96 - Aug 97. They don't say if he wrote all these. Maybe he just had them in his collection due to being a producer of the show or maybe he was writing the show through that period. Not sure, but enjoy if you like getting episode counts and air dates http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf
  8. I found this archive for Bill Bell's script collection. Lists Another World with script numbers and air dates. As well as other shows he worked on http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf
  9. Hey I found this Online Archive listing for Bill Bell. It has scripts for ATWT turns with episode numbers and dates as well as the other shows he did http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf
  10. I found this recently. It is a list of scripts Bell donated to the Online Archive of California. http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf Does not say if they have a complete collection or if Bell wrote all scripts they have, but it does have episode numbers and dates. Most interesting is the scripts for Y&R stop on Oct 24, 1997 (Did Kay take over and Bell was there in name only and as a Exec Prod???) I will post this in the B&B/AW/ATWT threads too. Also interesting that he had ideas for All My Children as well and lists other shows he had ideas/notes for From this I have gathered the following episode numbers for the first 10 years 1973 - #1 - #186 (15 pre-emptions) May 17 - Watergate Hearings Opening Day May 18 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) May 22 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) May 23 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) May 24 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jun 6 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jun 13 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jun 27 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 12 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 17 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 20 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 25 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 30 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Sep 25 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Nov 22 - NFL Football (Washington - Detroit) / College Football (Air Force - Notre Dame) 1974 - #187 - #439 (8 pre-emptions) Jan 1 - 85th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Texas - Nebraska) Mar 15 - Nixon State of the Union Addresss (Unconfirmed) Jul 4 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 5 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 9 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 10 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Jul 15 - Watergate Hearings (Unconfirmed) Nov 28 - CBS SPECIAL: CBS Festival of Lively Arts for Young People / NFL Football: Washington - Dallas 1975 - #440 - #696 (4 pre-emptions) Jan 1 - 86th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Penn State - Baylor) Jul 17 - US/USSR Space Flight Mission (Unconfirmed) Nov 27 - NFL (RAMS - LIONS) Dec 26 - Sun Bowl (Pittsburgh - Kansas) 1976 - #697 - #954 (4 pre-emptions) Jan 1 - 87th Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Arkansas - Georgia) Aug 16 - Republican National Convention Nov 25 - Local Programming / Pro Basketball (Bullets - Suns) 4th Pre-emption sometime between Oct - Dec 1977 - #955 - #1211 (3 pre-emptions) Jan 20 - Jimmy Carter Presidential Inauguration Sep 5 - US Open Nov 24 - NFL Pre-Game Show / NFL Pro Football (Bears - Lions) 1978 - #1212 - #1467 (4 Pre-emptions) Jan 2 - 89th Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Notre Dame - Texas) Sep 4 - US Open Nov 23 - Famous Classic Tales (Journey to the Centre of the Earth) / CBS Sports Spectacular Dec 25 - Peach Bowl (West Coast only) so may be another date for East Coast 1979 - #1468 - #1725 ( 3 Pre-emptions) Jan 1 - 90th Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Houston - Notre Dame) Nov 22 - NFL Today / NFL Football (Bears - Lions) Dec 25 - LOCAL PROGRAM / Pro Basketball (76er's - Bullets) 1980 - #1726 - #1982 (5 Pre-emptions) Jan 1 - 91st Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Nebraska - Houston) There was another prior to Mar 4 Sep 1st - US Open Nov 27 - NFL Today / NFL Football (Bears - Lions) Dec 25 - LOCAL PROGRAM / Pro Basketball (Celtics - Nicks) 1981 - #1983 - #2235 (8 Pre-Emptions) Jan 1 - 92nd Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Baylor - Alabama) Jan 20 - Reagan Presidential Inauguration Another prior to Mar 3 but not sure Apr 14 - Columbia Space Shuttle Landing (Unconfirmed) Sep 7 - US Open Oct 6 - Anwar Sadat Assasination (Unconfirmed) Nov 26 - LOCAL PROGRAM (Varied on each coast) Dec 25 - LOCAL PROGRAM / College Football (Blue - Grey) 1982 - #2236 - #2491 (5 Pre-Emptions) Jan 1 - 93rd Tournament of Roses Parade / Cotton Bowl (Alabama - Texas) Sep 6 - US Open Sep 10 - US Open Nov 25 - NFL Today / NFL Football (Giants - Lions) Nov 26 - LOCAL PROGRAM
  11. The first credit I could find for Linda was 1989 Jim Inman and Mark Waxman are also listed as writers in an August 1980 article I found, though I have since misplaced it. They don't seem to be there by 1982, so I wonder if they were just there when the show went to an hour and left by 81 or 82 Eric L. Roberts came on board somewhere between 80 - 82 Meg Bennett came on in June 1983, she was to replace Kay Alden who was going on maternity leave (Not replace her in her associate head writing role, but just as a script writer) Meg was also a dialogue writer ETA: She stated she had written an episode of 'Search for Tomorrow' that I think never got produced, she showed that to Bell who took her on board. Jack Smith said he started in 1979, maybe he replaced Elizabeth H. An interview with Kay Alden from 1979 said there was only one other writer on the show besides herself and Bell and they were in California. No name is mentioned but probably was JS. At some point before 1988 Smith became an associate Head Writer Sally Sussman came on in 1983 as a story consultant and eventual script writer. She left by December 1987 Enid L. Powell came on around 1985 John Randall Holland (Randy Holland) came on as a writer in either 1983 or 1984 Since we have the German eps for 1986. Here is a tally of writers and the actual credited episodes Eric L. Roberts 19 John Randall Holland (Randy Holland) 15 Meg Bennett 11 Enid L. Powell 10 Sally Sussman was listed on every credits list available for 1986. I assume she was a senior writer on the show at this point. There was a big shift in 1989 listed writers for that year (that have not been mentioned) include Rex M. Best Thomas D. Walker Jerry Birn William J. Asher This seems to be most or all of the writers for the show in the 80's that I know of This one is confusing as IMDB lists Eric Friewald as Eric L. Roberts, but there are two pages for him. I guess he changed his last name?????? I also found this. It is a list of all scripts Bell gave to Online archive of California. It lists episode numbers and airdates or production dates. Some errors but very minor and is a good resource for episode numbers. They all add up. Worth saving this too. Most interesting is the scripts stop on Oct 24, 1997 for Y&R. Is it possible Bell stopped writing the show then and Kay actually took over, but they kept Bell's name on the show, maybe so he would be there through the 25th Anniversary? Also there are scripts for B&B that go through Nov 95 and then for a year between Jul 96 - Aug 97. It does not say if all these scripts were written by Bell or if they have a complete collection http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf
  12. This was also when the Watergate hearings were being televised. Y&R lost something like 3 weeks worth between May to July, roughly. So that may have allowed him time to catch up. He has said he would write 7 weeks in advance (approx) Maybe back then he was a little further in front, since the show was new. Bell has always said he mostly wrote the show by himself in the very beginning. However I figured someone else was probably doing some script work. I doubt he was 100% going it alone, especially since he was still at Days during this time as well. If he did write the show with someone else and they were not in the union, maybe he had "chats" with them about the show, during the strike, haha. Bell wrote ATWT with Irna didn't he? maybe the producer part was misquoted and they were referring to Bell from his time at that show. Maybe not
  13. Not 100% sure, but I have seen her listed as having been on Y&R from 1977 to roughly late 78 or very early 79, when she left to become head writer of Days. She then returned by 1980 and stayed until about 1984.
  14. Thanks for the confirmation on Phillip's death. Have been wondering for ages when it actually happened.
  15. I was thinking the same, he's pretty cute in that photo
  16. Could it have been in 2000? His wiki says it and his name moved up in the writing credits on the show at that time as seen below. First is from Oct 99, second is Oct 00. I can't find any official confirmation though. Maybe he was an associate head writer. Not sure
  17. It can't really have gone much further. Phillip has to find out Jill is pregnant soon because he dies mid July from what I understand. From the Aug 22, 1975 episode online, the court case to contest the divorce is already over and the ruling is due "the next day".
  18. Yeah Peggy doesn't really get story until Jack Curtis turns up in late 75. Her major story was the marriage to Jack in 1976 and the rape story with Ron Becker (though that was mostly Chris' story) Pam Peters left the show around Sep 77, just as Jennifer passes away and she didn't return until 1980. Though Pat Everly played the character briefly in 1979.
  19. Someone in this thread (sorry I can't find the post) suggested that maybe Kay was to be killed off. So I wonder if Bell initially planned for it to be a Lorie/Phillip/Jill and maybe Brock quad. However I just found someone selling a cast photo and letter from Columbia Television. They had written to the show as a teen about Phillip being killed off and the response they got was that Phillip's death had been planned well in advance. So maybe Lorie just had no real story and Bell wanted to utilise JLB somehow. Liz's last name is still Foster because she was still married to Bill Foster. The Henderson's were not really on that much it seems. Maybe Bruce and Ma Henderson (Bruce and Liz's mother) turned up when Liz had her cancer scare. Not sure to be honest. In the autumn of 1973, Leslie goes on tour for the first time with a symphony and Jennifer goes with her, which is presumably when she reunites with Bruce. Was this his introduction? or had he been there earlier? Not sure. Mark was there from around late 74 or early 75 and Regina seems to have only been around for a few months at most in 1975. She is never mentioned once Soap Digest begin their synopsis from October 1975. Mark's big story was being half brother to Lorie but the pair had no idea and almost married. Bell really liked his incest stories. I remember reading a soap mag with an interview with Trish Stewart who thought it odd that the Brooks girls were so close to Stuart and went to him with all their issues, as she stated she was much closer to her mother and figured most women would confide in their mother's about their lives. I do like that Peggy is affected by what is going on, many soaps ignore this with younger kids, who see and hear a lot, but rarely act out. Another reason I liked Heather Thom's Victoria. It made sense she was the way she was when she returned. In terms of John, I always felt he saw Ashley as an equal, loved her head strong attitude and no nonsense approach, especially with Jack. Traci was so fragile that I think John always saw her as his little girl, but he seemed so proud when she returned from Stamford and took more control of her life, and told Jack to butt out of her life, haha
  20. There was a cast list from a Who's Who Daytime TV magazine from 1973 that had Bruce Henderson as a cast member, he was played by Robert Clarke and Daily TV Serials from 1974 mentions Jennifer reuniting with Bruce, who is Liz's brother, in Chicago in their recap for the first year of the show. They also list Robert Clarke but as Stuart Henderson, not Bruce. Jennifer and Leslie also travel to Chicago in Feb 1974 and Jennifer meets up with Bruce again (as stated in Bryna Laub's daytime serial newsletter for that month) Whether or not the cancer story happened (they mention Liz had an operation) and Bruce and Ma Henderson turned up in Genoa City or not, I am not sure. But Bruce was on the show in 1973 and was stated to be Liz's brother.
  21. Same. I think it is mentioned for the first years summary and never again. He apparently came to town when Liz had cancer (uterine cancer, I think) along with their mother. There doesn't seem to have been any cross over between Bruce and Liz post 1973. What is interesting is that the Henderson's were supposed to be "the other family" in town initially. Bruce, Regina and Mark were all mentioned in press from the week the show debuted. I am also curious if Regina is Mark's mother. Jodean Lawrence or Russo as she was known then and Steve Carlson are only ten years apart, though in film and tv that doesn't always mean anything
  22. The first articles I could find were from May 1998. Since his last credit was July and they used to write around 7 weeks ahead of episodes airing, the announcement seems to have been made around the week he stopped writing for the show. This article is from the New York Daily News May 22, 1998 Yeah I have articles listing Kay Alden as head writer as far back as 1980. I have to wonder if that was when she became an associate head writer As for her taking over in 1997. I have been searching far and wide, but there doesn't seem to have been any official announcement. At least not one I can find. I do wonder if the press didn't even know it had happened until later. The first mention I could find of Kay having become a co-head writer in 1997, was from an article from I think 1998. Though I seem to have lost that too.
  23. Oh wow, so Phillip asked Kay for a divorce before Jill even knew she was pregnant. I always thought it was after. Lorie also seems to have played more of a part in the story than I thought too. And the elusive Regina Henderson. I could never figure out when she appeared on the show or what her storyline was. She seems to have been there for a split second. Glad to finally have sold that mystery @FrenchFan Thanks again for sharing these. Fills in a lot of missing info
  24. I've been trying to find that too. Unfortunately many of the articles I have found state Kay became a co-head writer in 1988???? Actually I just found an article with Jack Smith from 1988 stating he and Kay are co-head writers, no mention of Bill Bell at all. I know they became associate head writers, maybe the terminology is confused. He mentions this on the second page
  25. Oh right didn't know that. I wonder if they were going to try to get Tom Hallick to be the truck driver, since Brad was driven into Genoa City in a truck in the very first scene
