Yeah true. Almost around the time Josh Morrow came on board. This was around the time the Jack Vietnam Vet story was getting under way, which I thought was better suited to John and not Jack, just seemed ridiculous to suggest Jack ever served in Vietnam, his whole character to that point was classic silver spoon. Also the Rick/Blade story which I was not a fan of, even though I liked the actors in the story, Brenda Epperson nailed that whole storyline as Ashley.

Yeah and very rare, don't remember seeing too many photos of Deborah from the first couple of years she was on the show, apart from Soap Digest photos from scenes of the show they would run with the synopsis

Speaking of Terry Lester and Deborah Adair. Here is a rare photo of them and Lilibet Stern during the Jill/Jack/Patty triangle which played out during 1981

I wasn't fond of 1995 - 1997 to be honest. Still better than what came later, and late 97 until Bell's retirement was far better and I really like 98- 99 On another note - I am also confused with the Dru story, I just watched an episode from 1994 or 1995 where Olivia tells another doctor that Dru is suffering from a condition that would make having another baby 100% impossible. Did she get magically cured or something?

As YRFan23 said it started more in summer 1980. Though from reading synopsis, it seems to have been a bit of a non starter. When Brett Halsey was fired in Mar 1981, Jon-Michael Reed suggested it was because he was such a dud in the role and best I can tell the story was given very little airtime until the resolution at the beginning of 1981. After John caught Jill and Jack in bed he left town and the remainder of 1981 was Jill and Jack, then towards the end of the year Jill and Andy. So depending on who is in this episode, we might get Terry Lester, we might actually see Deborah's Jill with Andy as well.

They did live to tape back then. So pretty much taped the show as if it were live, but they could still stop for any big mistakes

Pretty sure Vanessa jumped in November 81. Either way this is exciting. Even with edits, it will be amazing to see This is from the month before, September 1981 Yeah I just looked and pretty sure it is the week of Nov 2 - 6 1981. This is the week prior to Vanessa killing herself

Yeah but this was long before Billy and Victoria were ever together. They were not even in the same stories initially and I am almost sure they never had any scenes together or at least no significant ones. It was Billy and Mac for the most part during David Thom's run on the show.

I have always wondered about that. She states Melody just stopped talking to her one day and then suddenly just started up again like it was nothing, I am certain she also implied it was during the same time Kay and Nikki stopped sharing scenes together during the 80's and I wonder if it had to do with JC's drinking issue. I can imagine MTS having a low tolerance for it, even if Jeanne was functioning and doing no harm to anyone but herself.

It must have happened off screen, though pretty sure Sven was talking about the massage and not the more sexual nature Sven was going for, prior to this she was pretty clear with him that she had no interest in him that way as she and Michael were devloping a romance at that point. He had been trying for a while to get with her, but the only scenes we saw were him giving her a massage. But maybe there was an implication there that something had happened off screen

I think Traci should have been about 20ish by this time. Pretty sure she was already going to University and in 1987 she finished her final year Ashley was torn here and there, especially when Nikki told Ashley about the Wicked Witch Ashley and Victoria asked her not to take her daddy away Faren is Andy's girlfriend and the bald guy is Jazz Jackson. Tyrone's brother who is in the blazer, the other guy is Nathan, better known as Olivia's husband, haha- Y&R: Old Articles
The big issue with having Liz around between 1986 - 1989 is Phillip. That whole storyline couldn't happen, because Phillip would have simply lived with his Grandmother, rendering Kay obsolete in the story. Not bringing her back in 1989 when Phillip died was wrong. Liz could have returned on a recurring basis at that point. I also thought it odd that Liz had to leave town, even though her daughter had almost been murdered. But again the fight for Phillip story was getting started. Also I think Bell wanted to isolate Jill during her divorce, Michael was her only ally, and I think that was on purpose. That's why Liz took off just before John found out about the affair.- Y&R to air classic episodes
Looking at the 1991 episode, I was amazed at just how beautiful it looked. This really never came across anywhere near as well in the oirginal airing and makes me want to see more, haha. It also got me thinking........ Do you think Sony has digitized all episodes of Y&R or they only did this for the episodes they planned to re-broadcast? The lockdown happened pretty quickly, all things considered, and they managed to get these newly edited and digital broadcasts going pretty quickly, so I wonder if Sony has already archived all the eps to a digital format. I know production companies often scan and archive material regardless of whether or not it is going to see the light of day. So was curious about this. I assume if someone had to edit these down for re-broadcast and possibly worked remotely, then all episodes might be digitally archived.- Y&R: Old Articles
Deborah, especially, had to go through the rough 80 - 82 period too and continued to keep Jill in the mix when she could have been scrapped like so many others. In fact just before Deborah left she had negotiated a big contract with a promise for some juicy storylines. They all seemed to go to Brenda though.- Y&R: Old Articles
He started Jan/Feb 1987. He was really just Jill's assistant, doing her bidding. Then he made a move on her, but it didn't go well. I think they did date for a bit before she tried to get back together with Michael Crawford. That was when David began working for Jack to try to oust Jill from Jabot by spying for him.- Y&R: Old Articles

Yeah I never saved the version with Deborah in it. From the story bits and pieces I have, I think Brenda was out sick with a real medical issue, but due to previous dramas Bell and others thought she was grandstanding and replaced her with Jess, this may have been where the story from E! True Hollywood story came from, that Brenda turned up for work one day to find another actress in her dressing room. Though they show a picture of Deborah in reference to the story, I wonder if it actually happened when Jess came on. Hence why they kept announcing Jess until Brenda was officially fired. Brenda had lost most of the subtlety to her performance by around the time or just after Who Shot Jill? played out. She always had some high melodrama in her performance, but it was much more grounded in 83/84. Once Jill was kicked out of the Abbott home, Brenda really let loose. I still like her through most of 1986 though. Jess brought the grounded aspect back and balanced it with some of Brenda's camp. I really liked Jess until the late 90's, when Jill just seemed like a gumpus all the time. Brenda, no matter how flawed her performances were, was the only Jill to carry the history of the character with her. You could feel her hatred of Katherine and still see sometimes the young girl she was at the beginning of the show. If Brenda had toned it down more instead of going full camp, she would be the only Jill for me.- Y&R: Old Articles

@allmc2008 Here is the video. I put this together quickly using the few clips I have found online over the years. I am pretty sure Jess subbed the day Jill went to Kay's and argued with Phillip about his birthday, as Brenda's Jill mentions at the beginning Here is an article about Brenda's departure and Jess' arrival- Y&R: Old Articles

Jess actually got announced several times in her first week. Her first appearance was in the white suit at the Jabot office, they announce her again when she turns up to Kay's for Phillip's birthday and again in this clip above. She also had temped for Brenda the Friday before her first week. I have it somewhere "I hope he needs the money, who else on God's green earth would take this assignment" I guess this was, at the very least, one of Brenda's last lines on the show since it got repeated the next day. I'll see if I can find it and post it. I remember this, it was online many years ago. She has shoulder length hair. John visits her in her hotel suite, I think due to Jill's testimony in Jack's case or something like that. John comes over to thank her.- Y&R to air classic episodes
True, I felt like Brenda really always carried the history of Jill with her in almost every scene. I would even be happy if they just put up all the 30min episodes from 73 - 80. Though would love 73 - 94, my absolute favourite period, even with the less than stellar 80 - 82 era- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Thanks, yeah I wasn't sure, but I definitely will keep pushing the issue.
