  1. I don't get the trend to try to look ageless or go back 30 plus years. Just do the old fashioned thing and look well rested and maybe 5 - 10 years younger at most or just really healthy for your age. I think if I ever had any work done, I would simply try to look good for my age rather than 20 again
  2. I guess in life people do cut off their nose to spite their face. I think Brad always felt like an outsider despite John, Ash and Traci accepting him. He was a loner and it did feed into Jack's idea that he was an opportunist. And it is this psychology that Bell always wrote into his characters that I loved so much. I could analyse all his characters and their motivations forever.
  3. Yeah true. Even with Stephanie, to me she seemed co-dependant and leaning on Ridge for what she wished she had with Eric. I assume Vanessa was clinging to Lance in the same way. Both very controlling and a little too involved in their sons lives but not romantically interested. Though this behaviour allowed for the accusations to fly, and an audience could see why someone would think that, even if it wasn't entirely the case. Which is why I love Bell's writing. He often left certain things open. 80's Brad and his feelings for Traci is a good example too. To this day I can never be quite sure how he really felt about her. I get he loved her, but was he ever really in love with her. Bell was brilliant at leaving you guessing about motivations.
  4. I was actually just looking at this. It was around Sep 1978, though she doesn't tell anyone and continues to wear the veil. Lorie begins to suspect she had the surgery and calls her doctor who confirms it. Lorie is about to tell Lance everything until Vanessa whips her veil off and reveals she had the surgery done.
  5. SOD was a little more behind, so the summer stuff was roughly the Sep - Nov 1977 issues. Unlike normal issues which are four pages, those issues are two pages long, at least for Y&R, and they skip a lot of stuff from this period. It goes back to 4 pages again with the Dec 77 issue which is roughly Sep 77.
  6. Jack got a job offer out of town and wanted Joann to go with him as his wife. When he graduated she told him she couldn't re-marry him as she needed to find herself. He isn't mentioned again, so I assume he left for the job, though it seems his graduation in early to mid June was the last we saw of him. I have never been able to find who played Mr and Mrs Conway only Tom and Jody. I didn't even know Jody had a sister who appeared.
  7. Yeah I think she pops up out of nowhere a year later or something. I assume once Pam Peters Solow quit the show, Bell had nowhere to go with Jack and Jo. Maybe Anthony Hererra wanted out and Kay Herble agreed to stay as an almost guest star until her contract was up.
  8. @FrenchFan Thanks again for another update Y&R - I actually can't wait for Brad to leave town. I think at this point he really has become a drip, lol. I assume Bell was setting the scene for Tom Hallick's departure, though I am curious if Tom had given a lot of notice before leaving. Brad is just such a sad sack and I'm glad Leslie isn't moping about all day long. She's angry at him and rightfully so. Vanessa and her oedipal complex, haha. I wonder how romantic the dancing fantasy came across. Leslie, Lorie and Chris are so separated and the Brooks family is definitely being torn apart at this point. I also didn't realise the Becker story was put on hold so much. Though Bell (and maybe other soap writers) seem to write the bigger stories for the ratings period (Sep - Apr back then) There is still a lot going on in the summer, but either on going stories are cooling a bit and upcoming ones are slowly taking shape while Bell has his minor summer stories going as well. Also I didn't realise Joann stuck around this long. I thought she took off the same time Jack did. Soap Digest has barely any synopsis for the summer of 77, so I am grateful for all of these. Fills in a lot of information.
  9. Thank you for that. It is a great resource, though it does raise more questions, haha. Still very appreciated, thank you
  10. Amazing info. So Shaw was probably there roughly Mar/Apr 67 to Jun 69 I wonder how long the Pollock's were there and if the Shaprio's started in 1970 and not 1969. Maybe they started very late 69, like December
  11. I totally forgot Trish Stewart was married to Mike for a time
  12. H everyone. I have some details to share for Search that you may find interesting. Not sure if these have been shared before so my apologies if so The 4,940th episode of SFT aired Sep 03, 1970. If there were no pre-emptions and if the show wasn't pre-empted Thanksgiving day then the 5,000th would have aired Nov 26, 1970 The 6,000th aired Oct 31, 1974 The 7,000th aired Sep 12, 1978 The 8,000th aired Aug 16, 1982 I also located some HW info based on newspaper articles and script archive catalogue's for the writers. Irving Vendig's scripts start Sep 03, 1951 and end Nov 26, 1956 I found a writer named Milton Geiger who apparently wrote for the show in the 50's and may have bridged the gap between Vendig and the Hursley's or it could have been Charles Gussman, but I could find no info on him. Frank & Doris Hursley Dec 30, 1957 - Jun 05, 1964 Julian Funt & David Lesan I could only find one month from Jul 1967 from Lesan's archive. The first mention of the pair as HW of the show is Jul 1966, however general consensus would place them directly after the Hursley's in 1964. The last mention is from Feb 1968. I am pretty sure they took over from Irna Phillips on GL from May 68 (though not sure) Leonard Kanter and Doris Frankel - Only one mention of them from Sep 1970. Maybe or likely they took over from Lesan & Funt Lou Scofield - Mentioned as HW in an article from Nov 1970, based on below he probably finished Feb 16, 1971 Robert Soderberg & Edith Sommer - In an early June 1971 article it is mentioned they write both SFT and GL. They are mentioned again along with Eugenie Hunt and Ralph Ellis as writers in Sep 1971. Thanks to @RavenWhitney for Ralph Ellis' script archive. It does seem Robert,Edith, Raph and Eugenie were headwriting the show from Feb 17, 1971 - Sep 17, 1971. This still lines up with the September mention since that was written Sep 03, 1971. Eugenie Hunt & Ralph Ellis - Based on new info I will suggest they began Sep 20, 1971 as a solo pair. Possibly their end date was Christmas 1973. Maybe Theo took over from there but it isn't reflected in his script archive. Theodore Apstein - His script archive catalogue is sparse but mentions Jan 15, 1974 - May 24, 1974. There could be more not housed in the archive Gabriel Upton is mentioned as bridging the gap between Apstein and Marcus. If so she would have been there one month Ann Marcus - (June 24, 1974 - Nov 18, 1975) She began with episode #5913. Since we know the 6,000th ep aired Oct 31, 1974. I counted backwards and adjusted for at least three pre-emptions I know occured in July 1974 and it landed me at the week of June 24, 1974. Her last episode is #6274. I counted forward from ep 6,000 and it landed me on Nov 18, 1975. However there may have been one or two pre-emptions so at the very least her last episode would have been that week. Peggy O'Shea (Approx Nov 19, 1975 - Dec 10, 1976) Information based solely on Irving Ellman and Ann Marcus info Irving Elman & Tex Avery (Dec 13, 1976 - Aug 05, 1977) Irving's script archive mentions these start and end dates Robert Shaw - If he followed Elman and Avery then he most likely started Aug 08, 1977 and went to very early March 1978 Henry Slesar - March 1978 - Approx Sep 08, 1978 - John-Michael Reed announced Slesar as HW in a Mar 26, 1978 article. He stated Slesar's first move was to axe three characters Evelyn Reedy and Margaret & Greg Hartford. These characters were gone the week of March 20, 1978. So his start date is no later than that week. Joyce & John William Corrington - Sep 11, 1978 - May 09, 1980 article states the Corringtons were hired and began writing from Aug 14, 1978. it also mentions it takes roughly a month for their scripts to air. Since they are both mentioned as HW from Sep 15, 1978 I would assume they started airing that week, which is one month after they were hired. The week of Sep 25 they axed Slesar's first addition to the show Chance Holliday Linda Grover & John Porterfield - May 12, 1980 - October 03, 1980 Lynda Hirsch announced their first air date Gabriel Upton - October 06, 1980 - Mar 27, 1981 She was announced as taking over temporarily around Sep 09, 1980 by Jon-Michael Reed, and again by Lynda Hirsch Oct 06, 1980. I assume that was her approx start date. NY Daily News announced her end date Harding Lemay - Mar 30, 1981 - Until strike. The strike started Apr 12, so an approx end date would be May 15, 1981 Don Chastain - May 18, 1981 - Mid December 1981 (approx Dec 11, 1981) Don stated he was writing the show for seven months before he was let go, so he most likely was writing during the strike, and he was fired the day after he handed in his first long term story projection. He had been working from a previous story projection (Harding Lemay??) John Burnett & Millie Taggart - Mid Dec 1981 - Mid Jan 1982 Both were announced in Nov as new HW and Mary Stuart held a party for them. Sorry she threw the party for new producer Fred Bartholomew Ralph Ellis & Eugenie Hunt - Mid Jan 1982 - Mar 26, 1982 Announced around Dec 11 as taking over with Millie Taggart, Courtney Sherman Simon and Nancy Ford as dialogue writers. They were still there when the show left CBS This is all I have done so far. At least the 1970's is mostly covered. Once I get more I will post. ETA: For the record the three pre-emptions I am sure happened in July 1974 were July 02, 1974 - CBS News Special: Nixon in Moscow July 24, 1974 - CBS News Special: Impeachment - The Court and the Committee July 25, 1974 - CBS News Special: House Committee Debate on Impeachment There are other possible pre-emptions which affected Y&R and may have affected SFT as well. This would change Ann Marcus' start date. So her general date still stands at the week of June 24, 1974 (Maybe June 27, 1974) but all depends on how many July pre-emptions actually affected the show.
  13. I go through script archive collections. To be honest there isn't much there. I do have some info for Search For Tomorrow I was going to put in that thread as I have Ann Marcus' episode numbers from her archive and was able to estimate pretty accurate dates. There are several places where writers have donated papers and scripts for archive. The Jerry Dobson collection is an eye opener and not sure what to think as it conflicts with some other info. It basically has scripts written by him for Guiding Light starting from Apr 21 1975 and scripts attributed to him for ATWT starting from Aug 28, 1979. Which makes me wonder when Doug Marland would fit in there and where the info on Marland came from for his brief 1979 run. It also has the Dobson's last script for GH as July 04, 1975. So it might be that the Dobsons were working on both GH and GL for a couple months. Bridget did say she was contracted to P&G while still writing GH. Maybe Cenedella wasn't working out and they asked the Dobson's to do double duty for a bit before they moved over. I can PM you links, though I have mostly exhausted them by now, but maybe you will find something in there I didn't
  14. Awesome thanks for that.
  15. No worries. Cool, thanks for that info
  16. I did some more research @Paul Raven Tell me what you think, or if maybe you already had this information if it lines up. These dates are still estimates but seem more accurate and pretty close. Loring Mandel (Jan 31, 1972 - Sep 14, 1973) - Based on his script archive I took the weekly summary breakdowns and calculated based on tape dates. The scripts they have for him pretty much line up to this. His first episode is #5287 taped Jan 24, 1972, which probably aired a week later Monday January 31, 1972. His last is #5696 with a tape date of Aug 27, 1973. Taking into account the pre-emptions from Watergate and the week or so between taping and air date, I figured his most likely last air date was Sep 14, 1973. Claire Labine & Paul Avila Mayer (Sep 17, 1973 - May 30, 1975) - This would suggest that Labine and Avila Mayer started approx Sep 17, 1973, which seems to match up to general consensus and the first mention of them as HW's in soap press. Based on the previous info I provided, it would place their last date as May 30, 1975. Margaret DePriest (Jun 02, 1975 - Dec 01, 1975) and The Schnieders (Dec 02, 1975 - Sep 17, 1976) I have listed above with approx start and end dates and the most likely start date for Gabriel Upton being Sep 20, 1976. Based on newspaper articles and script archives. I also found Ann Marcus' script archive and it lists her episodes as #7134 - #7316. Since we know #7316 was the last episode on Feb 01, 1980, I counted back and adjusted for pre-emptions and it landed me at approx May 21, 1979. This matches with articles stating Ann would start in late May. I assumed that meant she would begin writing late May and her work would start airing a few weeks later, but I guess the announcement coincided with her episode air dates. This then made me wonder if the Oct 13, 1978 announcement for Jean Holloway occured as she took over and was just starting to write the show or if her episodes had or were about to air. So this one is still up in the air. It still places her roughly Oct 78 or Nov 78.
  17. I guess it is likely 1975 was probably the last time it was mentioned. I assume once Laura came on all talk of another child probably went out the door. Some actors have great memories for their character's past though, even minor forgotten details, so possibly. I guess if she carried that with her character for years it may have burned in her memory. ETA: This has been kicking in my memory for a while and related to Denise, just a bit of fun trivia. I had a 1972 issue of Daytime TV that I have since lost, but it listed in error Denise Alexander as star of General Hospital, haha. It is almost like it was destined to happen. I wish I still had it. I remember having to double check to make sure.
  18. In the 1975 B&W kinescope floating about she tells Cam or Joel about this. It is her birthday episode I think. She doesn't go into detail from what I remember but tells him she doesn't care if they have children as she lost two babies before Bryna is accurate, but there is always the possibility that the story changed somewhere along the way
  19. Yeah I am pretty sure the impeachment hearings were during July 74. Not 100% on that. I counted 6 pre-emptions for Y&R between Jul 02 - Aug 01
  20. Me too. I could find nothing on them other than an old post by @saynotoursoap who recapped some of their main story about bringing back Paul Raven and the murder of John Randloph. It is still unclear if Oliver Hailey actually took on LOL and replaced the Shapiro's. Watching their emmy legends interview it sounds like he did as Richard Shapiro mentions "he go into too many arguements" or something like that. But I wonder if that was during story conferences before he actually wrote anything and, if he did, how long was he there? In the same interview the interviewer states they started in 1969. Paul Raven/Matt Corby "returned" by June 1970 (as far as I can tell, may have been May) and Robert Shaw was HW again by either Oct or Dec 1970 (at the latest)
  21. Yeah fair enough, based on her Emmy Legends interview it sounds like she just wasn't the best fit for Days. At least what Days was when she took over.
  22. I also noticed Gabriel Upton a.k.a Gillian Houghton was the kiss of death for many shows too. I believe she was the last HW on The Secret Storm and Love of Life's ratings tanked when she joined. The show lost a whole ratings point during her run. I assume this is also why producer Jean Arley got the boot around the same time.
  23. I was waiting for someone to react to this, haha. Everything I have heard/read suggests Days fell into a great big mess once Ann Marcus took over. Oddly enough in 1977 the Daytime Serial Newsletter readers voted Days best 1hr show.
  24. Not sure if you have checked out frenchfan's Look into the past thread. I posted Sep - Dec 1973 synopsis from Bryna Laub's daytime serial newsletter and frenchfan has posted Dec 74 onwards. So almost all of their run is there if you haven't already read it. Same. It is also maddening when trying to research this information as I am sure there are details I have missed simply because names and details were wrong.
  25. Cool thanks. Yeah names were often wrong in soap columns and newspapers in general
