  1. I have no real use for Tony Blair, but his points at the end about populism are valid.
  2. Time doesn't give a damn. It's all about sales. I'm biased against them ever since an anti-gay article they wrote about a decade ago, I will admit, but seeing them suck up so much media space for these cheap, Tina Brown-esque covers gets on my nerves. In other news, it's just one judge of many, but it shows the importance of a closely divided Senate with unified Democrats. And kudos to Tim Scott for sinking this nomination (no kudos to media darling Marco for bandwagoning as per usual). https://www.vox.com/2018/7/19/17592120/ryan-bounds-tim-scott-trump-court-nominee-racism
  3. Thanks for finding that.
  4. Thanks for figuring out the date.
  5. Thanks for finding that! I see an election poster for Ed on the back wall of his scene so it must be from mid/late 1980?
  6. I don't think the GOP will let Trump get close to that type of power. It's one thing to put up with him while he's doing what they want, and being scared of his fanbase, but I think his usefulness is coming to an end for them. I do think we are reaching a point where fascism will lead to elections being suspended, but likely with a more subtle and even more dangerous Republican than Trump. Before Obama I always thought the first black President would be a Republican, as I always thought that would be the case with a woman (I still do). Republicans have the media control and the sway to diffuse situations in order to get what they want (if Reagan - a Hollywood actor and a divorcee - had been a Democrat in 1980, he never would have been elected). They unleashed holy hell on Obama because of his race (you could see that a lot of the racism toward the Obama family was not some strategy but just unbridled bile retched up from centuries of fragile white egos and unearned exceptionalism) but also because he was a Democrat, so whipping up bigotry served their purposes. If Republicans had tried to stem the tide, I think, while the backlash would still have been bad, it wouldn't have been AS bad. But they didn't want to, so everyone is paying the price...including them. I think Obama was right to run when he did. While many Democrats could have probably won in 2008, Obama had to fight like hell in 2012, against a man the media had been pushing for a decade or more, with a Democratic Party that was increasingly weakened and divided. We got those 4 years because of him. And it is so difficult for a black candidate to have a chance. Look at how Jesse Jackson was treated in terms of respect or input from the party or the media compared to Bernie Sanders. Or the hostility toward Kamala Harris from the minute anyone talked about her running. Obama had a moment in time, and he was right to take it.
  7. I think some of the people who upload those junctions likely have some episodes, but they never upload any shows from those channels.
  8. Ryan is ditching the stunt vote on ICE. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/16/ryan-republicans-ice-immigration-abolish-725071
  9. I hadn't seen this promo before. It's about 6 minutes in.
  10. I think she will still win, but her reaction to his being on the ballot (essentially freaking out, along with her supporters) didn't help matters. She reminds me of Bernie in that she seems very defensive to the idea of not being all things to all people, as when she and/or some of her supporters got upset over other Democrats saying she won because of issues in her distract, rather than because she unlocked the door to the universe. I really do wonder how much any candidates are helped by the Bernie parade or by being told to hold their noses for progressiveness. It didn't seem to help that guy running for mayor of Omaha very much.
  11. Lots of great old acts in this.
  12. I hadn't seen the fan art. Thanks. Lovely (and it taught me about a few companions I didn't know about, like Gus Goodman). I'm glad he included Sharon Davies. I'd seen some of the Twitch comments, which were a lot of fun. Anyway, here is the first look: It's alright. Seems a bit dated (about ten years off) and also a bit Torchwood, but I'm glad they didn't try too hard.
  13. Is this Denise Pence in the first ad?
  14. I read about this earlier but had hoped it was an exaggeration. I'm getting bad flashbacks to Bill Frist diagnosing brain dead people as cognizant video videotape. https://heavy.com/news/2018/07/paul-gosar-dentist-body-language-strzok-video/ His brother apparently hates him more than anyone else ever could. https://www.azcentral.com/story/opinion/op-ed/laurieroberts/2017/10/24/rep-gosars-siblings-aghast-paul-has-sunk-so-low/795043001/
  15. Sadly a lot of people will just see the "gotcha" selectively edited clips that were going around social media. Between the dumbasses in Congress and the increasingly reactionary and completely inept clown in the White House, I'm not sure we've been as impotent or as open to being completely left behind (and not in the Kirk Cameron way) as we are now. I have no use for Theresa May, but for Trump to go over during a visit and trash her at length - someone who is supposed to be his ally and who took huge heat for having him - is the epitome of the petty and pathetic mentality of just trying to smash all the toys all the time, simply for the hell of it. He has no plans (beyond what Putin tells him or what lines his pockets) and doesn't even make a token effort to pretend he has one now. He has never been more out of control, and this is just going to get worse and worse unless someone in Congress steps in.
  16. Yeah. I had no interest in that pairing, and Nicole was just drab at that time. It really was just Jensen's looks and charisma that carried the part. It wasn't until Supernatural that I even knew he could act.
  17. That's interesting. Were all those characters written out, as planned (with the others brought in)? I didn't know that Janice Wylie's murder was so known to cause this level of concern with a name. I'm trying to remember if there were any women on soaps in these years with that name. ATWT had a Janice, but that was from the late '50s on.
  18. Poor Denise Nickerson. I had no idea she was ill (she had a stroke in June and has had other problems; her family is asking for money). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5943247/Willy-Wonka-Chocolate-Factory-star-Denise-Nickerson-61-suffers-stroke.html

  20. I remember the rumors back when he first came back via Jensen Ackles that Eric had had a secret male lover in Colorado. Then his secret turned out to be some girl he met at Bible school. I guess it's fitting that Jensen Ackles would go on to play a character endlessly speculated on as gay or bisexual by many of his show's fans...
  21. Is this Milette Alexander in the Baby Magic ad?
  22. I'd say it's less about Trump and more about how craven Republicans are in the last decade. They also fully supported Steve Scalise after it was revealed he spoke in front of a white supremacist group. This was in 2015/late 2014. People in the media who try to make this depravity all about Trump are setting us all up in the long run.
  23. I just hope he manages to have a chance in Thailand, let alone anywhere else. The world as a whole is becoming colder and harder on this front.
  24. Resentment toward NATO was a big thing with Republicans even before Trump. Another case of the GOP being given a handwave. I won't be surprised if he does pull us out. It's getting difficult to react...
