  1. Oh that economy. I hope people will have the sense to vote in a check for Trump before it's too late. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/10/a-rare-and-worrisome-thing-happened-during-wednesdays-stock-market-slaughter-bonds-fell-too.html https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/10/investing/stock-market-today-techs-falling/index.html
  2. I think if I'd been watching back then I would share your reaction more. As it is what happened with Deena and Billy bothers me more than just about anything on Emmerdale. Anyway, at least this is happy (not the right word) news for Leah Bracknell. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/news/a868144/emmerdale-leah-bracknell-cancer-thriver-terminal-diagnosis/
  3. You're right about the plot holes. I figured, if I'm being generous, Graham and Kim told him about Charity to give him a reason to want to buy Home Farm. I agree Kim > Debbie, although honestly I think Debbie has always been more popular than people think she is. If they did use Kim to try to wave away Debbie's acid attack plot then that is pretty sad (I figure the Sarah heart saga is used more for that purpose). I also wonder how much of this was rushed around if the guy who plays Joe decided to leave unexpectedly.
  4. I understand what you mean. I guess, for me, just her putting him in a boarding school and their losing contact is less of a destruction than something I could have seen happening, especially given her mental health. If they'd had him saying that she had disowned him and said he was a loser like his father, and so on, it would have bothered me. I can see why people are unhappy though.
  5. I didn't think it was a big leap from the Zoe of her last 5-6 years on the show. She was much colder. She'd had two mental breakdowns and in her last year on the show tried to kill someone and then blew up Home Farm. She also had never been that close to Joe. I can believe that Jean would have been her main priority. The problem is we aren't actually seeing Zoe to explain her actions, and the writing is vague and half-hearted, so she looks worse.
  6. I don't think Kerry or Biden will get the nomination. Kerry in particular will probably languish far back in the pack. Biden missed his chance in 2016. I think there are younger and more vital Democrats but the problem is there are so many, it will be a messy primary. The irony with Obama is that he was in many ways very traditional. He only became more assertive because he was viciously attacked and degraded for years on end. I do think we need someone with experience, but I think we also need someone who is willing to roll the dice and take drastic actions. Without them we're going to crash hard - if we aren't already anyway. Anyway, in more Republicans-showing-what-women-mean-to-them news:
  7. CNN is so embarrassing. They know that isn't going to happen, they just want attention.
  8. I thought she was their big hope. Is something coming in our joke of a foreign policy that would destroy her future political career, so she's leaving before it happens?
  9. I finally finished the premiere. Jodie Whittaker found her stride toward the end of the episode, when she calmed the Smith/Tennant impersonation and the OTT line readings. I hope we will see the more low-key performances in future. I liked the companions, especially Ryan, who felt like someone I'd never seen before as a companion. Yaz was fine - she reminded me more of a Torchwood character (minus the sex and being horribly murdered). I'm sure we'll learn more about her. I think Bradley Walsh is a good actor overall and has a warm screen presence, but I could see him "acting" a bit too much. I hope he'll settle down. I thought the woman who played Grace was very good and I wish she could have joined as well. The plot was the usual Chibnall - flat and needlessly choppy and confusing (why did we get nothing of the guy who was being hunted after the Doctor dressed him down; what exactly was Grace even doing, as she just seemed to have a death wish; did the bad guy die or did he just disappear, and is the threat even over...??). The ratings were great, and while they will of course fall, at least this shows a lot of people are still drawn to the program.
  10. One of his fellow bigots on the council claimed he just said this because someone in DC threw a coat hanger at him. I find that hilarious.
  11. Yes. I enjoy old commercials partly for that reason.
  12. What a wonderful mother this is. All to get liked in a sexist hashtag.
  13. I'm glad he isn't around to see what the state's become, honestly.
  14. Oh she was part of their gerrymandering plan. North Carolina Republicans are scum through and through. Hateful, awful people.
  15. I saw a lengthy article on Politico about how Democrats are so upset and anxious over being seen as "wet rags." This has been a real running theme with the media, a narrative they use hand-in-hand with their GOP. We've also seen it on SNL recently. They are setting people up for the inevitable and in many cases rigged wins for Republicans in November - it will be because Democrats aren't "tough enough." And then the twofer will be when Democrats do become more vocal, the media will say they are "angry" and can't be trusted to lead the country because they are out of control.
  16. Google+ is shutting down in a matter of months. This is the main place that 'new' Y&R episodes have shown up this past year, aside from those @YRfan23 shares with us, so it sucks. Hopefully that Pannoni uploader will find somewhere else we will know about.
  17. Many seem to have already written her off. The funny part is that the Republicans didn't even bother to give more than lip service to Manchin's vote - McConnell said that's great, but he still needs to lose, and Trump Jr called him a liar and told people to vote for his opponent. I tend to wonder if these are Manchin's actual views anyway, beyond just being a sellout. I just don't believe West Virginia voters would have rejected him over this particular issue. Yes they are very conservative, but I don't believe this particular topic would have gotten that type of backlash.
  18. I feel like it just stuck with Argento and McGowan because they were two of the first voices through the Weinstein story, and they were both happy for the publicity. Even with Alyssa Milano, although she at least seemed more willing to give credit to the woman who started #MeToo, has taken on a presence that I find confusing - why was she at the Ford and Kavanaugh hearings, in a prime spot for camera time? Was this about her or about Christine Ford? I don't think #MeToo was a fad, now ruined by cold, hard reality - I think that it can survive with some changes, I don't think it has been mortally compromised - but the Hollywood-focused elements need to be refocused or scaled back completely.
  19. I can't imagine Shana Alexander's comments being on a news show today...
  20. Three from Corrie. Ugh Jodie Whittaker really is doing a bargain basement Tennant. If I was a bigger fan of his I might enjoy it, but I'm not. At least the trailer created this:
  21. I never thought I'd be seeing statements from Bonnie Bartlett. Very powerful. Rose McGowan, like Argento, seems deeply disturbed, and Rose seemed to be looking for huge validation and adulation from this movement that was never going to be possible. She wanted it to fix her when she can only fix herself. She needs a lot of help.
  22. I think things like the "girl squad" or whatever they were called (some of whom, like Selena Gomez, decided it was a great idea to go All Lives Matter on Twitter in response to criticism) and Taylor's "special place in hell" comment about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler set up a negative picture of a cold, calculated image of white feminism as elitist, uncaring, etc (something Fey herself has been criticized for in more recent times). I guess it became easy to see the worst of Swift because this type of Internet talk became so loud and there was nothing else going out beyond talk of rivalries or boyfriends, etc. It sounds like the far right candidate in Brazil became more popular in part because of a stabbing. Apparently assassination attempts are very common in the political system there - one of the factors in a number of black women running this year. https://face2faceafrica.com/article/inspired-by-their-murdered-colleague-these-black-women-are-running-for-office-in-brazil This couldn't come at a worst time (the shift to hard right in Brazil) as it looks like we're in deep [!@#$%^&*] by 2040 in climate changes. The way things are going it will probably be sooner than that. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/07/climate/ipcc-climate-report-2040.html
