I can understand why. Someone else who was there was saying that this is a day she'd remember forever.

I early voted today. I was in line for two hours, by far the longest it's ever taken. We'll see if that means something good on Tuesday.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I have to admit this story was very interesting to me, as it's an ugly reality of the idea of great passionate love and how it can survive anything. It also broke up a couple I never liked (Bob/Brenda). I do think it's time to end though.

As always with CNN you can see how smug and deluded everyone who works there is and how shaken up they are by any hint of reality. I really do hate everything CNN represents. They are enablers and sycophants. They clearly still see all of this as a game. I saw an article earlier today about how they're likely to no longer bring on Trump people as pundits and will instead just have Republican members of Congress. It's so clearly just because Trump hates them and has caused violence toward them. Yet it means nothing, because the Republicans in Congress support all of this. They will hire various lunatics just because they were in Congress. And somehow this is a principled stand. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like this on CNN soon: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2018/11/gop-lawmaker-matt-shea-releases-christian-manifesto-calling-for-biblical-law/

This really is out of place with the above articles, but our VP is so embarrassing. Forced slang when you're as whitebread as is humanly possible reminds me of Pappy Bush, only Pappy wasn't a self-loathing psychopath who wanted to end the world. Moments like these are when the mask slips and you see just how craven and desperate for attention he is.

I'm going to judge something designed to remind us of what a joke soaps are. If that isn't fair, I'm sorry. Feel free to put me on ignore.

All My Children Tribute Thread
It's just so odd when even people who were on soaps portray them as such a cheap parody - and it feels so dated, as soaps have no real relevance in current pop culture. It's like going back to 1991. It doesn't help that when I clicked on I saw Mark Consuelos. There are few ways to get me to lose interest faster than seeing Mark Consuelos.

I know it is not a big deal compared to the real crises we are facing, but I still can't help feeling annoyed that Nancy Pelosi is out here saying, essentially, that they've already won. What kind of a message is that with early voting still going on and with the election not even actually here? Great way to make the people who love to stay home just find another reason to stay home, and the people who vote based on hate find another reason to go vote. Hopefully most votes aren't won or lost on this type of thing. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/31/pelosi-house-2018-dems-win-949770- The Politics Thread
More on Pence's favorite "rabbi." https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/turns-out-rabbi-who-angered-jews-defrocked It never fails. These people have to be corrupt and seedy, on top of being stupid and bigoted.- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
I felt like they were torn in various directions in this episode, between the more brash and silly humor with the party and most of the family, and the plot with Darlene. All I could think was that a lot of the people who would have loved the "PC gone wild" plot with Darlene and Mark probably stopped watching the show, so it was going to get a more mixed or negative reaction from the remaining viewers. The story didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would - they did try to have Darlene represent both sides, and they made a good portion of the reactions feel based in the history of the Conners and showing Darlene as continuing her parents' behavior whether she likes it or not. Sara Gilbert and the guy who played the principal were pretty good, and they didn't overdo the cutesiness or social issue element with Mark in the way I thought they might. What was it Darlene said she was dressed up as? I just couldn't watch the scene where Darlene insulted the guy who owned the insult diner. You could tell where that was going from early on and that type of humor just makes me cringe like nothing else. I'm not saying the scenes were bad - it's just my own personal taste. The other Conner scenes were more of a mixed bag. I would have preferred seeing more of DJ, Gina and Mary, as the scenes about Harris trying to get Dan to let her drive the car and especially the scene with Matthew Broderick felt very padded. I haven't actually seen Matthew Broderick act in a long time so I can't remember if he was just always...like that, or not. I actually liked the Harris story and I think it was just having the same scene for the third or fourth time that made it where you started to kind of just see the actress reciting her lines. Anyway, I did like the last scene with Mary in the car. And the scene with Jackie describing Harris' awful driving cracked me up. Jackie getting the reaction she wanted from Dan about her boyfriend and reacting with righteous fury was also funny - and a lot like her old self. The stuff with Becky taking the candy was coarse but it reminded me of the old show, especially the bit where Gina kept silent in exchange for half the candy bar. That made me laugh. There's a peril in just throwing one-liners at Becky, as they did here, although there were also parts I laughed at (like her finding out she wasn't on Dan's insurance). Sara Gilbert is the one who seems to get the most coherent focus, but John Goodman was the real MVP of the episode for me, even with so much good work from the rest of the cast. I thought he might just phone it in for this possible last season but he's had a lot more vitality in these last two episodes and he reminds me a lot of what Dan was in the first seasons of the show (just older and not as energetic, obviously). I grew tired of Dan as the seasons passed, but he was a big reason why I loved the show as a kid, so it's nice to have a little of that back. He also works so well with pretty much everyone and that helps connect what otherwise feels like disparate strands.- The Politics Thread
Apparently someone added that to Christopher Waltz's Wiki bio. Hilarious.- The Politics Thread
You'll be shocked to hear that the AP was running Trump's lies (about the US being the only country to have citizenship) as truth until they were called out. If this really does "change the narrative" and helps Republicans keep Congress (although given all the voter suppression and vote rigging that may already be an absolute), then it just shows how far gone we are as a country.- The Politics Thread
I normally don't read Huffington Post as it's crap but this, all of this, especially the photo, is pure insanity. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/pete-olson-indo-american-carpetbagger-cnn-sucks_us_5bd761dfe4b07427610a2957- The Politics Thread

I agree, but it's a terrible photo for all of them. Ryan Seacrest in particular.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
It's hard for me to really invest in this about Cain's guilt because he's killed people before. He and Sadie sabotaged the show homes, which led to the deaths of three people. He did feel some regret, but not a crippling level of guilt. Moira is boxed in. If she reacts to any criminal activity, people will attack her for being a hypocrite. An awful writing choice that will stay with her the rest of her time on the show. I do think Joe is still alive and we just won't find out for a while, if ever. If we don't see a body that means he isn't dead. The same thing happened with Kim. I'm really glad you are still watching and posting. Emmerdale fans are some of the most annoying fans out there so there are very few I can tolerate.- The Politics Thread
I would think that these celebrities know that Trump (or his backers) wants them to respond because they want the conversation to shift toward easier, safer topics, like out of control elite liberals. I'm sure George Clooney had struggles, but most people aren't going to believe that, or care.- The Politics Thread

One of my aunt's friends called her, upset, about the synagogue shootings, as she realized she knew one of the victims. It just reminds me that as these shootings get more and more commonplace, they will start to become less of tragedies we hear on the news and more people who have been a part of our lives.- The Politics Thread
Brazil just elected a far right bigot as President, a man who hates all the right people. He may also help push us completely into suicide mode as a planet, as he wants to gut the rain forests (what's left of them anyway). I was on Twitter and some of the top tweets I saw were from someone saying it was all Steve Bannon's work as Bannon has ties to this man. All I could think was yet again Americans make everything about themselves. From what I've read Brazil has many reasons why they've turned to such dangerous territory.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?

This has nothing to do with current politics but it's a really fascinating "guerrilla footage" type look at things during the Ford Presidency. The last half, with the focus on DC society, is especially interesting.- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
I found this tumblr that has a lot of old Roseanne content (sadly the only real posts on tumblr about the show now are far right memes...ugh). They have some old Halloween photos. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed the early Halloween episodes. http://rabbittroop4ever.tumblr.com/post/11487062802/they-always-had-such-amazing-costumes-on-roseanne http://rabbittroop4ever.tumblr.com/post/11561328879/roseannes-halloween-awesomeness-part-2- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
I forgot to say how much I enjoyed a few of Becky's lines in this episode, like when she said she was getting a mobile home with a tree she could cling to when the tornado hit, and when she said she too was looking forward to meeting the sober Becky. Lecy Goranson has such a unique delivery - it can be very rough at times but when it works it really works. It's one of the things that makes the show feel different. - The Politics Thread
