It's good to see you here again, Brent! Speaking of Bolster:- The Politics Thread
And those FBI agents were without pay. I guess at least they got to take the camera with them so they and we could have a moment to treasure... Stone is an odious man and has been for many years. He's everything wrong with the Republican Party of the last 4 decades.- Film Awards Thread
The Gaynor/March version will always be the best for me - Fredric March's performance is superb and the last scene is a real gut punch. The movie is also more honest and does not overdo the leading lady's voice to the point of unintentionally diminishing her, as the Garland and Streisand versions did.- The Politics Thread
I know Chait is well-respected. Whether that's deserved, I can't guess these days. I thought the article was confusing, but I'm probably needlessly derailing the original point of posting the piece. Sorry about that. I have never heard of Kushner being right or effective. I think he just gets some credit for sticking it out this long and because he "should" have been influential or powerful, in the narrative which many in the media created (and I also thought he and Ivanka would have more influence than they really do).- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
That's lovely. Thank you.- Film Awards Thread
This goes against one of the best purposes of the Oscars - to showcase all that different musical material. Haven't we had enough of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper overacting "sh-sh-sh" by now? They sound like they're taking a dump.- The Politics Thread
That article defeats its own point. It goes into long detail about how many Democrats are caving, yet claims Kushner is wrong to think they're caving.- Film Awards Thread
It mostly seems to have been nominated just because it made money. This must be one of the worst years for Oscar frontrunners. Christian Bale seems likely to win for Vice but the movie was panned by many. Green Book seems likely to clean up, yet I have read so many, many, many bad things about the movie and the people who make it.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Glad to hear Steve Halliwell is on the mend. I'd heard that they pushed back Lisa's return because of his absence but didn't know about him having such heart problems. https://metro.co.uk/2019/01/24/emmerdales-zak-dingle-star-steve-halliwell-rushed-hospital-heart-surgery-8387416/- The Politics Thread
It's just stunting and posturing from people who don't actually care about anything but their own image (and follower count). I hope whoever gets the nomination does their best to ignore or bypass most social media focus because it is just toxic.- The Politics Thread
Biden has been seen as damaged goods since the plagiarism scandals of 1987 or 1988. I really wish he would just take on an elder statesman role. I feel like he has big regrets because he might have won in 2016. I think he probably had a better chance than Hillary, it's just that no one understood the type of candidate she'd be running against - a Jeb or a Marco would have beaten him, which I don't think Trump would have as Biden could hit back hard and fast on Trump's level the way Hillary couldn't. The primary stuff has already been so nasty that I think whoever gets the nomination will be loathed by many in the base. Add in meddling from foreign actors (which apparently is still very influential as they seem to have helped start the Covington stuff last week) and a media that hates Democrats and loves Trump and the GOP, and I'd say anyone who thinks 2020 is going to be anything but a dead heat is in for a rude awakening. That is if we even have elections in 2020. The way things have been going lately I have my doubts.- The Politics Thread
Yes, that's why I said the left has not liked him for a long time. The Anita Hill issue is always going to be a nonstarter.- The Politics Thread
I think a lot of people on the left have never liked him (even less than they liked Obama) but put up with him. Their patience has run out. There's also a never-ending posturing and superiority dance that makes up so much of social media. I'm never sure how much it translates to real life, but it makes online political reading a slog, if one even bothers. You often hear people say things like they hate all white people or they hate all men or they hate all straight people or all straight people should die, and on and on. They get lots of pats on the back from their circle jerk and ignore the rest. Many of the people who focus the most on anti-white screeds are white people who are desperate to be liked. And I have a feeling most of them won't be voting either.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread

Bryan Singer writeup. He's ducked so many of these moments that were supposed to be a reckoning, I don't think much will change here. https://www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/580462/- The Politics Thread
That's interesting. I hadn't heard about this (I imagine if the opposite defections had occurred it would have been front page news). Usually this amount of defections do suggest long-term trends. I'm not sure if it will be the case in Kansas, given their history, but it is a natural next step to earlier this decade, where many moderate Republicans were targeted and defeated by lunatics.- The Politics Thread
Unsurprisingly, the Kentucky kid is backed by conservative names, one of whom used to work for W. As with Justice I Like Beer, people need to remember just how odious those tied to W are instead of giving him a cuddle because he stays quiet and gives Michelle Obama candy. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/jennnings-pr-firm-played-role-in-phillips-sandman-spin- Lovers and Friends/For Richer For Poorer Discussion Thread
Richard Backus? Yes.- The Politics Thread
I have no interest in any of the "spirited" exchanges either, especially since they go along with the idea that being an attention whore is the only way to run a government. All the panting and swooning over who gets the most retweets is nothing more than a front for systemic efforts to tear down any candidate who is seen as a threat to Saint Bernie. The backlash to Kamala Harris was immediate, very ugly, and also openly and proudly racist. I vote for Democrats, but I don't consider myself to share a party with these types of people, and I never will. Cuomo gets a lot of free passes because many people see him as a hot piece of tail. He still works for CNN, which loves Trump and likely wants him to be reelected, and he's still a Beltway mouthpiece.- Another World Discussion Thread

The media is in full cleanup/damage control mode for those Kentucky boys and their hate school, so stories like this will never be told outside of Twitter. They still break your heart. - Another World Discussion Thread
