Apparently the Bev and Kev ad damaged her career.

A soap actress won that last year too. Wow. Scott Evans was there with Chris (somebody said this he was wearing a suit Chris wore before)

This is such a nice photo: As someone who grew up watching 227 I will always think of that when I see Regina but I know she has done so much more. I'm just overjoyed for her. So apparently this is the first (and probably the last for a while) Oscars where a majority of the acting winners weren't white.

Green Book is the typical Best Picture of recent years - it makes Oscar voters feel like they're tackling a cause and also is a finger in the eye to more outspoken liberal voices. I thought Christian Bale might win so that was a little surprising, but I'm happy enough for Rami Malek. I saw that ACT-UP was upset he didn't mention the fight against AIDS, which I agree with, although some of the criticisms (like him saying Freddie was gay and not bi, or not saying enough about Freddie, etc.) just become formless. Apparently Rami fell off the stage after he won. I had read that Olivia Colman was getting more and more steam, so I wasn't hugely shocked by her win. I felt so bad for Glenn Close, as this was probably her last chance, but Olivia had a very gracious and funny acceptance speech. Loved seeing John Mulaney, and Chris Evans looked cuddlier than ever.

Best/Worst Soap Wedding Dresses, Hats, Headpieces and Veils
I have a whole article with photos of the dress somewhere (it's probably way back in the Doctors thread) but here's Althea's wedding dress, which I guess was down to the Lion in Winter being big around this time.

That wasn't the dress Barbara wanted, was it? I thought her dress was destroyed. Colleen Zenk pulled it off pretty well.

Another video/article where the journalists seem to be gushy over Bradley Cooper and resentful that more people don't love him. I have never really gotten the hype about him to that degree (I guess it doesn't help that I first knew him from Alias, a show that had so many, many, many rumors, rumors much more interesting than anything that ever happened onscreen). Wasn't the rumor that Lauren Bacall didn't win because a lot of voters just didn't like her? Anyway, a few more anonymous ballots. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/02/anonymous-ballot-editing-voter-criticizes-academy-1202045610/ https://www.indiewire.com/2019/02/anonymous-oscar-ballot-publicist-roma-vice-black-panther-1202045378/ https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-roma-bradley-cooper-mahershala-ali/ https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-black-panther-yalitza-aparicio-christian-bale/ https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-vice-glenn-close-regina-king/ https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-roma-best-picture-rami-malek-mahershala-ali/ https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-blackkklansman-christian-bale-glenn-close/

Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
Seeing Michael Zaslow still makes my eyes well up 20 years later I remember the time this happened - it was around when I first started reading soap magazines. It was seen as something of a death knell for GL. If the show hadn't gotten a brief boost in late 95/early 96 I don't know if it would have survived.

This is mostly just getting coverage in right wing media for now but TPM isn't so I guess it is reliable enough. Ronan Farrow likely made a lot of enemies over the last few years (and I have to admit that I thought some of his Kavanaugh reporting was a bit sloppy) so I wonder if there will be more efforts to try to dig up dirt involving him. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/irs-analyst-charged-with-leaking-cohen-banking-info-to-michael-avenatti-ronan-farrow

Macready should be seated, rather than a new election, but that isn't likely to happen. They will have a new election, with a full court press from the media and the money men to get the Republican elected. And it will work.

I probably put too much stock into these types of reports, or positive writeups. They may just be writing a lot about Grant and his great journey and his love of the Oscar season, and so on, because they have nothing else positive to talk about (the Gaga story fizzled out months ago). We'll probably have the most predicted winners win in the end, although I have a feeling they won't give Regina King hers, which would be a shame.
