I mostly remember Smythe's Peter as a boo hiss baddie. Holder I think was probably a bigger villain, instead of just being under his father's thumb, but I think Holder was able to balance it off with his looks and charisma.

Gabet leans into the hints of scheming and the sparring with Donna - these are Raven moments. The irony being that I think she took the role in part because she didn't want to play Raven all over again. I guess they got rid of Chris Holder to make Peter more of a clearcut villain, but, while I had no real problem with Smythe, Holder was a very good fit for the show - likeable and charismatic, with a bit of an edge. Their loss. The standouts for me were the scenes with Nancy, Ada and Rachel. Nancy is a bit insufferable, but Jane Cameron works so well with Constance Ford and Vicky Wyndham. There's something very natural and very special about Wyndham's interactions with Rachel's loved ones that she never really got credit for. Her scene with Nancy is so natural I almost wonder if parts were ad-libbed. And Ford is just amazing, as always. AW was so lucky to have her and I'm glad, for all the huge upheaval over the years, they always seemed to know that. Petronia Paley was incredibly moving when speaking about Grant. The guy who played Grant also did a good job in those scenes. Hopefully the second half will pop up somewhere someday. Grant feels like more wasted potential, which happened over and over and over with AW and their black cast in the '80s and early '90s. It's a bit sobering watching those scenes in the hallway and remembering how many of the characters were killed off. Acting-wise, Taylor Miller is very good in the marital drama with Catlin, but I can see why viewers wouldn't connect to her. As for Catlin himself - something in the acting and writing has always felt a bit shaky to me about him, to be honest, although I can see why he was so popular.

I wasn't thinking of him as much as some of the craven people behind him, like Pompeo or Miller.

I've seen some people speculating that he is hoping the pullout will lead to an attack here which would help his reelection. I wouldn't be surprised.

Classy of Barbra to remember this, especially as we have yet another lurid biopic out about Judy.

It's always nice to see how much Madchen supports the Shelly/Bobby relationship. George Griffith seems to be a very passionate fan of the show. Sometimes actually working on a show can ruin that for somebody - I'm glad it didn't for him.

The End of Time was so wretched on every level that I can't even go back and watch any of RTD's run now. That and his petulant response to Ianto fans were my last straws for his work.

I liked Gina but they never did anything with the character. She was there to talk about Jesus and for the sake of a press release about being the girl DJ didn't want to kiss when they were young...and the wife he barely shared scenes or affection with when they grew up. The episode where they went to church to support her was a nice way to make her feel included and to show the softer side of the Conners, but most of the time they were at a loss. I haven't watched the new episodes yet but I wonder if they mentioned that Kathy's son was good friends with DJ.

I've long been aware they're out of touch - the problem is more the power they still have over the narrative and the country. As for the tweet, I mostly just enjoy any new example showing what a fraud and a weasel Marco Rubio is as to this day people keep pushing him.

I don't think the country is center-right, but I think the country is so burned out psychologically they are often tricked into ideas that end up being much more extreme than they realize. For instance, the section of so-called Christian Trump voters who are now, belatedly, speaking out about how concerned they are over his hardline policies regarding refugees. They were duped into believing that his clear bigotry and xenophobia was just talk to get elected. In many cases it's about framing, and a con job. Trump was good at conning people into believing what he was selling. There's not much of an alternative on the left because many on the left who are in positions of power aren't sociopaths and aren't there to just tell blatant lies. Hopefully voters will wake up this time. I saw Moore saying that Biden is the new Hillary. The problem with that argument is any Democrat who runs will be the new Hillary. And many of his supporters are already pushing that narrative, eagerly.
