  1. It's an interesting story for the film noir elements - I do wonder how the strike impacted it (she seemed to be more fixated on Tom pre-strike). It seemed to be panned at the time (SOD named it worst story of 1988).
  2. I'm not down, per se (although I appreciate the kindness) as much as resigned to what we're probably getting 4 more years of, but I just feel like the more that the tail-chasing narratives are cleared out and we have a direct contrast to Trump's policies, the more it will refine the message and prevent media bias from dominating.
  3. I'm sure it isn't to them - I'm talking more about Congress and social media, where this all just ends up going around in circles and people end up feeling demoralized and defeated over a complicated and stalled out narrative (as also happened with impeachment and Mueller). Sure enough, the whole thing is already being spun as a "win" for Trump in the media.
  4. Steve Bannon has already jumped in to praise this - which means the Republicans are obviously trying to sink it and overshadow any positive rollout (not that the media will give any). Apparently that old shitbag Navarro is fuming because he had an Executive Order along these lines drawn up for months and Kushner/Mnuchin blocked Trump from signing it. If Trump loses, Kushner will likely be the key reason why.
  5. Will have to watch that later. The Loving murder episodes are going back up on Youtube. pannoni has also reuploaded this, I think for the second or third time.
  6. Such a weird house. I preferred it to Reva living in Vanessa's house (that was always Vanessa's house to me), but the stairs in that place always freaked me out. I think someone did tumble down them at one point. I'm glad Jill Lorie Hurst, or whoever, at least briefly remembered Reva and Philip's friendship in the show's last year.
  7. Hopefully the returns likely being kicked past November will mean Democrats won't chase that shiny object - it is a quagmire many voters will tune out.
  8. Best of luck to Joy on that awful network. Speaking of awful, the "paper of record" apparently wants us to feel sorry for R Kelly??????
  9. Shameful game-playing. Exactly what I would expect of a man who let the AIDS crisis worsen.
  10. It was pretty stupid at the time to have three men who wanted Reva. I don't even think that was the case when Pam Long was writing the show. It didn't help that the Save Fifth Street story was so uninvolving. I did think Reva and Buzz were better than they might have seemed on paper. There was one fun scene I still remember when they had yet to consummate their relationship and were sitting in their bedroom, knowing Hawk was listening (as he was trying to prove they weren't really a couple). They were playing cards while making "passionate" sounds. They were broken up immediately after McTavish and Laibson were let go. Buzz caught her at Cross Creek with Josh and dumped her, as he knew she would never want him the way she wanted Josh.
  11. I had quit watching by 2005. Watching it since, I would say I am not a fan of having only a few people in an opening or an opening so centric on one "face." I also thought it was very generic and ABC-ish, like much of P&G by that time. The "Destiny" ad is even more generic and low-budget, but I don't mind it as much, since it does go back to GL's original concept, and reminds me a little of a cornier version of a Sisters opening sequence I was very fond of.
  12. I didn't mind the change as much as some did - the '02 opening was fine, but the Life Savers always felt cheesy to me. The '03 drumbeats and the way the last shot would segue into the first scene of the day I thought was vibrant and a good way to get us into the action. Unfortunately so much else budget-blowing from Conboy was not necessary, especially, as @Vee used to call it, the Maureen Garrett Baseball Field.
  13. Looks like the rightward shift mentioned some pages back is starting (although CNBC has a lot of right wing extremists who would sacrifice everything for a buck - Smith may actually be to their left).
  14. Lee Daniels?? I guess the perspective is no one will watch it after the second season.
  15. That's one of the few things which might shake up more of his support in deep red states like WV or KY, as they've had lots of strikes over education issues and pay in recent years. He'll still win those states, but it might help downballot candidates.
  16. The trash people who came up with this letter were so desperate it looks like at least one signatory was included without her consent.
  17. I'd love to read any of yours if the opportunity ever comes up again. That was a valuable service at a time when this board was really active and had a voice.
  18. The interview I was talking about was a podcast (he also interviewed Sharon Gabet and asked us to submit questions). I'd like that too. It's unfortunate that so many writers were not asked about their years on soaps in periods when they were able to go back in more detail. @FrenchFan did some great interviews with writers, and other than one glaring exception, the writers were usually very compelling and detailed and helped us fill in some blanks (I think Richard Backus was asked about his ATWT years in his interview).
  19. I think this is one of the cases where Locher's interview style of just talking to people might be better than specific questions. And I guess in cases like this with Bryce, HBS and Marx, it's an example of why people are more likely to just enjoy seeing their favorite actors again while those of us who might want to know details are more in the minority.
  20. I read some of it. My stomach churned when I saw people saying he must be right about refusing a vaccine because he knows information we don't. The danger from the media promoting and parading around sick people like Kanye and Trump is incalculable.
  21. None of that felt like Marland to me - he had such a specific style. That time period does seem to be a blur for those involved. Years ago when Horgan was interviewed, I submitted a question about bringing Eileen Fulton back as Lisa. She said something to the effect of having nothing to do with that or not being around at that time, even though I'm pretty sure she was.
