I have seen the same, which makes me hopeful, but I feel like the polling is creating dangerous media narratives.

I don't like daily tracking polls. They tend to have wild swings that get too much focus. I'm tired of the overemphasis on polls in general that has been popping up lately in the press and on social media. I feel like someone is setting us up. It's 2016 redux with this stuff.

I was watching the SNL episode from 2012 that Maya Rudolph hosted. She was in a talk show sketch where the joke was basically that black voters would support Obama no matter what. Her character was named Althea Davis. It was probably just a coincidence, but knowing The Doctors was taped at 30 Rock, it still made me smile.- The Politics Thread

That drawing is nightmare fuel... Earlier today I said human thumb Charlie Kirk took a photo with one of the Michigan militia people who planned to kidnap Gov Whitmer. As it turns out the man was an Idaho Trump cultist, not one of the militia people.- The Politics Thread
It's going to take a great deal for Jaime Harrison to win, so I credit him for not caring about the debate and putting his family first. He's a good man - unlike the truly loathsome Lindsey Graham, who was a piece of [!@#$%^&*] long before Trump won, just propped up by the media because he gave folksy interviews. Speaking of men who were never very good, Bob Dole is being roasted on Twitter for tweeting about how the Republican members of the Debate Commission are all anti-Trump. The whole thing is a sad display because 1) I highly doubt that is actually Dole tweeting (he's a very, very old man who was never very prone to social media) and 2) what does it say about today's GOP if the best they can dredge up is a hatchet man who lost in a landslide?- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think it will end up with her having a war with the Tates (maybe she can ask Robert for his hitman's number before Kim calls hers up). And I could see Andrea sleeping with Luke, or something. I'd like to see Victoria start up her own farm to phase Moira out of that part of the show, or to bring in more farming characters, but good luck there.- The Politics Thread
McConnell does not want to pass anything with the help of Democrats as he would look weak and set a bad precedent for himself, and a majority of Republicans in the Senate are too hardline to pass more relief than the very slimmed-down, meaningless aid they passed not long ago. And, as you mention, the liability clause. The vulnerable senators are basically SOL, with McConnell just pushing the blame onto Pelosi (or Trump) and playing the "we need checks on a Biden White House" card to help him keep the Senate. Sadly, there's a very strong chance this could work.- The Politics Thread
McConnell played Trump on this issue, as another relief bill is something he likely never wanted to do. He goaded Trump into a big meltdown canning any relief, and now we are in "no takesies backsies" mode. He knows many are stupid enough to blame Biden for this if he is elected, and he knows he has enough money and vote rigging to have a good chance of keeping the Senate in GOP hands, especially with vulnerable senators like Thom Tillis now using the "we need to be a check on a Biden administration" card that senators successfully used in 2016. The cruelest continue to skate and the rest of us will just continue to suffer.- Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
Big improvement. Here's a cut for time sketch he was in a few years ago (which has one of my favorite songs, and was poor Luke Null's highlight on the show):- The Politics Thread
I've heard people mention Mike Espy in the Mississippi Senate race. I've also heard some talk about the Alaska Senate race but I can't say. State legislative races can sometimes be most important in the long run. For instance, here's one for Michigan. It still feels too far away. The main question I have is seniors, as I don't know how likely they are to not go back to Trump (Sheldon Adelson is running ads saying Biden will cut social security - from material by scumbags like Greenwald). Hopefully they will not go back to him. A part of me thinks Pelosi may have been better off not doing the 25th Amendment commission as it just riles the right's voter base up even more, but I guess they are always riled up, no matter what. Trump supporter and champagne socialist Walker Bragman is back to remind us that all white men who are in militias are just suffering from "economic anxiety." One of those militia psychos who plotted to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer also showed up in a photo with human thumb Charlie Kirk.- The Politics Thread
Yet McConnell won't tell us his COVID results. That Whitmer news is terrifying. There's a lot of sneering on the right that "liberals burn down stores" and that conservatives "protest peacefully and pick up litter," but that is a complete lie, as proven over and over again. Michigan is also where we got that nightmarish photo of that Brad Parscale lookalike screaming and screaming at police.- The Politics Thread
Also saying "take it like a woman" when so many woman are raped and harassed. Not that she ever cared. She was fine with abuse and harassment until it affected her. She has flushed all her chances down the toilet. Even a shock value interview with Tara Reade got no clicks. She can continue to provoke on Twitter, that is as far as she will go at this point.- The Politics Thread
Glad I didn't watch much - sounds like the moderator and the press people already had their winner picked. Harris had a huge task ahead of her not only being a black woman but also having huge expectations. She seems to have done well in standing up for herself and her ticket, and didn't make the same mistakes Tim Kaine (who would have been a great VP as well, in another universe) made. That's the best to hope for. I see that Trump is trying to get out of the next debate, which is wise of him. Meanwhile, we are seeing the Trump sycophants laying out the table to tell us they are planning to take these elections by force. Be ready for anything.- Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
What an idiot - a huge opportunity. I'm sure he will be back though, as Lorne Michaels wants that male country audience. I'm glad they took this seriously but I am nervous about the choices they are making to have a live audience. https://deadline.com/2020/10/snl-audience-150-coronavirus-guidelines-new-york-1234592445/- The Politics Thread
Trump looked genuinely repulsive, even by his standards. I was horrified when I saw that orange splatter. So do people think that was taken a few days ago? That self-hating loudmouth Dan Bongino insisted that the stories about the Secret Service being upset were just from one person. That clearly isn't true based on the above story - I imagine many of them are heartbroken. Sorry if this was already posted:- The Ellen DeGeneres Show
She became so cold and passive-aggressive and began shilling so many products. I stopped, for the most part, around 5-6 years ago when she was so unpleasant toward a member of the studio audience because of their Halloween costume.- The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Most TV seems to be down, but I think she has also steadily alienated viewers. Not to be ageist, but I think that (although I don't know Drew's ratings), younger, more likeable women like Drew Barrymore or Kelly Clarkson can't be helping.- All My Children Tribute Thread
Sad news. The Kevin coming out and reparative therapy stories were very memorable - the latter was extremely daring for soaps, and quite powerful. Jorgensen played the role with tenderness and caring. Kevin meant a lot to me, and as a gay teen myself I appreciated his existence. I hope Ben is at peace. - The Doctors Discussion Thread
