EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I've had a hard time getting Peggy's last scenes out of my head, and the double meaning of them. Barbara loved Peggy so much, and got to have a second chance at fame and happiness through Peggy. The scenes now end up feeling like Barbara getting the chance to say goodbye to the character, but also in making sure Peggy did not meet the fate she knew she was facing. I disliked much of what the show did with Peggy in the character's last 10-15 years, but Barbara was such a wonderful dramatic actress when given the chance, alongside her charisma and humor. You could see how much everyone on the show loved her - generations of cast members. The writing for her 2010 exit, as Peggy chose to leave the toxic dynamics she belatedly realized she'd spent so many years reinforcing, was extremely brave (and, unsurprisingly, later forgotten). That's how I will always remember the character.

There's been some talk about how Congresswoman Fudge was hoping to head USDA, and did not want HUD, which is not any particular field of her expertise. Tom Vilsack is getting a lot of blowback from some in the party, although I guess anyone is these days, but Biden seems to have a good relationship with him, which is the main thrust of a lot of his picks. Nina Turner, last seen selling out for K Street after sandbagging Bernie Sanders for 8 years, is likely running for her seat. She has never won a competitive election - not a single one - so hopefully she will be turfed in the primary like her fellow grifters Cenk and Buttar. They don't want people here to get the same idea. Here people aren't even getting simple help with unemployment, let alone stimulus checks - and they know that many will just blame Nancy Pelosi.

Netflix: One Day at a Time
Not a surprise, but sad news. The show ended when it was probably the best it had ever been, but I wish we'd had a finale. I'm sorry that will never happen.

I have to wonder how much was down to the huge tonal shift AW had gone through in the few years before her return. The women had become much flippant and tougher, and the heroines who weren't that way were somewhat wet (from what I've seen of Sally it's mostly Mary Page Keller who made her stand out). Alice was never a bitch goddess type, like Donna, or a plucky heroine like Kathleen, and she had also been aged into a group that the show had trouble writing for. They probably should have taken a much longer time coming up with real story if they wanted to bring Alice back.

Yes. I remember hoping the first actress would work out because she'd had a terribly written role on Homicide as this random woman that Meldrick Lewis just married after deciding he wanted to be married, then she showed up a few times mostly to be shrewish, then they divorced (I came away thinking they were going to make Lewis gay and backed out, but looking back it was probably just down to the horrible time Tom Fontana had writing for female characters). I thought she was OK, if not great, but she never had much of a chance. Victoria Platt was also fine, but I remember feeling she was too positive and likeable to fit the vibe they intended the role to have. The whole thing was clearly not interesting for Rauch or P&G - the epitome of lip service. Even the few moments of tension with Vanessa in the story were just a segueway to the garbage with Vanessa being age-shamed and considering plastic surgery.

This is Nada Rowand, right?

It's a shame she can't play her AW character. I doubt Ron even knows about that.

I agree. I think she was very beautiful on Dynasty and Doctor Who, even if the styling sometimes wasn't there. That was also when she was most clearly confident in her abilities and her star power.

No problem. She never does get enough appreciation so I'm always glad to see other fans. Here's the cover (boy the '70s really were a schizo decade in the UK between the last gasps of BBC English and...this).

The last time Perdue debated. Ossoff made him look like a complete ass. He is probably ahead enough in private polling to not take the risk. Loeffler apparently is not. Sad to say her attacks about socialism will likely be enough to help her win, but Warnock is in such a tough spot, because he can't really fight back without being stereotyped as the angry black man.- Dynasty Discussion Thread

I have little interest in the show at present - the combo of Sonia's death and the dull-as-hell, forced Chloe/Elly saga and just not finding the modern Neighbours to be as compelling (although I do appreciate that they keep bringing people from the past back) - but I love this promo. I've watched it about 6 times. Soaps now are so dull and dour and self-important. This is just fun.- All My Children Tribute Thread

This doesn't really mean anything for the runoff - most of the cultists will still vote for them, but it gave me a good laugh. (Loeffler always looks like she is playing Marie Antoinette in a modern American production - just ridiculous and pathetic phoniness)- All My Children Tribute Thread

I think a pairing could have worked with Jacquie and Douglass, but a triangle with Steve or a quad with Rachel is one of those "soapy" ideas that is better off left to fan fiction.- Another World Discussion Thread
