I never really could figure out who we should root for. I think we were meant to see Tony and Ally as the money couple, but they had little chemistry. Tony and Carla had more chemistry, but I just didn't care about Tony. Danny and Ally had more chemistry than Tony and Ally, but how could anyone get past his role in Casey's death and her accusing him of rape (both of which hung over the characters even in that later period)? Carla and Danny were a "just because" couple, which is rarely worth the watch. The City didn't really have any rooting couples. I do think they had actors who had chemistry, but not a single couple who had been together for more than a month or two (if even that) before the show began. Jacob and Angie were closest, but that's down more to the chemistry between Debbi and Darnell. I also thought Nick and Lorraine had a lot of chemistry, but then he was tangled with Sydney for most of the show's run, wasn't he? I agree about B&E bringing some depth to Loving in places. I will probably always wish it had been done in a different way than slaughtering the Aldens, but I can't deny the strengths of the story.- Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Wow! It has been so so difficult to find any of that era. Even my vague dislike of John O'Hurley won't keep me away. Thank you,- Netflix Unsolved Mysteries
Going through these as I'm not sure how much longer I'll have Netflix. Episode 4, about Alonzo Brooks, is the first where you could really tell they were playing around for TV, as one of his friends told this rambling story to justify why he didn't go back to the party that night. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised to read this was a lot of BS: https://screenrant.com/unsolved-mysteries-alonzo-brooks-murder-missing-information/ Anyway, so far I'm enjoying the show (if enjoying is the right word). I still miss Robert Stack, the trenchcoat, multiple cases an episode, and the sense of cheese, but these types of shows aren't like that anymore due to the true crime/podcast glut. I'm glad they at least kept that iconic theme music. And some of the episodes have done a wonderful job of setting up atmosphere, especially the "house of terror" episode.- Justice League Movie
Not sure if this should go here or not, but not sure where else to put it, especially since the Snyder obsessives have been pushing more than ever about Darkseid, to the point where some were asking them to leave Ava DuVernay alone. This movie not going forward is a pretty clear message that they are moving on from Snyder (even though he was not involved in the film).- The Politics Thread
Loathsome J acob Wohl claimed Gaetz is bisexual. For once I would tend to believe him, mainly in a way in which his interest in allegedly taking advantage of people does not stop at gender.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I saw comments from before this ever started that the bill is going to have a hard time with the House for reasons like the above. I guess we'll see what happens.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

- Harry and Meghan Interview with Oprah
As you said, these conversations were all happening long before everything with Meghan, but she essentially represents a very harsh reminder of how far removed the family is from them, and always will be. Meanwhile, the future of the monarchy is being represented by conveniently timed PR articles about William being the sexiest bald man...- The Politics Thread
It's awfully convenient that the press release tsk-tsks happen AFTER the bill has been passed and signed. As @Khanwould say, too much, too little, too late.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Gaetz was the one vote against human trafficking legislation. No wonder.- The Politics Thread
https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/30/politics/major-biden-dog-white-house/index.html Not exactly the most important news story of the day, but this is what I was wary of with bringing those dogs back to the White House. It's a stressful environment, it's not fair on them.- Another World Discussion Thread

The fat, ugly drunk who has a very disturbing relationship with his "son" may be moving from one attention whore platform to another. If he is, then this is even more embarrassing for deadenders like Ro Khanna who would yuk it up with him in the name of "bipartisanship."- The Politics Thread
@Vee I saw that poll and I got really irritated - the framing of the gun question is mostly just irresponsible and lazy to me. It does take into account that much of the disappointment is on how many people want gun control but know nothing is going to happen.- Another World Discussion Thread
- Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
Thanks, @safe . Thank goodness for Helen Gallagher. She's right - given that Michael played a key role in the death of her unborn grandchild, Maeve would never be able to have small talk with him. I suppose it was hoity-toity for the actors in the Ryan family to resent their involvement, but given how repulsive Michael and Kimberley were as characters and the damage Kimberley's story did to the show, I can't really blame them.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

I would agree with you on that front. What I'm saying is I think that aspect of the relationship had already been phased out by Marland even with HBS and Marx in the parts and would have just continued more down that path with the future stories he had planned for the couple. I don't believe he had much interest in a sexy or flirty Tom and Margo, and if he did, he lost that element of his writing more with each passing year.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I do very much prefer Gregg Marx as Tom, but I tend to put more blame on Marland than on Scott Holmes or Ellen Dolan for taking the spark out of Tom and Margo. I'd actually say it's the incredibly heavy material in 1986 that does this even while HBS and Marx are still in the role - it's a world away from how feisty and fun the couple were able to be under the previous regimes, even in stories like Margo losing her hearing. Once you go through a late-term miscarriage, it's difficult to return to being the bantering couple. The stories Marland had lined up regardless of whoever played Tom (Margo running off because she was carrying Hal's child, Tom learning that he was a father of a teenage daughter from his stint in Vietnam) only furthered the divide. I think Holmes and Dolan managed to make Tom and Margo seem relateable and mostly good-natured, believable in banter and married-with-kids-and-jobs life, until the backbreakingly heavy material returned again with Margo's rape and HIV. Then Dolan left and nothing ever really recovered. - Loving/The City Discussion Thread
