ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
The one and only Bonnie Bartlett, whom I will always associate with a highly annoying character on St. Elsewhere (I say that with love), has written an autobiography. Headlines have been generated due to her writing about a "painful" open marriage. Interestingly this time would have included her time on Love of Life (and an affair she had with an actor was in 1959, the year she left that show). I wonder if she writes anything about LOL in the book. https://people.com/tv/wife-of-boy-meets-world-william-daniels-devastated-by-open-relationship-early-in-marriage/

The biggest problem with the writing for Josh was that most of the time he was written as a sanctimonious [!@#$%^&*] and not much else. There were times they tried different roles for him, like when he decided to become a minister, but mostly he was only there to judge. That March 1988 episode was a reminder of how much Pam Long understood the Reva/Josh relationship (given that she created it) in a way later writers didn't. Later writers had Reva obsessing and striving and Josh being shut down and cold, while it should have been both of them in mutual toxicity. The scene at the end of that episode where Josh tells his pregnant wife that if Reva dies, he will never get over it, is truly a disturbing moment, and to the show's credit, it's treated as such. There is an honesty you got less and less of in GL's last two decades.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Thanks. The more we hear about the Buffy set the more I regret ever watching it. I've seen comments about the AMC set too but she never really talks much about that (and I guess people don't care, beyond the Lucci feud). When SMG tries, she's very talented, I just don't know if she picks the right projects. Jeff Davis is a hack. I wish her luck though. I also love the boots she has on in those photos.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I saw that there was some ugliness on Twitter where a Carly fan said she was so upset that if she saw Cynthia Watros in the street she'd punch her in the face. She even tagged Watros. Watros, as well as Laura Wright, responded, and the tweet is now gone. Even as the soaps are in their death throes, the remaining fans are so often the worst of society.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I feel like this has been the case with Crossroads for a long time - it's mostly seen as a joke, just those who are fans are passionate about pointing out the positives. And as you said, the only way more gets through to the public is if a big name like RTD has something to say. Unfortunately, in this case, that seems to just be Helena Botham Carter doing her drag act yet again.- Recovering lost films and TV shows

LaSalle is likely another judge in the vein of those who struck down maps that would have helped Democrats keep the House. I can see now why many on the left don't care for Jeffries.- Crossroads
Even if the trailer doesn't look very good, the article is very much worth a read. RTD always has intelligent comments to make about soaps and their value.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

There's been a movement among some in the industry (I've seen a lot of tweets from Frances Fisher - others like Meredith Viera and Dule Hill seemed to just cut and paste tweets) to try to get attention for Andrea Riseborough, which has led to some amusing takes. This is one based on Kate Winslet saying it's the best film performance she's ever seen by an actress.- Crossroads

She was a wonderful actress, and that's just in the flat material I've seen of her last few years as Pat. AW made a huge mistake getting rid of her. She would have easily fit into the more chic '80s Bay City. A part of me wishes they'd tried pairing her with Mac, instead of going for Mac/Alice. Imagine Cecile's reaction to that.- Another World Discussion Thread
I think many of these decisions were based on Lemay's hubris, rather than just wanting to promote Victoria Wyndham. He wasn't close to Jacqueline Courtney the way he was to Susan Sullivan, Victoria, or Constance Ford, and he and Rauch arrogantly assumed she could be replaced. He also seemingly assumed a number of theater actors he had take big roles on the show would stay long-term. This led to a rot where Victoria was one of the only popular actresses who was staying long-term. And as the canvas was so empty, that made it even easier for P&G to run through dumping based on ageism, like what happened to Beverly Penberthy. As for Beverlee, wasn't she burnt out of playing Iris the way she had to play her and just burnt out at AW, period? One of the best parts of Lemay's 1988 return was that he wrote her much more aggressively - there's a fantastic scene which is probably not on Youtube where Rachel icily cuts Liz out of the family after she blurts out to Matt the truth about his conception.- Another World Discussion Thread
Fans pointed this out at the time. The show's response was to claim Cecile and Cass had had some hookup on the Continent, or something, before that point...although it later turned out Cecile was lying anyway. Great writing all around.- Couples That Dominated and then Disappeared
There are many examples of this, but one that comes to mind quickly is Tess and Bill on Love of Life, who got a ton of press, and I think maybe even records, but were both completely off the show a few years later, never to return.- Knots Landing
Oh that's right - "poor Val." I think that story was not great in the long term, but certainly a strong set of scenes for a finale. - Guiding Light Discussion Thread
