ALL: They Almost Became
It surprises me too. I can't see him as Clint (although I can't see anyone but CR as Clint) but he would have been good on Y&R.

Thanks again. It does sound interesting. So was that the end of Doreen's story? What would you have done with her? Do you think Jessie and Mike would have worked? I don't know anything about Shearin's Mike. I guess he was right after Assante. This was what I posted a few months ago on that Geraldine Court item.

I thought you'd like those two scans...Deas was OK too but I agree Marx was the hottest (at least of the Toms we actually saw onscreen), especially when he had a hairy chest and the beard. I wish we'd seen a little more of Klein's tenure. What I remember was dumb, like the racism story, but I also liked some of the stuff, such as David/Emily.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think they had already fired Lisa Brown by this time hadn't they? I don't remember it being a big story either. I did like Jason, and I was glad to see Iva leave on a good note, but I was so annoyed at Holden taking Aaron from her and at her leaving the show that it really burned me. Yeah the article is kind of sad to read, although I think the only big mistakes that team made were with Shannon, and overusing Rosanna, and the really bad idea to recast Linc with that wooden and not overly attractive actor, then push Connor into a dull murder mystery. I have always been annoyed by the huge change at ATWT in 1995 because I never felt like the show was in that awful of shape. Over and over, hacks like Black and Stern, Sheffer, Passanante, Goutman, and then those who are talented but just not suited for the show, like Broderick and FMB, kept trying to fix what wasn't broken. Times changes, but ATWT could have adapted itself - as it had done many times before - and thrived. There is no reason why the show is still not on today. The part about their ATWT being similar to Marland's style just makes me wonder, as people have speculated on before, how much longer Marland could have stayed at ATWT even if he hadn't passed away. I wish we knew. I think his ATWT was still better than anything which came after but the last year or two did have some flaws, mostly in the new characters. Of course people have said he was leaving anyway.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Thank for you letting us know about this. I remember Bryan seeming fairly confident when he was at Hollyoaks - he really seems so scared all the time now. I keep thinking back to when Louise Berridge talked about how she was hounded during her tenure as producer until she was near a breakdown. Perhaps that's just the way he is, I don't know. I read a comment at DS that said he should be more charismatic. That's not really his job. DTC and Santer were very fond of the camera but the show still became a mess. I'm glad someone is now saying, even if it's after the fact, that having Ronnie in MORE misery after 3 years was not the best idea. I was glad at the manner in which he defended the Syed/Christian bed scene, and also that someone mentioned the dumb Roxy money story. I know he didn't give anything away but I don't care about hearing a lot of stuff anyway. I hear all kinds about Corrie and the show is unwatchable.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
This is from an October 1993 Soap Opera Update. I had forgotten they took publicity photos of Glynis O'Connor's Margo with Tom and Hal together. It's a nice reminder of how special the Margo/Hal relationship was, at least until it and the Margo character started really losing their way in the mid-90's.

That's neat. When in 1978 is that from? (or early 1979)

I hadn't seen that before. Is that Eden at the end? February 20, 1990 Digest.

Thanks. I guess Kim may have dated him, as I remember her being out with someone in the summer 1984 episodes that are on Youtube, but I don't remember hearing anything about Fairchild and Barbara.

Those are great. I was reading a late 1983 Digest, close to the end of the year, and for ATWT news, they mention John Phillip Law arriving as Reed, who would be in a triangle with Lyla and Maggie. We'd talked about that before. They also mentioned Leon Russom as Zachary, child psychiatrist, who would get involved with Kim, and Norman Snow, as "mysterious" Richard Fairchild, III, who would fall in love with Barbara and also have a story with John. Did all this happen?

No, she hasn't. I think she aged pretty well - even about ten or fifteen years ago when they did one of those Dukes of Hazzard reunion movies, I thought she looked as good as Catherine Bach, or a little better.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
We will probably get to early 1978, at least, so that covers the end of Kate Mulgrew. I like some of the material now, it's just some is so draining (Jack/Mary) and other material is full of the whole "This couple are fated to be and Delia is stopping them" stuff that I kind of roll my eyes at. I always thought the show should have really gone for Pat/Dee, since he only had chemistry with one Faith, and that was when they weren't really together. I also liked Jill and Seneca. It's a shame that had to end so badly.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
I've heard about her teaching speech - what did they think of her? I hope she knows how many fans she gained when her RH run started on Soapnet. I hope she also knows she even made the We Love Soaps top 50 actresses list. http://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/01/50-greatest-soap-actresses-36-sarah.html There was something so real and honest in her performances. She was a very fearless actress. She also had effortless chemistry with everyone. I still can't believe ABC let her go.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
Thanks so much for reading them, and commenting! I type all that up but sometimes wonder if it just seems like blather. I'm glad you enjoyed. It's been almost 10 years for me as well. Actually I think it HAS been ten years. I remember it was a few months before 9/11. My first episodes were when Siobhan (the real Siobhan) arrived, with her leg in a cast, and Finn McCool. I loved her from the start. I'm not a huge fan of the stuff currently on RH, so watch sporadically, but I'm trying to stay attached, since this is it. If they just make it a few more years, somehow, then they will surpass their ABC run. And all on only half the show's episodes. I just hope this has helped the careers of the actors. I think it probably has, somewhat - I've always wondered if one of the reasons Ilene got OLTL was her RH glory being broadcast again. BTW, if there are any particular actors you want to see interviews from please let me know.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Louise left the first time because she wanted more storyline. She said she didn't realize, as this was her first soap, that you often have periods of downtime. She was also outspoken about stuff she didn't care for (like feeding Laken her pet pigeon), which probably didn't help.

The Politics Thread
Media darling "T-Paw" fumbles when trying to explain why he uses "Obamneycare." Presumably he felt that he needed to go back to being nice. The real question is why he came up with a dumbass line like "Obamneycare" in the first place, since most people already associate the two without a cloying catchphrase. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/56904.html Minnesota will still be represented by another media darling, the ever-extreme Michelle Bachmann, who is the media's chance to get the Sarah Palin they wanted.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
A November 1973 Afternoon TV says that "several months ago" Diana Walker had to abruptly replace Jacquie Courtney for a day due to Jacquie's daughter being hospitalized. I'm not sure if this was the appearance listed as 1974 or if she returned to replace Jacquie again in 1974.

Would this have been Doug Marland? Or DePriest? I guess this was after Mike was widowed? I do wonder if they considered Ann. In 1978, I think it was 1978, Geraldine Court was one of the actors who said she would never want to go back to the show because of writing which offended her. It's certainly a very interesting story which has someone believing they are terminally ill and then when they learn they aren't they're still unhinged and plot this ghoulish plan to get what they want.

The Tracy Quartermaine Lovefest
If she's going to stir things up then I can see her having some conflict with Tracy. Unless this means she's going to tell Sam she isn't good enough for Jason or whatever. Years ago I used to complain about all the "It's my house" stuff but if it led to some fun comedy I wouldn't mind seeing some of the bickering again.
