It's a shame soaps don't know how to do this now. I guess you heard that Haila Stoddard passed away in February. I didn't realize until I was reading some magazines that they eventually recast Aunt Grace. Did that bother you, or you didn't notice?

Yes he's good. I get caught up in his story, especially with the strange discussions he has with Rocket and the journalist or drug counselor. That guy is an interesting character too. Do you remember him? Apparently he was interested in Susan? All of this seems so daring for soaps at the time. Do you remember anything of Donna Mills or was she on when you weren't watching?

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. I'm always finding SS articles but end up being too lazy to post them. If/when I do, then I can PM you if you want to read them. It was interesting to me how Amy seemed to be such a central heroine even at such a young age. The show was ahead of its time in that way. When I read interviews with Jada around the time she returned in 1973 she seemed to be very outspoken and free and so on. Did that translate in her work onscreen? One thing I really liked in the 1967 episode was the casual way they worked in prayer, without seeming heavy-handed.

I'm so glad you got to see this. I knew you hadn't been here much this year so I wasn't sure you were still able to get e-mails. As soon as I saw this on Youtube I knew you'd want to watch. You're right, the organ music is effective. The theme is also very soothing and draws you in. I like how understated the wardrobe is and the emotions too - it seems so adult; people are actually having conversations. Was Amy married to Nic Coster at this time? I felt strongly about the guy who was hooked on heroin. I wonder what happened to him.

Thanks. Was one of Cruz's relatives in the story about Hayley being run over? I thought she might have been the girl who was backhanded by her boyfriend/the killer. I was also going to ask - if I already have my apologies, I forget these things - what you thought of Courtney Capwell. All I generally know of her or reaction to her was someone writing a letter to Diva Von Dish saying she and her story and relationship were boring and cliched.

I wish I could see Savage. She sounds interesting, and quite different from Christine. It also seems like she and Clay had more of a grand passion type of love than they did when Christine was in the role. Did you know Savage was only 13 months older than the last guy who played Rick Alden?

I don't see a need to kill Bianca. I don't miss her that much, mostly because she was so isolated and Santer turned her return into months of her shouting at Ian and throwing fits in restaurants, but the character does have some long-running and moving relationships, with Carol, Whitney, Pat, among others. If Patsy won't return then just have her stay out of Walford and have the kids shuffled back and forth. I don't know if Ricky would work without her but I'd give it a try.

No, but this is an area the show has been trying with for years, especially since Dennis left. There have been so many misfires (Deano, Callum, Danny). So in that area, Ryan seemed popular, even if he wasn't exactly a dynamic presence.

I wonder if he really did want to leave or if they wrote him out. Perhaps he and his wife want out of the limelight? Ryan is a jerk and not exactly exciting, but he's also the only beefcake they have. Maybe they think the new Moons will replace him.

It's always tough for me to recall that when I started watching ATWT, Margo and Tom had a lot of fun, romantic, silly scenes. At the time, I greatly enjoyed them. A thread for Kitty Foyle, the short-lived daytime soap based on the film Ginger Rogers won an Oscar for. A radio version had run from 42-44. According to Chris Schemering's book, for publicity the producers went on a lengthy talent hunt, involving over 200 actresses, before casting Kathleen Murray. Kitty wasn't introduced until five weeks into the show's run (which makes no sense to me and I wonder if that's why the show didn't last longer). When the show failed, Variety blamed the weak scripts and was surprised, considering that Carleton E. Morse (of One Man's Family) was the headwriter. The show was produced by Charles Irving, directed by Hal Cooper, and packaged by Henry Jaffee Enterprises. The show opened with location shots of downtown Philly. It aired on NBC at 2:30 PM EST. The run was January 13-June 27, 1958. It always amazes me when I hear "Corrie is the comedy soap" and "Corrie isn't depressing like Eastenders." The only comedy on the show now is ugly putdowns. If it's not more depressing it's because the show never commits to telling any story all the way through - they will always skip most of the aftermath and most of the buildup, because it's easier to have the same half-dozen scenes again and again, followed by a week of hysteria, followed by nothing.
