  4. I'm surprised they even won two. Brendan has been on the show over a year, I don't know how he's a newcomer. Dodger is about as sexy as Jack Osborne. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTSlnbbZ5gE
  5. You should see the ones from the '70s. They get progressively more brisk as the years go by. I know at this time ATWT was starting to address intimacy, which seems to have not been addressed in the bedroom romp type of way before 1978 or 1979. The Dobsons seemed to like to write about repressed lust and how it damages a psyche - Amanda had that story on GL. Reading it I get the implication that Dee was a "good" girl who paid a price for her moments of lust (the later one where she wanted Brad and mistakenly had sex with John, leading to the rape trial, and then this with Ian), and Melinda, who was naughty, pays with a brutal death. But it may not have happened that way onscreen. I've seen so little of Dee - her screaming at John's murder trial (I can never remember if that was Schultz or Vicky Dawson), a few clips with James, and then that mid-1981 episode where both Annie and Dee seem so matronly compared to Lisa and Kim. I know Schultz was popular in the role, and had a lot of story until her last months (lack of story is one of the reasons she said she left). It's hard for me to know how to react to her. I guess this type of heroine was just par for the course. At least they handled her better than a lot of recent soap ingenues.
  6. Yes it was her. If anyone wants to see more of 1980 I have a few - I don't want to post anything Paul Raven's posting or already posted, so just let me know.
  7. It looks like Mary McDonnell, later known for Dances With Wolves, BSG, etc. played a Claudia Colfax in 1980. Tom Everett played a Ray Colfax. No matter how many times I read about the Ian stuff it seems a little tacky to me, something that was effectively parodied on Dynasty with Cecil Colby. I guess I'd have to actually watch it to get a better judge.
  8. Here's one from April 22, 1980.
  9. 9/75 TV Radio Mirror Names being considered for Ryan's Hope were Ed Kemmer (ex-Ben Grant, Somerset) as the chief resident. Con Roche (ex-Rick Ryan, ATWT) was also rumored for a role. Another rumor was that William Gray Espy would join the show after leaving Y&R.

  11. Poor Mark - look, there was even a space for him beside Marissa.
  12. Well I got the gender right. It would be nice if PP thought about hiring Michael Storm.
  13. Thank you very much. I guess they planned the story with scheming doctor and nurse out from the beginning. Didn't Larry also go on trial for Karen's murder? Talk about no luck.
  14. What was this Ted Hale's story on the show? The photo is a few years old - it's used in a 1965 article on A Time For Us.
  15. It's always shocking to me how they got away with Raven's bad parenting, from leaving her baby alone for hours to go see a movie, to leaving the baby with a drunk sitter. I'm not sure if she was ever really "punished" for it either. In some of the 1979 episodes she's a little too dumb but by 1980 she's reaching her best - it's especially refreshing that she has these relationships with so many men at once. I'm surprised they had Logan and April fall into a romance so quickly. I guess this is when Jody was still supposed to be a bad girl.
  16. I wonder why they wrote Laurie out for so long, although I guess the show didn't really suffer her absence. Watching the mid-1979 episodes, I'm impressed by what a nice presence Mandel Kramer is. He's more than a competent actor, he doesn't seem in any way doddery or weak, as some of the older P&G vets did when they were phased out, he works very well with Steve and Calvin and Deborah, and he's a handsome enough man for his age. I know he probably had a fairly high salary compared to a lot of the others but I wish they'd kept him on in some capacity, perhaps as mayor or something.
  17. Thanks so much for the interview. It's great. What an incredible writer he is. Watching the episodes on Youtube I'm so impressed, over and over, by just how good they are on every level. I wonder why they didn't just recast Timmy and keep him around in the background. I think they were wrong about Lois Kibbee. I think she was on Edge first as Geraldine, then the story ended, Slesar put her on Somerset, and then after her Somerset story ended they brought Geraldine back.
  18. I never knew the exact circumstances of her death. That's a horrible way to die, especially since her death provided story mostly for a very weak character (Brad). I wish they hadn't killed her off. The show didn't exactly have a ton of dynamic younger ladies at this point, and she had ties to such core characters.
  19. Out Here On My Own. Irene Cara just breaks your heart with that song... I saw a video of Darren Criss doing "It's Not Unusual" and it was so bland. If not for the whole raging bigot thing I would think this was a homage to Pat Boone. He reminds me so much of Pat Boone.
  20. Ugh I read that they're going to have a song from Fame. My favorite song from Fame, as a matter of fact. Please don't put songs from Fame on this Autotune blando. That dismal flop of a remake was bad enough.
  21. Fun little commercial announcing the new Jack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wQAjasS5Cg
  22. I didn't have much of an opinion on Michael until that storyline where he was a secret spy (please), broke Donna's heart, and then was outraged to learn of her affair with Jake. It was an ugly story, having Stacey take their child away and then having Michael hook up with her. It made Michael look horrible and Stacey even worse.
