What did your mother think of Rachel? The scenes did move slowly. I think this worked more often than not - the stalling for Marianne not to leave the diner - but sometimes it cracked me up (the recap and the lost phone connection before Brian found out about how John died). It was a mistake to get rid of John, as far as I can tell. As much as I like Brian, you'd think he would have been a better choice if someone had to go. I'm not sure why anyone did. Apparently they just wanted a shock death since they were expanding to 90 minutes. That's bad planning. From what I've seen of the actor on Another Life, he was very talented. I like this Marianne. I wonder why she left. I wonder if they decided it made better story for Liz to be on her own and just meddle in Jim's life.

What a joke. No one cares about helping the economy. All they want to do is yell TAX CUT! and point fingers at the other side. The Republicans know that the worse things get the better off they are, and the Democrats just seem inept and beholden. What an embarrassment this is. And as always it's the poor and the middle class who will pay for this, all while being told how greedy and worthless they are. http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/21/politics/super-committee/?hpt=hp_t1

This episode has some more glimpses of the fallout of the Adam paternity lie. We seem to be moving backwards towards that date, so hopefully we'll get it at some point. It's rare to see Nancy and Barbara have a scene on their own. Lisa disagreeing openly with Nancy is even more rare - too bad the scene wasn't carried further. More filling in on the exits of the Franklins. Too bad they didn't do more with Nella. Lucinda buzzing around in every story, as she always did at her best. Hal's father comes across so malevolently in his first scene - you only see his head, the rest of him is in darkness. It's very good. The best parts for me involved Ellen and David. This is the closest to a story Ellen had in the later years. It's great to see Pat Bruder and Henderson Forsythe getting a chance to really act. And mentions of Judge Lowell, and even Ellen's father. Probably the last mentions of them. I guess they thought it would be easier if they implied that Ellen and David met young and fell in love and had kids, instead of mentioning that he was already married, had a child with his wife, his wife then died, eventually he and Ellen married. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfgPAaotJao- Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread

From Rona Barrett Daytimers: Vince Bagetta and Jane Manning, during their LIAMST run as Peter Chernak and Jean Garrison, hated each other. During a rehearsal, they had to kiss, and suddenly Jane pushed herself away from him and told him "stop pawing me!" She walked off angrily. After that they barely spoke to each other.- Primetime Soaps

From saynotoursoap. I always thought this was the first 90 minute episode. Apparently it was the second. This is one of the rare chances to see a 90 minute soap. For me the highlight of this is the Vivian/Iris stuff (although some of the work from the Matthews family is moving - the best for me is Liz and Jim). It fits right in because I have an article about 90 minute AW that I'm going to post when I find it. Another pleasure in the Vivian/Iris stuff is the blatant padding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5oRJZ0zggQ- Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman Discussion thread

From saynotoursoap, something to be thankful for. It's really nice to finally see Grace Tyrell (all that was around was the audio of her). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI637pvq5BU- Love of Life Discussion Thread
A wonderful treat from saynotoursoap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R03mhsqalBQ Lots of nice stuff in here. Good to know more about Meg's husband and Ben's father - I didn't know he was mentally ill. Was he ever on the show? I love how natural the scene with Ellie and Van is, even with heavy recap, and a story I don't understand (Speed the narcotics agent and some bad man named Bernie, and Van's true love Alex Crown - anyone know more about this?). This is also an example of how you can do a soap on a budget. Everything with Van and Ellie works so well and you don't sit there and think "cheap cheap cheap."- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
That's an incredible scene. The music is superb, and Marcy is at her best. She is such a direct, forceful actress, but always with the vulnerability within reach. So many layers. I can remember now why, even though I rarely watched SB at the time it was on, I had strong memories of Eden. I was reading yesterday that when SB started, Lynn Herring auditioned to play Kelly. How do you think she would have been?- The Politics Thread

So would I. It's rare for soaps to hire deaf actors - the only long-running one was Amy Ecklund on GL. I wish we could see Linda's work on SFT. She went on to have a good run on Sesame Street.- Return To Peyton Place Discussion Thread
