ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
There seems to be a lot of hate for the movie...while I don't hate it, I can't say that this plastic look does a lot for me, with the guys in this movie. I find Bomer more attractive on White Collar. (and he was very hot on GL).

It's too bad they wasted Christopher Cazenove and Kate O'Mara.

The Politics Thread
Tonight is the special election for Gabby Giffords' seat in Congress. The Democrat, Ron Barber, is poised to win (in spite of a poor campaign), but that's just on polling, and polling House districts is difficult. Meanwhile, gun violence has returned to ads. http://2012.talkingp...s-campaigns.php Mitt Romney won't say whether he will go after cops, firefighters, and teachers if elected. I take that to mean, "Yes." http://www.kvor.com/...itemid=29862136 He actually has a long history against firefighters. http://www.alternet....n_firefighters/ Remember how our liberal media friends told us that Romney was a very, very special moderate, and he was just pretending as long as he was in primary mode? He is, if anything, even more far right now, and our liberal media friends love every minute of it.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I didn't have a problem with Kim befriending people, if she kept them in their place, as I feel she did with Katie and Molly at times (although she should have been more upset with Molly for hurting Andy and sleeping with Chris). I don't have a problem with Kim disliking Susan, but the Kim I knew was not going to sit around and bicker like she'd just gotten in from an episode of Roseanne.

Eric did you get to see the We Love Soaps interview (video interview) with Ben Jorgensen/Monk?

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
For me it wasn't about the man as much as it was about me not believing that Kim would be so snappy and rude. It felt grafted onto her, just another generic Sheffer bittercake. I think Kim was a character who tried to take the high road at all times, unless she was truly enraged.

John Edwards. He didn't get the nomination, but he was seen as a serious contender. I guess you could say it was five years, not two, but it was still first term, and he had less of a political background than Obama.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I know they'll never be able to go back to the Santer-era promos (the BBC cutbacks), but that's not too bad. I like how they have Jean looking on for so much of the promo, although it feels a little like Janine is an afterthought.

I never liked the bickering between them in later years. I thought it was beneath both characters, especially Kim.

The Politics Thread
I think that comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson because both were black was racist. Clinton made the conversation all about himself. That's what made many people wary. Clinton was always in the middle of drama. He still is, even when out of elected office. It was tiring. I'm sure that Obama's race did get him some votes, but Obama trailed Hillary in polls for almost a year until she started to make mistakes. It was her campaign flaws and her husband's mouth that started Obama on the way forward. Beyond that, Obama was a fresh face, and charismatic. I never liked John Edwards. He reminded me of a used car salesman. The smarmy smirk.

The Politics Thread
Based on the campaign Hillary was running until she ran aground, I think she probably would have done the same poll-tested, can't-we-be-friends stuff Obama did. That was the essence of Mark Penn. Democrats in power always believe Republicans are their special, forever friends. Even Bill Clinton still feels that way.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Bwahaha, Dorian and Blair laughing and doing the "loser" sign at Nora is just priceless. I also love how Addie was so quickly integrated into the story. Unfortunately these few positive moments on OLTL would soon be gone and never return. Hunt Block was such a trailblazer - smacking gum and shrugging through all his scenes. He must have been a real inspiration to TSJ and Michael Easton.

Was that playful? I thought they were friendly.

Any Capitol Fans Here?
Daytime TV September 1982 and August 1983.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I remember Easy Street, vaguely. NBC had a bad time with that one timeslot on the night (I can't remember what eventually filled it). I also remember the sitcom where the opening was a family washing a car.

Any Capitol Fans Here?
SFK if you're going to be here then I had a few Capitol articles I wanted to ask you if you've already read - the main one is a Daytime TV article from 1982 which interviews Carolyn and Constance. They talk a little about when they first met, in the 50's.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Jessie was apparently on El Dorado long ago. I guess we can just claim this is a nod to Julia Smith...

ALL: Temporary Replacements
She sounds like Tracey. She does look like Florencia. She also played on Texas. Does anyone know how long Margaret Barker was Grace on Secret Storm? I didn't realize until now that she took over when Marjorie Gateson had a stroke (October 1969). IMDB says that she left sometime in 1970. Barker's most memorable soap role must have been the hip, with-it grandmother on Lovers and Friends. Don't forget about New WKRP, which probably killed off that genre for good.

What did you think of the show? It doesn't sound like they gave much of a chance.

When was Sarah around? Why did Karl and Susan break up this time? The emotional cheating?

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I put a clip of this episode a few weeks ago but I didn't realize this was the episode where Kim confronted Janice. I loved this story and especially the ending. I thought ATWT was picking up quite a bit at this time. I'm sorry that all the potential was junked for dreadful Valente and Black/Stern. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvQFm9XsZ-c&feature=autoplay&list=ULg0RFc232paQ&playnext=5
