Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I'll just post the first part. The sound quality is a lot better than some other episodes from this uploader, so you may enjoy this. I was barely watching at this time, in large part because of huge bores like Sid. Did he start the fire or not? I can't remember. Love Vivian! I also had a soft spot for Gabriella (probably the only one who did). Was Deas still doing the dem dese dose accent at this time?

There was a sad anecdote in, I think, Esquire, from a huge Scott Walker fan, who retired from the post office because they cut down to a three day work week. He was supporting Walker because he was furious that his sister-in-law, a teacher, got free dental care. He said no one deserves free health care. This is what America has become. It's not about succeeding - it's about punishing others to make sure they also have no chance.

Today they'd probably have Jill and Peter in an incestuous affair. (which might have made sense...) I think they should have brought in someone new for Gary, or brought Abby back.

Looks like Walker will win big. Not sure what was going on with the exits. Maybe someone wanted to laugh at Democrats. Once again money, and hate for those evil teachers and federal workers, wins out.

Exit polls claim the WI recall gov race is 50-50, but so far early results favor Walker. We'll see what happens.

I agree with that, but I felt like they just did that as a joke (she put up with a bad man, so she's a lesbian). They were ahead of their time, I guess... I never understood why they paired Gary/Kate. It just felt like "these characters have no other story left." If they hadn't demolished Claudia when she killed her son, I would have paired them up.

Tonight is the big night in Wisconsin. The recall Gov. Walker campaign ends, as do lt. governor and a number of state senate races. Due either to Democratic ineptitude, fatigue, or both, along with big GOP $$$, Walker and the other Republicans are likely to win. California and New Jersey are having primaries, some very bitter due to gerrymandering throwing incumbents together. California no longer has the traditional primary system, and instead does "top two vote getters." They will be on the ballot in November. The most interesting of these may be Pete Stark, 80 years old, in office for many a decade, explosive, atheist, fiery, in a very ugly battle with a 31 year old up and comer who has repeatedly accused Stark of lying about him and his campaign.

I wish they could ignore the scene where Meg watched the tape.

Can we at least bring Ginger back as a lesbian?

I wonder if Nicolette could even play Paige now.

Has WLS ever done an interview with Elaine Princi? I thought the biggest feedback was for the most recent material, so I'm glad that it was also some 80's. I think ATWT of the 80's is just some of the finest soap ever - not always the most exciting, which may hurt sales, but great quality. I guess it may be one of those things which you'd have to watch day-to-day, whereas some ATWT you might just jump into and enjoy (I know many felt that way about Sheffer's run).

ANOTHER WORLD EPISODE 60 CLIFFHANGER FRIDAY Mystery patient revealed!
Well I definitely wasn't expecting that! The conflict between the twins over Carl is also fascinating, and built up nicely, just in time for his return. Nice pacing.

ANOTHER WORLD EPISODE 59 Frankie's world is turned upside down
Great chapter. I love this line: Nicole: In name only, because there’s no LOVE lost here. I do think Reginald would speak a little more properly. Great scenes though, very tense. I just realized the start of the credits reminds me of the old Unsolved Mysteries theme. Fantastic cliffhanger!

Remember when you could see acting like this on a soap every day? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_AoWnH6kIM

The story was ridiculous, but I liked the performances, and getting to see Alex running the mob. I do wonder where it would have gone if Mortimer had stayed around.

I love it (they could even do the whole story where she falls for Bobby for real). The show does need more diversity - I thought the show did a good job with Frank and the daughter (poor Pat - poor Lynne Moody), but something can always improve. At the very least I hope it's better than the cheap tokenism at Desperate Housewives (oh look, a gay couple!). I'm glad we won't ever have to hear, "We were the original Desperate Housewives" again.

I'd like to see that too, as long as they don't make it like that Melrose Place remake. To be honest I'm not sure I'd want to see most of the old group again; I think they had a thorough run. I might like seeing the twins, and their big sister Lucy popping in to interfere in their lives, and them bitching at Gary and Val over the phone to sort her out. Of the final cast members the one I'd only really want to see again is Abby, and then Anne. I'd also like to see Greg find Laura, but I doubt that would happen. I wouldn't mind seeing Ben again either.

Those first few years (especially the time with Alex in 92) were great, the rest never should have happened. I wonder what upset Thom Christopher with the Mortimer story.

We can thank Canada for that ad. I thought Tad came back in 1993 but I guess the return must have been built up starting late 92? I like how seriously everything is taken in that ad. No overdramatic narration or fake campy "soapy" crap. Just a character and a story.

You'd think that some of the early 80's insanity of James might get some sales - if the episodes cover the bullring, amusement park, et al.

Knots Landing
I don't think we'll ever see a Knots revival, as it wasn't the big cultural phenom Dallas or Dynasty were. I'd love to see Donna Mills on something.
