Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I was reading a Doug Marland interview from late 1980, and he talked a little about his plans for GL. They included some that I know happened, and some like a Jennifer/Mike romance (did that happen?). He also said Sara would get romance, which I don't think happened. He said he really wanted to do more with Sara and Bert. I hate that P&G forced Milette Alexander out.

GH: Classic Thread
I was reading a Doug Marland interview from late 1980, and he talked some about GH. This is probably all known but basically: - He said one of the first things he did was clarify the relationship between Alan and Monica, because they spent most of their time talking about helicopter runs. He said there was an obvious sexual attraction, so he had them become lovers. - When he watched the show before taking over, he didn't understand why no one walked. He wondered if they had no legs. - He didn't think Jessie had enough story, so he put her in with Bobbie. He liked the actor who played Dan Rooney, so kept him around for the romance with Jessie. - He wanted to bring Tracy in, but the network resisted. They had him bring in the whole family (I guess he means Edward and Lila). He felt the show really needed Tracy. He also praised Susan (middle-class bitch) and Bobbie (lower-class bitch). - He felt that the show's women mostly had flaws (I guess he meant the younger women), so he brought in Anne, who was perfect, to be an ingenue. - He said he regretted not ending the Heather baby saga when he took over the show. He felt it was plot-driven and forced. Viewers were torn over whether Heather or Diana should have the baby. In order to make them want Diana keep the baby, he had Steve disapprove of Jeff's marriage to Heather. He felt that viewers saw Steve as their voice, and if he disliked Heather, they would too. - He said he added the story about Monica's relationship with Gail's husband (didn't he rape her?) because he felt the relationship between Monica and Gail lacked definition.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Yeah, they do a lot of work. I feel bad because I don't have any great desire to see any of the GL episodes of that era again, but they put in a ton of effort.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Someone on Youtube who uploads GL episodes from the 90s said in a comments section a day or two ago that they're friends with Frank Beaty (ex-Brent Lawrence) and he's left the business and is an organic farmer.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I was shocked that they even had a funeral the last time, as we'd gone through this before and it was obvious he'd be back soon. I remember just being thrilled to see Seth again, as he was one of my favorite characters. I liked the idea of showing an actual church, even if it was completely empty, but it just didn't work. I wish that ATWT and GL had been able to try that approach with a much bigger budget, and without a hack like Goutman.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I'm not entirely sure whether they were setting Kim up as repressing her emotions and breaking down later on, or if they were just trying to show serenity. I thought her emotion in her scene with Bob was very genuine. I always want to know how viewers at that point in time felt about Kim and Bob. If they wanted them to be together, or if they still thought it was wrong. I've always wondered if one of the reasons Kim and Bob never really had popular relationships with people in the 80s was because of viewers wanting them together, or if it was just other things (the Nick story seems a little OOC for Kim, and most of Bob's love interests seemed to suck).

The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
As time went on I began to appreciate her loyalty to people (even when they hadn't necessarily earned it), her strength, her vulnerable side (like her last scene with Andrea), and some of her occasional flashes of humor, like in the episode when she went alone with Carl and Rick. I think Danai has great scene presence. I also think Rick and Michonne have a ton of chemistry and I was really thrown by that flirting scene in the finale (it was one of the few times since the show's started that Rick seemed...content, and not weak and crippled), although I know that's not likely to happen.

A lot of fans felt the same way.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I remember when they had Holden's last fake funeral and it was looked so sparse and empty. At least we got to see some genuine somberness here, although I couldn't quite connect emotionally (I did when Kim remembered his wedding vows). I kept thinking about when David died, and Chris, and how we didn't see much of the actual funeral (we may have with David - I can't remember).

The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
I've never read them but I love Michonne a lot anyway. The scenes with Milton and Andrea were a mess in part because the show had originally filmed scenes where he turned earlier and ate her, I think. Someone objected, and the scenes were filmed again some time later, to give her more dignity.

Funeral. Who is that with Lisa? Is it Tom? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfGJE6vr3kk I guess that girl with Betsy is Valerie's adopted daughter. I can see why Suzanne Davison was popular with viewers. She seems very ethereal.

Thanks. I was wondering what some of the writing was at the bottom of the clip. That it's from the Lifetime thing makes sense.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Her last scene - apparently she requested this scene. It made me sad, but happy under the sadness, which is Eastenders, or what Eastenders used to be anyway. Smiling through tears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t12hpX_QB-I

Another clip from soon after Dan's death. A little of Melinda (such wasted potential) with Barbara, boring Annie with some man (Beau? I thought Beau was hunkier), Dee (early JSchultz) with Kim, and poor John trying with Kim but being frozen out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRwtg9kYY3o

Holy crap. These are the people running our government. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/truly-in-lord-of-the-flies-territory- The Politics Thread
Looks like we're heading toward a government shutdown. Beltway cheerleaders like The Fix are already trying to frame this as good for the GOP, branding the people pushing this as "cast-iron conservatives," but past leaders are saying it's not good for them at all. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2013/09/would-a-government-shutdown-really-be-all-that-bad-for-republicans-yes/279790/ As always no one in the press and most of the people in Congress do not give a flying !@#$%^&*] about the public, who will be the ones suffering for this.
