EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I don't hate Danny Dyer (some people seem to despise him) but I'm not sure about pinning the future of the show on him.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Some great scenes in this. Enjoy seeing the bookstore, and Lisa being torn. Tom Tammi isn't too bad in this clip. Great to see more of Nancy, even if her hair is awful and flat. The John/Kim scene in this is good, just slowly building up. They had such a tense relationship at this point as he keeps needling and pushing and she can barely contain herself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHIsOOUniOE

Doctor Who
Barrowman tends to get on my nerves in anything but limited doses. He's been interviewed in almost every special. I get why he's interviewed for this one but I feel like I've heard it all before. I rolled my eyes when he tried to present Jack as some sort of cool gunslinger, when Jack mostly just followed Rose and the Doctor around with puppy dog eyes. I rolled my eyes at some of the special. Not every Doctor before Eccleston just fussed over experiments. Rose was not the first companion to have her family on the show. She wasn't the first to save the Doctor. And the continued pushing of pansexuality or bisexuality as shocking and wild is offensive and harmful. They didn't even remember that the Doctor was blase about the whole thing, which you should be. And the special kind of minimized just how horrible the show's treatment of Mickey was.

Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
I don't get the feeling he's that popular at this point. Most of the posts I see about him are just whining about hating Doug and pining about Brendan. He's an afterthought. The pairing with Emmett took away most of Kieron's talent. He just started pouting and pursing his lips all the time, like a Mick Jagger impersonator. The character is an albatross. He's lucky Kirkwood plays favorites.

The Politics Thread
Media darling Marco is shoring up his far right flank by doing a twofer - fighting hard to make sure a black AND gay judge is not appointed. Remember this when the press gushes over how moderate he is because he loves Tupac. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/26/marco-rubio-gay-black-judge_n_3996156.html The Fix, as shallow as ever, is so unconcerned with the shutdown that they are having a playlist. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/09/30/the-fixs-government-shutdown-playlist/ That's the biggest problem with this. So many are blase. It means that no one cares about change. The only people who care about change are the tea party lunatics, which is one of the reasons they get what they want. The woman who was sentenced to 20 years for firing warning shots is getting a new trial. http://gma.yahoo.com/court-overturns-20-sentence-woman-fired-warning-shots-221358241--abc-news-topstories.html

Doctor Who
Tennant's was garbage in every way. Even he apparently objected to it. Moffat never seems to know how to do endings so I'm not holding my breath for a good one. We'll see. I will miss Matt. I don't think I will care for Capaldi's Doctor with Clara. I wish she was going. Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
NeNe will be on The Chew today. I agree with Camille about the appeal of a show like this and of what soaps used to be, although I think most soaps excelled when they were subtler but still had strong, complex feuds. I actually think the Housewives shows could do with being a little subtler and less blatantly scripted. I wish Cohen would watch more Knots and less of the worst of Dynasty, which is what some of them feel like now. Camille once talked about how Nikki Newman was the essence of womanhood, and she had some great points.

Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
I think it depends on how much you enjoy seeing people focus on making each other go ha-ha, which is ironic, since Lorne Michaels hated the Carol Burnett Show because of this.

Jane was solo anchor for part of 76-77 and all of 79-80. Mary Gross was also sole anchor very briefly.

Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
The show's political humor has been terrible for a long time now. They lost their edge. I think they should drop that angle. I also think they should drop gay characters until they can move past LOL OMG A GAY GUY EW LOL!

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I was reading an old magazine from around 1985, and Margaret Reed (Shannon O'Hara on ATWT) said that when she started on the show earlier that year, someone told her to watch Erika Slezak to learn how to act on soaps. She said that because she was from the theater, she kept moving her hands and arms while she was acting. The person told her, "Erika's been on for 15 years and she never moves her arms!"

With our media and the Koch power, I have a feeling the Republicans will be made into martyrs and heroes if they do this, with Democrats getting all the blame.

Republicans eager and giddy to shut the government down. Shocking. Remember when we used to hear about how Democrats hate America? http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/on-cusp-of-shutdown-house-conservatives-excited-say-they-are-doing-the-right-thing/2013/09/28/2a5ab618-285e-11e3-97e6-2e07cad1b77e_story.html?tid=pm_politics_pop

ALL: They Almost Became
Sharon and her husband (played by Fernando Rey) were troubled. Rey's character seemed interested in Julie. Viewers learned that Sharon was as well, as she revealed her feelings for Julie. This caused considerable fan backlash. I think she attempted suicide and then she and her husband left town so she could get help. I can't remember.

ALL: They Almost Became
Sally Stark auditioned to play Marlena, which was then basically described as another Laura. They instead cast her in the short-lived, controversial role of Sharon DuVal.

I agree. I wonder where they filmed those scenes.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The attempt at levity with Chris and Bob teasing Dana is a little like a kids show, but it does amuse me. Then Bob and Barbara teasing Tom. (I like Babrara's outfit there) This ballet stuff seems kind of dull and grafted onto Oakdale. I liked this actress on AW (apparently fans did not) but her as Bob's love interest is jarring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIkrqLTEpX8

I'm sorry, I thought you meant the year it was filmed. Yes, sounds like 1991 or so.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I think the site says May 28, 2013. I found a dubbed version on Youtube uploaded recently and thought it might be 700 Club, based on those shots of her wandering around looking depressed/contemplative (they never update their filming style I guess), so then I looked a little more and found the English version.
