RIP: In Memoriam Thread
I figured someone would have made a separate thread for legendary Betty! She’s been on my TV nonstop since I was a kid, and I’m so thankful to have been able to watch and know the “whole” Betty White. Sue Ann, Rose, Ellen, the hundreds of game show appearances during THE golden age of the genre - in both the 70s and 80s, she was an Emmy-award winning actress on a high-profile primetime sitcom who eagerly, graciously, and consistently did panel work on daytime and syndicated game shows. No one out there today would ever do it. Then she, of course, was on B&B. I just need the mainstream conversation to tirelessly remind everyone that she was more than just Rose on Golden Girls. I see so many things about her being reunited with Estelle, Bea, and Rue, but if you really knew Betty, you know the reunion that tops them all is the one with Allen.

Game Shows
I love 70s Concentration for all of those same reasons! "Baby freshener" and "Toni home wave" are two of my favorite regular prizes. I also really appreciate the music used for the head starts and the prize descriptions at the end of the rounds. It really doesn't get better than Score Productions in the 70s. Have y'all been watching Whew! on Buzzr? I didn't expect to get into it like I would - I guess I was turned off by the cartoony graphics, which I just assumed were a gimmick for the entire show, but I actually really enjoy it, and I see why it's called Whew. I feel like airing this back-to-back with Split Second would have you feeling exhausted afterward. I'm super glad that I can only see Buzzr through the Pluto app because we're getting Dawson Feud instead of 90s Newlywed Game in primetime, and I don't think I've regularly watched Dawson Feud in ages, since it was still shown on GSN at a decent hour. It's made me fall in love with Feud again, which is impressive considering how much seeing Steve Harvey's version makes me hate the show so, so much.

Jimmy Kimmel Presents Norman Lear's "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family" Live on ABC
Yes, your explanation is better than mine. "Cadence" is exactly it. The only people who can duplicate that slow-moving crustiness aren't actors, they're the ones actually living that life. There are a couple of ma-maws and pa-paws that I've seen on TikTok who would be perfect. I'm so out of touch with who's who these days that I can't even begin to think of people who could play them or others from other shows. Remember about 20 years ago there was The Rerun Show on, I think NBC? The cast was made up of a lot of SNL/MADtv types, and episodes were hit or miss, but I remember thinking it was hilarious (as a 12 year old). I recall them doing episodes of Facts, Strokes, Bewitched, Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, etc.

Jimmy Kimmel Presents Norman Lear's "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family" Live on ABC
It is, that's how I watched it. The DS episode was great! I think the difference between the two halves is that FOL seemed to be played as a parody where all of these grown-ass people playing teenagers were clearly poking fun at what they were doing. DS was a more sincere tribute to the original series. Maybe it's because they knew they were stepping into roles played by people who are no longer here, idk. It just felt better, and Kevin Hart was a great Arnold. I'm curious to see where these go. I really want to see a Sanford and Son, but I'm not sure if there is anyone who can truly play those roles. The cast was such a gigantic part of that show. You can't pretend to be those people.

Jimmy Kimmel Presents Norman Lear's "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family" Live on ABC
Jennifer Aniston was horrible as Blair, which hurt more because Lisa was there and looked amazing. Aniston played Blair as such a careless bitch, and that wasn’t Blair at all. My favorite on FOL was Natalie. She felt the most natural and not trying too hard. Todd Bridges as the only original cast member from DS standing on that set makes my heart weep so much, but the set looks FANTASTIC.

I've always said my preferred method of making Josh a member of the Erica Klan(e) was by simply having him be Mark's long-lost son. Depending on what they wanted to do with the character's age, he could have been the product of an ONS from prior to Mark's arrival in PV in 1976 or from any point in the early/mid 80s when he was on and off of drugs. I'd prefer to the first option. They could have brought Mark back to facilitate the revelation of Josh's paternity, and then he could have stayed on as recurring or went away again. La Mura was still alive and well and making appearances on the show from time to time. I adored Colin Egglesfield and still do. I follow him on Instagram, and honestly, between he and Susan, they post so much positive, feel-good content. I'd love to hear them both talk together candidly about the story, from her perspective as THE legendary star of the show and his perspective as this guy in his early 30s coming in and not knowing the magnitude of the story he's playing.

Dawson's Creek: Discussion Thread
I've been steadily watching season four over the last few days, and I have several quick comments: - Okay, this season is definitely better than season three in multiple ways. Not sure why I was so drawn to season three when I originally watched years and years ago, but everything just flows better and is so much easier to get into in 4. The triangle heats up and is filled with melodrama, but it's pretty juicy and engrossing. - Pacey's birthday. Damn it. I forgot how dramatic the whole party and aftermath was. It's such a great example of teen drama being human drama - quiet, slow-moving, and emotional. I miss teen soaps like this so SO much. Now, the entire show would center on Dawson trying to find Mrs. Potter's missing corpse. - I never realized before that Jack was openly considered a hottie in Capeside. I've caught several times where Joey says he's "built like a Greek god" or Jen makes a sleazy face when he facetiously says "what if I started undressing in front of you." The Toby storyline is good, and it's made us see his not-so-virtuous side. Him trying to hook up with Jen was probably the most disgusting thing I've ever seen on television. I always forget how much I love this show's vibe. I just wish I could hear the real damn theme song from time to time.

All: Characters you thought would come back but never did
AMC - Mark, more regularly/permanently - Kelly Cole (I wasn't holding my breath waiting for them to bring her back at the time, but her return for Myrtle's funeral and then Francesca James appearing as a new character on the reboot made me wonder why Kelly didn't step into Myrtle's role as shepherd of lost sheep for the last year or two) - Trey Kenyon, I remember him being given a relatively short sentence for his crimes and assumed that meant he'd be back someday, and I'm still surprised he didn't considering so much of the show began to revolve around The Curled One - Jeff Martin, I mean I get it that they were ready to move on past the travesty of the unabortion, but I figured they'd try to bring him back for Martin family events, like Jake and Amanda's wedding ATWT - SORAS'ed Christina Hughes!

All My Children Tribute Thread
Just start with the earliest available episodes and go from there. There are 5-10 episodes from the first two years on YT (30-minute episodes in black and white though they were originally in color). If you're interested enough to listen to some audio cassette recordings of episodes, there are a few clips and a full episode or two from 1973-1975. There's the GREAT full episode of Erica's third wedding, to Tom Cudahy, from September 1978. It features a ton of major characters from the 70s and is a really nice snapshot of that time in the show's history. There are some good scattered episodes from 1979-1982, and then you can slow down and take your time watching everything on the HamiltonBernique channel. Not a full collection at all, but you'll get all of the basics of the show's early/mid 80s heyday. Various channels will take you into the late 80s and into the 90s, but I believe a ton of episodes from that period have been deleted in the last year or so. I was watching 1989 pretty regularly, but most of those seem to have vanished.

Characters you were surprised to see again
Jesse and Angie, for sure. By the time they returned to AMC, they'd been established as a super important but bygone part of the show's legacy - then, next thing you know, they're leading characters on the show again for three solid years plus the reboot. It's also surprising when you think back to Tom and Mark's appearances in 2004-2005, and it's criminal that they were never kept around on a more regular basis (yes, I know I know, thank god they weren't because they would have been destroyed etc etc, that's besides the point I'm trying to make).

I always assumed it was just aging, but I have no iota of expertise on surgery and how it looks. Currently watching that August 1981 episode that was posted a while back. I didn't pay attention to it at first because I thought it was one of those episodes from the same month posted a couple years ago, but it's definitely one I haven't seen before. They REALLY threw the shade at Julia Barr by having Phoebe heap some over-the-top praise on nuBrooke's looks after returning to PV. Also - Nina's baby talk with Bobby is 2222222 much!! Get her, Sybil!

Of course, I'm 100% here for the little clip of Myrtle, Kelly, and Eddie! Fiesty 70s Myrtle who was still a bit on the outskirts of the mainstream is my favorite. A mention of Claudette, but I still haven't seen any footage of her (or Margo, of course, but she was several years gone by '79). I just. want. MOREEEEE.

B&B October 2021 Discussion Thread
Did I really just tune into B&B for the first time in ages to find everyone literally sitting around talking about Eric’s cock?

Same Actor, Different Names
Was she ever just Colleen Pinter? I feel as though she was always CZP once she married Mark Pinter

Same Actor, Different Names
The space in Christian LeBlanc's name is so unnecessary and pretentious. It's an extremely extremely extremely common last name in south LA, and nooooooooo one puts a space between the syllables. In fact, the only time I've ever seen anyone with "La/Le" last names here put a space is when they're trying to break into show business.

Soap Opera Network Celebrates 20 Years of Bringing Drama Closer
Congratulations, SON and team! It's incredible to me that it's been 20 years. I've been here for 18 of them! I was a thirteen year old child in junior high when I joined this board, and my maturity level certainly matched my age! But because of the many awesome members here, I learned so much about this genre we love. Soaps were truly my escape. I always say other kids had Harry Potter, but I had daytime drama - it was my happy place, the one thing I knew would provide nothing but comfort and peace. I'll never forget the excitement of the weekly ratings posts or - and this is taking it back - Matt's weekly top 10 of actors, actresses, and couples. Those truly were the days. The soaps might not have been their best, but there were still so many, and we all watched them like a hawk, so no matter what, on any given day, at least one or two shows had some good stuff going on. Thank you EVERYONE for having a part in "raising" me over the years. A big part of who I am today is because of who you all were back then.

^^^^gorgeous photos. The ones in color are truly treasures! Is it just me or does it seem like, relatively speaking, AMC is more relevant in mainstream media, a decade after its ABC finale, than some/all of the remaining soaps? Not saying any of them are hugely relevant in mainstream media at all, but relatively speaking…

Agnes Nixon's Erica Kane
It's funny that you say this - and I realize I'm coming in a week later, blame Ida - because a very good Instagram account I follow posted a series of scenes not long ago where Brooke fires Kendall from Tempo for writing an Erica-bashing article. It was so WEIRD to see Brooke working on Erica's behalf and the two of them almost respecting each other. Clearly, on Erica's end, it was all about getting back at Kendall and using Brooke to do it, but it was still an oddly satisfying thing to watch. It kinda made their feud even more realistic - yes, there is always THAT bitch you don't like, but sometimes you gotta hand it to her.

Dallas Discussion Thread
I toured Southfork last month, and the tour guide very candidly said that Victoria was the only cast member that the long-serving staff there personally could not stand to deal with. Each room of the house is devoted to a main Ewing character, but Pam is the only one missing - tour guide said it was because Victoria would not approve of her image being used in the house. Not sure how true that is, given that there were full cast pictures throughout the estate/museum. She spoke fondly about everyone else, but she did acknowledge Larry was an alcoholic, and you either surfed those waves with him or you didn't. Patrick and Charlene seem to have been the real favorites over the years. Charlene's daughter was married on the ranch a while back.

Bare Essence (1982-83)
I've only ever seen the miniseries, and yes, the cast is incredible. It's been a very long time since I've seen it, though, and I'd love to give it another watch (rainy day marathon alongside Scruples and Hollywood Wives, maybe?).

Oh, no indeed! I was hoping my response didn't sound catty. I legit feel like a slacker for not simply going back a few pages, especially considering it was mentioned a day before Ray's passing, which I came here to post about. Unpopular opinion, but I thought it looked good on paper. I remember people being upset at Zoe being a lesbian transwoman because it was perceived as just a way to get Bianca "with a man," but I wonder how that would play today. Jeff Carlson didn't half-play that character, that's for sure, and the chemistry was there with Eden. It would have been interesting to see her last longer or visit more, but I always felt she was such a character "of the time" that her politics would have softened over the years. Or, maybe Amy would have evolved into the character that Rosemary would go on to play on How to Survive a Marriage (feminist psychologist). Maybe she could have been one of the few characters allowed to see Tad as a pig and call him out on it. Re: Ruth's hair. I've been amazed by that poor nurse's cap holding on for dear life for years and years. You just know something's in there holding it up.

Whoops, I guess I shouldn't have chosen to be lazy and not flip back a few pages (though I did find the energy to go back two years to see if it was discussed then). I agree with both of y'all so much re: McT. As much as some have tried to claim that the woman never had any business writing the show or that she was just a hack who did not care about the show or its legacy, that is just simply not true. A hack? Sure. Employed far longer than she needed to be? Absolutely. Destructive in the long-term? Yes! Completely ignorant as to what the All My Children vibe is? Not by a longshot - especially compared to who she immediately succeeded and preceded for her 2000s run.

All My Children Tribute Thread
I can't remember if this has been posted here or not. It's been on YT for over two years, and I'm just seeing it for the first time. Courtesy of the actress playing the little girl. Of course, my biggest soap "Make-a-Wish" is to see every second of 70s AMC, but at this point, I really need to see this era of Anne and Paul before Elizabeth's death and Anne's descent into madness. We have a small handful of clips showing her raging hard, but what was she like on a day-to-day basis before her life came crumbling down? She's so bubbly and cool in the 1970-1971 episodes/clips, but what was the "mid-section" like for the character?
