BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
But most shows and movies announce casting far in advance. At this point, if they released the cast tomorrow I don't think that would be too soon. I will say, one concern I have with them filming in November is that it's going to be a tight turnaround in terms of promo. The show is premiering in January, so they have to hope everything goes right in November so they have stuff to promote with, hopefully starting in December.

I'm really eager to start hearing some casting news as well. If they start filming at the beginning of November, I'd hope we start getting some announcements throughout October at the latest. Would be nice if they could start announcing some of the big names to build excitement. They'll have a lot of people to announce so it would be a good way to get people buzzing about the series.

AMC: Lifetime TV Movie Franchise Announced
I think this idea would've fit GL or ATWT better, but I'm not mad at it. Any attempt to bring a soap back is a good thing. It could also lead to a series down the road if it's successful, or streaming for classic episodes. ABC's soap catalog is huge and wasting away. Any effort to do something with it is a good thing in my opinion. This also has a much better chance of happening than Pine Valley did. The networks are all cutting their scripted content and there is a lot of competition in primetime. I wish they'd moved it to streaming or even Lifetime, but I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

You aren't too far off on Kenny. From what David Jacobs suggested, they had bigger plans for the Ward's, but the network vetoed it.

They should've killed Ginger's mom and had Ginger adopt those two bad ass sisters of hers. They could've had a love triangle with Eric and have one of them get pregnant which could've created drama with Karen. Kenny just needed to go though. I find it sad that he is the reason the show decided to write her off. I'm not sure why they were so intent on them being a unit. She could've moved on with Joe or any number of the men on the show.

I just finished my season 3 re-watch. This is a season that I've always had an issue with. I previously blamed the amount of stand-alone episodes, but considering how much I enjoyed them in my season 1 & 2 re-watch, I decided to go in with a more open mind this time. The only one that I felt was truly bad an unnecessary was Silver Shadows. The biggest failure of this season was not finding anything interesting for Ginger and Kenny to do. They're lucky to have made it to season four considering they were so superfluous here. I enjoyed watching Karen try to move on and date. I also liked that they kept the kids involved and didn't let their grief be forgotten. Abby being Sid's sister was also critical to her being a character that worked long term. When Joe arrived I feel like the family finally came together in their post-Sid era. Of course everybody knows how masterful the Abby/Gary/Val triangle was so I won't go into detail about that, but this season was incredible for Laura and Richard. Richard is such a weasel that I can understand why some viewers might not have time for him. His friendship with Karen helped ground him and I felt like the most compelling story this season was his decent into disrepair. He was always a flawed man, but seeing him finally come to terms with Laura's ambitions and find a new job only for it to be the same ole mess he always falls into. Night was probably one of the Top Ten best hours this show ever had. At the end when Richard put the gun to his head was heartbreaking. Laura and Richard are both flawed, very tragic characters, but I loved watching them. I know Greg/Laura were popular, but I don't think they were nearly as interesting which is why Laura ended up sidelined and was so easy to write off. John Pleshette should've won an Emmy for season 3. I believe this is the season Michele Lee was nominated, but he should've been right there next to her.

ALL: End of an Era: Are Daytime Soaps Washing Away?
This doesn't give CBS any incentive to keep the show though, which is the issue. I wish I had saved the article, but I do recall an article about The Gates mentioning that B&B wasn't owned by them and that they feel it's success is due to its timeslot and connection to Y&R. We also know they have no creative control over the show. That is why I speculate that if The Gates take off I could see them launching something they own instead.

ALL: End of an Era: Are Daytime Soaps Washing Away?
I think this is kinda a ridiculous question to ask right now. If soaps were struggling Peacock wouldn't have picked up Days, Amazon wouldn't have picked up Neighbours and we sure wouldn't be getting a new soap. The days of calling soaps expensive is outdated and no longer accurate when they are spending $100+ million to shoot one season of an 8 episode streaming series. These soaps are now the affordable option that is helping drive streaming subscriptions year round. Peacock had it's best quarter after adding Days. Days, Neighbours and GH are constantly in the Top Ten on their platforms. We don't know how Y&R and B&B do on Paramount Plus, but it can't be that bad if they're launching another soap. Right now we're coming out of the era of overspending on shows people aren't watching. Soaps are valuable for these streaming services because they drive those year round subscriptions. The only soap I see being in danger is B&B, but that's more of a quality issue and lack of ownership on CBS part. If the see big success with The Gates, they'd have no reason to continue B&B when they can launch something new that they own, whether it be a third soap or another game or talk show.

He had a really good handle on how to do those self contained episodes. I feel they were more successful at it than Dallas or Dynasty. I'm sure his experience on Family helped there. He had another show called Married: The First Year (with Constance McCashin) which I'd love to see. It seems to be impossible to find though.

Paul was Sid's nephew. When it comes to Fairgate's, the biggest missed opportunity for me was not bringing back Annie at some point. Ginger did have 2 sisters, but I feel like both were duds. Perhaps an interesting story could've been if Ginger's mom died and she adopted her sisters. That may have been more interesting than her stuff with Kenny. One relative that I absolutely loved was Karen's brother Joe. I hated when he left. He had chemistry with everyone and had so much potential as a leading man.

ARTICLE: Taye Diggs, Tyler Posey & James Van Der Beek To Bare All In FOX’s ‘The Real Full Monty’
Wasn't this a musical? Why not just do a live adaptation of that? This seems like a weird format.

Primetime Soaps
I agree with you here. Megan was definitely the highlight of Second Chances. I just finished it and watched the first episode of Hotel Malibu. It felt like the original series was a pilot that should've been retooled before going to series. They had a good idea, but it didn't come together at all. It also needed to be heavily recast. The collection of characters felt so random and almost every role was miscast. Only one episode in I can't say that Hotel Malibu was thrilling, but I'll give it more time. Strange that they decided to go that route for a spin off though.

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
I didn't realize until talking to fans about this that she had planned to leave before the show was cancelled. The Toadie actor said he'd wanted to leave as well, but ultimately the show made the decision for him. My issue with this is that if you knew you weren't going to keep these characters long term, why center so much of the reboot around them? Mackenzie, Haz and Toadie have had more screentime than almost everybody. I wish for characters like that they'd treated it more like David and give them an arc, but not make them the leads of the show. For long term viewers I'm sure it'll be easier because they're used to the turnover and also got to enjoy these characters longer than I did. Now I'm left disappointed because they were what was keeping me tuned in. I'm going to stick around, but I'll definitely miss Mackenzie and Toadie in particular.

GH: Casting Call for "Lauren" ⏤ Code for Lulu Recast?
A big problem with the streaming shows is that they're locking actors into the same contracts you would have on a 22 episode network show, but for 6-10 episodes. That means you get a lot less pay and many actors have complained about being blocked from doing other jobs while under contract which is where the struggle comes in. Listening to Landon's interview on the previous page and also her one on The Locher Room, this makes more sense to me. She talks about how after ATWT she was told she would move to primetime and she couldn't get a job. Then the Y&R gig appeared to really affect her, being fired so soon. Yes she's on Yellowstone now, but she isn't one of the faces and she's not guaranteed to pick up work immediately after. For all she knows, it could be another post ATWT or post Y&R where she can't get work. If GH is offering her a good contract, why pass it up?

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
Mack is the only one I’m not sure of, but Toadie and Haz were definitely not the actors choice.

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
Yes: https://www.backtothebay.net/news/2024/09/04/ill-miss-everything-neighbours-confirms-haz-and-mackenzies-departure/ I'm really disappointed. First Toadie, now Haz and Mackenzie who were the biggest draws for me as a reboot viewer. It's crazy to me that these seem to be show dictated exits, but these characters drove so much story during the first year. Also a shame because I've been enjoying the show so much lately. Of course I will stick with it, but I don't understand these choices at all.

Knots Landing
For me it's season 4, but I agree that season 4-6 is quite the run. In my current re-watch I'm at the beginning of season 3 and I have to give them props for how well they handled the self-contained period of the show and used it to still weave continuing stories in. Season one in particular allowed the characters to be completely vulnerable and they handled some serious stories. I'd argue that nobody in the Dallas/Knots universe had chemistry as strong with Larry Hagman as Joan Van Ark. She always played all of the backstory in all of their scenes.

Primetime Soaps
I vaguely remember Palmetto Pointe. I wanna say Gabrielle Carteris was also on it. I finished Rich Man Poor Man Book 2 which had a very dark ending. It was definitely an interesting forgotten primetime soap. It deserved another year or two. I decided to jump into Second Chances next and I love it. It's a cute little cozy town and the characters are fun. I do think some of the casting could've been better, but overall I could see this show lasting longer than it did. It's a shame they didn't at least get a full season due to the Earthquake destroying their sets.

B&B: August 2024 Discussion Thread
Luna has been dull as dishwater since she debuted. It took a crazy Brad Bell stunt like this to make her interesting. I wish they had thought of this before instead of making all the young female characters come in as saints. They should've done a Paris/RJ/Luna triangle from the jump with Luna as the vixen trying to steal RJ from Paris. It's a shame she's finally interesting and they'll likely have to write her off.

GH: Casting Call for "Lauren" ⏤ Code for Lulu Recast?
She really was. Eden Reigel was painfully miscast in the role and Vail Bloom is a classic Bill bell femme fatale, but I feel like Landon had the maturity for where the character was at that point. As you mentioned, her chemistry with Michael Graziadei was great and she was believable as a lawyer. I didn't understand why they quickly fired her. She mentioned on The Locher Room that her shock from that caused her to quit acting for quite a few years.

GH: Casting Call for "Lauren" ⏤ Code for Lulu Recast?
Jennifer Landon’s role on Yellowstone isn’t huge from what I’ve seen. I could see her jumping ship for a contract. Plus, that show kills people off left and right so for all we know her character could be dead. Jennifer Landon would be a huge casting coup if they got her. I couldn’t believe how Y&R wasted her. I’d hope they write to her strengths and let her be strong.

GH: Fan Fave Fired. Actress Blindsided
Her fans seem to think she was targeted for whatever reason. I even saw someone say shee was punished because Jarly failed. It seems like a lot of delusion when I don't recall anybody praising her performances for years.

GH: Fan Fave Fired. Actress Blindsided
While I am not upset about KeMo going, I do think that creatively the show has been a mess for so long that it's time for a complete change. The way the HW situation has been handled is another big reason Frank needs to go. Unfortunately, we seem past the point where they try to make big moves on soaps. Look at Y&R and how bad it's ratings and quality are yet JG seems safe. I'm stunned Ron left Days, but it's hard to tell what happened there. I don't expect them to make any big BTS moves at GH after the botched HW swap.

I don't think it's outrageous to compare this to Tyler Perry. He is the only one who has been launching anything close to a daytime soap in the past 20 years. The Have and The Have Not's was even shot just like a daytime soap in it's early seasons. I believe The Oval is mostly studio bound as well. With that said, I don't think the character descriptions sound similar to what we had on either of those shows. It's similar in that it involves politics and I'm sure there will be some have nots to mix with the wealthy characters, but that is also true of every US soap and most international ones as well.
