  1. I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.
  2. I like Joey and the idea of having a criminal element but I do agree they need to find a better setting for it. Maybe give Joey a more traditional location for his front business like a coffee shop or restaurant so you still have a place the cast can meet up. Daytime has been run by men for the past decade and it hasn't been good. I am more than open to women taking the lead.
  3. I'm not too worried about this. We all know MVJ is the main vision and the show has continued to improve over time so I don't see why that would change. She's also close with Guza in real life so I wouldn't believe it if anybody said there were any drama surrounding his exit. It's not surprising for a new show to have writing changes. We already know Gregori Martin will be out at some point and Jamey is joining. Now we know Tracy Thomson is joining. I don't know anything about her but I'm going to hope for the best. I wasn't aware of this rumor but I will say I loved JFP's last stint on the show. I think she did a good job of stabilizing things and I loved that she brought Jill back. Of course a big problem was that Chancellor mansion re-design but overall I think her Y&R was safe and watchable. They're in dire need of a major change so I wouldn't be mad at it.
  4. What we're watching now was filmed in the early week after the premiere but I wouldn't imagine we'll see any changes based on audience feedback until August/September because of how far they ahead film/write.
  5. They need to really lean into this back to basics model. In addition to another soap, if I were them I'd be looking at what HBO Max did with The Pitt and trying to launch more affordable network-style shows with longer runs. That could be the one piece that could cement them as a viable platform.
  6. You're not wrong when you consider none of the streamers are profitable but Peacock has been reducing it's debt each year and seems to be more on track than the other streamers are. They have to find a way to cut costs to be sustainable. You can't just keep churning out these short lived expensive shows hoping for a miracle. I think the key is affordable programming and also ad supported tiers for additional revenue. HBO Max recently had a big success story with The Pitt which was a modestly budgeted 15 episode series. That needs to be the model. They should be striving for shows with more episodes that can be made for less.
  7. It's not network tv. A 10 episode show getting 1.4 billion views in 3 months is not the same as a year-round financial investment which is what they get out of a show like Days. The goal is to maintain a subscription overtime.
  8. The problem is that the 10 episode series is likely going to cost $50-100 million (more in some cases) and those people will cancel their subscription when the series ends. That creates an unwinnable situation where you constantly have to spend those large amounts to churn out constant hits to sustain subscriptions. That's why all of these streaming services are in so much debt. Around the time Peacock picked up Days they did mention that their goal was to start trying to drive long term subscriptions. In addition to Days they've really leaned into sports and live programming which can help drive year round traffic.
  9. Today's episode was really good. I love the way they've transformed Xander into a true villain. I never cared for him but the actor is doing a great job with this material. I also feel like Linsey Godfrey is killing it as Sarah opposite him. I hope they continue in this direction. I also am one of the few who loves John Paul Lavoisier as Phillip and I hope they keep him around in a regular capacity. The John stuff was very sad to watch. On one hand you think it's typical Days but knowing that Drake is gone and seeing the actors pain felt so real. I'm glad they're doing him justice. The flashbacks were perfectly placed and each character was given a moment to reflect on their relationship with John. I can't wait to see how this develops.
  10. This is a name I forgot but you may have hit the jackpot with this suggestion. She would be fantastic! And visually I think she'd fit right in. Brandon is very clearly gay. The joke is that Facebook viewers are so out of touch they don't know these things. All it takes is one look at his instagram and you can see whats up.
  11. I don't think it's about comparing it to tv but within streaming thats a good number of people subscribing to your service, paying a monthly fee and many with commercials which is even more revenue. In the streaming world Days is good value for it's cost. When you consider it's budget and the fact that it drives year round subscriptions, it's a big value to a platform like Peacock which is trying to become profitable and is specifically looking for programming that can drive those year round subscriptions.
  12. I don't think it'll truly be something never seen in daytime but maybe something uncommon that Tunie isn't aware was done. With that in mind my best guess is that maybe she was in a Diddy-esque sex trafficking situation.
  13. The facebook comments are *very* entertaining! Sometimes I enjoy going down that rabbit hole. It doesn't matter the soap, if it's on Facebook, they are always wildly off the mark.
  14. One of the many things I love about BTG is how much their set is locked down. We had Tracy recently arrive and per the article above, Sharon will arrive next week and we had no idea who is playing either role prior to their arrival. We also have no clue what Anita or Martin's secrets are. It's refreshing to truly go into a soap blind without knowing whats coming next.
  15. I never understood why they made efforts to include Americans in the story but never did anything to promote the show here. That was a huge mistake.
  16. It amazes me more soaps aren't in streaming for this reason. I feel like Amazon made a big mistake dumping Neighbours which was doing well but "not part of their new vision." That is insane when you consider how much they're spending on original programming which often struggles to be successful. I'm happy that Days remains a key player for Peacock. I know people complain about the budget but I actually think the show looks pretty good. Now that they've fixed the situation with the writing, I am back loving the show and watching daily on Peacock. If I had one budget-related request it would be maybe to give them a little extra money to do a one year special thing like a big cast remote or stunt storyline. That's one thing we haven't seen on Days in a long time.
  17. Kim Zimmer's son Jake Weary (Luke, ATWT) is starring in Kevin Williamson's new show for Netflix.
  18. I found the ATWT reference to be cleverly done and I enjoyed it. I thought this was another great episode. I'm starting to love Jacob and Naomi as the grounded good guys. June has brought the best out of both of them and both of them have made Derek more bearable.
  19. I completely agree. A good example would be someone like Joshua Morrow or Ronn Moss although I think Maurice was miles better than both of them. He just fit the role so well and his charisma jumped off the screen. This recast will likely stick but it has sunk the character and I don't see him recovering. It seems like the original was more popular than they anticipated and the majority of comments I see online about nuTed are negative. I feel like people will get used to him being around but I don't see him regaining his popularity.
  20. To be clear, I'm not suggesting Robert Adamson should've gotten the role but I do think the way Frank does things is shady and that is a good example. He was good enough to be a fill-in for years but you couldn't let him audition? It reminds me of when AW made Ellen Wheeler audition for a part she won an Emmy for. In both cases the actor didn't get it but at least Wheeler was given a chance to audition. This I agee with 100%. It makes me so sad to think he's finally leaving Days and is likely going to be in a throwaway role on Y&R. He would've been an asset to ANY of the soaps on air and that is where he ended up?
  21. This guy replacing Robert Adamson a second time does feel a bit cruel. Especially knowing they didn't even allow Adamson to audition for the recast.
  22. I'm binging last week and I still find it so odd how different the show feels. Before I felt like each episode felt so long but the show is gliding by now. I'm on Thursday and it's crazy how real the characters feel. It doesn't feel like Days of Our Lives because I'm so used to everything being slapstick. It's definitely nice seeing layers to the characters now. I'm beginning to feel really confident about the coming months when the new headwriters can introduce their own stories.
  23. Wednesday was another good one. This week has been very strong overall. Leslie has definitely carried it! I do wonder what her end game is. I can't get over how fearless she is and these mind games she plays. I'm used to villains doing whatever they can to hide their secrets but she is basically taunting everyone. Will Jacob end up putting the pieces together or be the typical soap egg head cop? We shall see.... I loved the scenes with Dani and Chelsea. Karla really shines when she is put in scenes with her daughters. I didn't expect it to work based on the ages but she comes off very believable as their mother. I also love how much she clearly cares for them and loves them. The way she immediately pivoted to focus on Chelsea's needs and making sure she knew she was loved and accepted was so heartwarming. As much as Bill wanted to be in the mix, I can't see him doing the same. I still remain shocked that this week has finally made me feel empathetic for Doofy. I hope that this is truly the end for him and Ashley and that they pivot somewhere else for him. He is still a terrible actor but he is more bearable in scenes with other people.
  24. I was out of town so I just got to Monday and Tuesdays episodes. I was nervous because of the comments I read here (particularly about Monday) but I enjoyed both episodes. I didn't find Monday to be slow and although I am Derek's biggest hater, I actually didn't mind him. For one, I'm happy the story is finally moving and I feel like if they play him as a doofus it kinda works. Dani/Andre continue to be a highlight for me so more of them was a positive. I've also been enjoying the Vanessa/Doug storyline develop. I really don't have any complaints as far as Monday goes. Now Tuesday was another hit. The Leslie/Laura scenes were a menacing delight. I love that Leslie seems so fearless. Of course this is going to catch up to her and blow up in her face but you cannot make that woman sweat. To live in such a world of delusion must be nice.
  25. I feel the same. I didn’t expect to care about them but the chemistry is strong and I’d love to see them go public and try to make it work.
