  1. Although there had been rumblings for months, Zach Tinker has been dropped to recurring status at “Days of our Lives” where he continues to appear as Sonny Kiriakis. He was last seen on the show’s contract cast list during the closing credits of the December 27, 2022 episode, reports Jason47. In more positive news, Tinker will be on hand for a special episode of “The Young and the Restless” on Wednesday, January 25 that’s dedicated to Tracey E. Bregman who is celebrating 40 years since first appearing on the soap as Lauren Fenmore. On the soap, Tinker portrayed Fenmore Baldwin, Lauren’s son with Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc). Tracey E. Bregman, Zach Tinker Photo by Howard Wise/JPI Studios The special episode finds Lauren receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in Fashion. As she talks about her life and her experiences, viewers will be treated to a colorful retrospective of Lauren’s years on the series. According to the latest issue of TV Guide Magazine, on newsstands now, which features an interview with Bregman conducted by Jim Halterman, one of the highlights of the episode will be Lauren’s romantic life, particularly her 17-year marriage to Michael which remains one of daytime’s longest romantic relationships. With Fenmore the physical embodiment of that successful union, look for some amazing memories. 2. “All American” will be back for a sixth season set to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast season, The CW announced earlier this week. The series, which currently ranks as the network’s highest-rated in Adults 18-49 and the most-watched overall across all platforms, is the first series renewed under new corporate owner Nexstar and the first by Brad Schwartz who took over as president of entertainment in November. “Over the last five seasons, ‘All American’ has established itself as one of the all-time CW flagship franchises,” said Schwartz. “‘All American’ is not only the network’s youngest series, but also the strongest performer when combining all our platforms. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, the entire creative team and the incredible cast for another season of captivating family drama.” From Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios, with executive producers Nkechi Okoro Carroll (“Rosewood,” “The Resident”), Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “You,” “Titans”), Sarah Schechter (“The Flight Attendant,” “You,” “Riverdale”), John A. Norris (“Deception”), Jameal Turner (“Rosewood”), Mike Herro (“One Tree Hill”), and David Strauss (“American Woman”), “All American” follows a rising high school football player from South L.A. who is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High while the wins, losses and struggles of two families from vastly different worlds — South Crenshaw and Beverly Hills — begin to collide. Inspired by the life of pro football player Spencer Paysinger. “All American” stars Daniel Ezra as Spencer James, Taye Diggs (“Guiding Light”) as Billy Baker, Samantha Logan as Olivia Baker, Bre-Z as Coop, Greta Onieogou as Layla Keating, Monet Mazur as Laura Baker, Michael Evans Behling as Jordan Baker, Cody Christian as Asher Adams, Karimah Westbrook as Grace James, Chelsea Tavares as Patience and JJ Parker as Hunter Clowdus. 3. Page Six reports that after 17 seasons in syndication, “The Rachael Ray Show” is on the “chopping block” and will likely conclude its run this season. Citing TV insiders, the publication’s sources say of the Rachael Ray hosted talker, “Her show is ending. This will be the last season.” Another source notes they wouldn’t be surprised if this were the show’s last season because “it hasn’t been doing well for a while. It’s easy to forget that it’s even on.” Rebuking rumors, show sources told Page Six, “This talk comes up every year because the show is renewed yearly. In fact, they’re out there renewing the show right now. There’s never a decision until later in the spring.” Another source pointed out, “They [producers] wouldn’t announce renewal to the staff until maybe March. No one would even know about a renewal until then.” A spokesperson for the show states, “We have not canceled the show.” According to data reported by TVNewsCheck, the show has tied for fourth or fifth place on multiple occasions this season among the daytime syndicated talk shows, averaging a 0.7 rating in households, which, depending on the week, ties it with “The Tamron Hall Show” and/or “The Drew Barrymore Show.” Only “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” “Dr. Phil” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” rate higher in the key ratings category. After kicking off the show’s new season from her home in Italy, Rachael continues to work partly from “the office” and partly “from home” as she’s serving up delicious meals, celebrity surprises, inspiring viewer stories and more from both her NYC studio and her home in upstate New York. Distributed and produced by CBS Media Ventures in association with Harpo Productions, Discovery Inc., and Watch Entertainment, “The Rachael Ray Show” has won three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show. Janet Annino is the Senior Executive Producer. Note: The post RUMOR REPORT: ‘The Rachael Ray Show’ to Conclude After 17 Seasons appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More
  4. For the first time since 2020, “General Hospital” will celebrate the annual Nurses Ball which will include musical performances from the illustrious citizens of Port Charles in dedication to HIV/AIDS awareness. The event is part of the show’s year-long 60th anniversary celebration which kicks off in late March with a special tribute episode dedicated to the late Sonya Eddy and her character Epiphany Johnson. Photo by Craig Sjodin/ABC During the week of April 3, Nurses Ball festivities begin with the show’s fictional characters participating in the glamorous charity event complete with red-carpet fashion. In addition to the Nurses Ball, the show is planning the return of several fan favorites, including Jane Elliot as Tracy Quartermaine in April, when the icons of Port Charles unite to stop a legendary threat from the past. The return of the Nurses Ball and Jane Elliot as Tracy Quartermaine was announced yesterday during ABC’s portion of the Winter Television Critics Association press tour which included cast members from the daytime series appearing before the press. Those in attendance were Donnell Turner (Curtis), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth), Maurice Benard (Sonny), Genie Francis (Laura), Tabyana Ali (Trina), Kristina Wagner (Felicia) and Nicholas Chavez (Spencer). Also in attendance were co-head writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten, and executive producer Frank Valentini. According to a transcript of the panel discussion by Decider writer Brett White, the show is using the Nurses Ball as a jumping point for its 60th anniversary with O’Connor stating, “The best way to honor the past is to use the Nurses Ball as a jumping off point, to bring our beloved cast together, acknowledge the past and set up the future.” “General Hospital” premiered on April 1, 1963 on ABC. The series airs weekdays and is available On Demand and via Hulu. 5. With “Days of our Lives” being the sole nominee in the category of Daytime Drama as part of the 2023 Writers Guild Awards nominations announcement, revealed yesterday by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), the show has become the de facto winner, Soap Opera Network has learned. Courtesy of Writers Guild of America Led by head writer Ron Carlivati, this year’s WGA-winning team for “Days of our Lives” includes writers Lorraine Broderick, Jazmen Darnell Brown, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Cheryl Davis, Kirk Doering, Christopher Dunn, Jamey Giddens, David Kreizman, Ryan Quan, Dave Ryan and Katherine D. Schock. This marks the third consecutive year in which “Days of our Lives” has taken home the award and the fifth win overall for head writer Ron Carlivati. Photo by Chris Haston/NBC In a statement released to Michael Fairman TV, Carlivati said, “My team and I are thrilled to be nominated for the 2023 Writers Guild Award for Daytime. We submitted three scripts from the storyline about Craig’s late-in-life coming out, the impact it had on his wife, Nancy, and of course, his ill-fated romance with the ever-scheming Leo. We felt that these episodes were a good representation of what ‘Days of our Lives’ does best: high-stakes family drama with a comedic twist.” Greg Rikaart, Kevin Spirtas (“Days of our Lives”) Photo by XJJohnson/JPI Studios The aforementioned submitted episodes originally aired on April 19, 2022 (#14320), April 20, 2022 (#14321) and May 4, 2022 (#14331). The last daytime serial to win the award outright was “General Hospital” in 2016 when it was the only drama nominated in the category. The show won again in 2017 and 2018, beating out Carlivati’s “Days of our Lives.” Competing against both “DAYS” and “GH,” “The Young and the Restless” won the award in 2019. The 2023 Writers Guild Awards ceremony is set to take place on Sunday, March 5, 2023, live from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. For a full list of this year’s WGA nominees, click here. 6. Weeks after Sonya Eddy unexpectedly passed away, producers of ABC’s “General Hospital” have formally announced plans to dedicate a special episode set to air in March that will honor the actress who had portrayed Epiphany Johnson on the series since 2006. Our #GH60 celebration will kick off in March with a celebration of her life and her character, the formidable Epiphany Johnson.” The announcement of the special episode comes on the same day executive producer Frank Valentini and cast members from the show appeared before the press during ABC’s portion of the annual Winter Television Critics Association press tour. 14. In advance of his full “60 Minutes” interview, airing tonight, January 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS, immediately following the network’s NFL coverage, the veteran news program has released clips of Anderson Cooper’s conversation with Prince Harry. In them, Harry talks about how he was “incredibly naïve” about how the British press would treat his relationship with his now-wife Meghan Markle. Harry also noted the relationship has given him a new awareness. “What Meghan had to go through was similar in some part to what [Princess] Kate and what [Queen Consort] Camilla went through – very different circumstances,” Harry tells Cooper in one clip. “But then you add in the race element, which was what the press, British press jumped on straight away. I went into this incredibly naïve. I had no idea the British press were so bigoted. Hell, I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan.” In a follow-up, Cooper asked Harry, “You think you were bigoted before the relationship with Meghan?” In his answer, Harry says, “I don’t know.” He further notes, “Put it this way, I didn’t see what I now see.” Harry’s sitdown with Cooper is his first on American television where he talks about the contents of his new memoir, “Spare,” which is set for release on Tuesday, January 10. In talking about why he and Meghan’s move away from the royal family became so public, Harry says, “Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.” He then pointed out, “You know, the family motto is never complain, never explain, but it’s just a motto.” On that note, Cooper comments, “There’s a lot of complaining and a lot of explaining … being done through leaks.” In his answer, Harry says, “They will feed or have a conversation with the correspondent.” He adds, “And that correspondent will literally be spoon-fed information and write the story. And at the bottom of it they will say that they’ve reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment. But the whole story is Buckingham Palace commenting. So, when we’re being told for the last six years, ‘We can’t put a statement out to protect you’… But you do it for other members of the family. It becomes – there becomes a point when silence is betrayal.” Prince Harry’s interview with Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes” airs tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS and will also be available to stream on Paramount+. 15. Nancy Lee Grahn (“General Hospital”) has been tested positive for COVID-19, the actress announced in an Instagram post on Friday, January 6. While sharing a picture of herself lying up in bed, Grahn captioned her post, saying, “Why anyone would willingly and cavalierly put themselves into a position to catch or spread Covid is so unquestionably stupid regarding their own health and thoughtless regarding others. 96% of planes have passengers with Covid. “Very few ppl are masked anywhere now. Americans have made it clear they don’t want to be inconvenienced by them. Ok, but unfortunately it’s not over yet. Thankfully science has found ways to mitigate a lot of dangers but still to not do ur part in preventing the spread of it is callous. No one knows how Covid is going to land on you. In any case, it ain’t fun and you don’t want it. At the very least keep ur masks on in public places. BTW, I’ll be fine… just thought a visual of what Covid looks like in a relatively good scenario would be motivating ( scare you) into putting ur masks back on.” The actress received numerous supportive comments, including Christian Le Blanc (“The Young and the Restless”) who responded to the news with heart emojis. “General Hospital” co-star Tabyana Ali (Trina) said, “Feel better soon.” Former “Santa Barbara” co-star A Martinez commented, “So sorry, sister. Been there, and just gotta say, your voice throughout the seige has been a great inspiration to those of us — like my family — who refuse to roll over to vigilance fatigue. We don’t know what’s down the road. But letting this thing hang around, cuz it’s easier than resisting it, seems insane. Much love to you, homegirl. May you get well soon.” Rebecca Budig (“All My Children” et al.) stated, “Feel better Nancy. It’s intense out there!” With the show still on holiday break, it’s unlikely producers will have to temporarily recast the role of Alexis like they were forced to do in March of last year when actress Stephanie Erb stepped in for Grahn over several episodes after she took time off for back surgery. Grahn returned to work in late April and was back on air in May. Check out Grahn’s message below. 16. Lisa Rinna (“Days of our Lives,” “Melrose Place”) is concluding her eight-season run on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” PEOPLE magazine is reporting. She first joined the reality series in 2014 during the show’s fifth season. In a statement released to PEOPLE, Rinna says, “This is the longest job I have held in my 35-year career and I am grateful to everyone at Bravo and all those involved in the series.” She added, “It has been a fun eight-year run and I am excited for what is to come!” A representative for Rinna notes that after her contract expired at the end of the show’s 12th season, she began “weighing her options and business obligations,” and both Rinna and the NBCUniversal-owned network “mutually decided that she would not return” when the show starts shooting season 13 in the coming weeks. Reportedly, during the most recent BravoCon event, Rinna was greeted with boos from audience members and she flipped them off in response. These acts allegedly stem from an on-air/off-air dispute with co-star Kathy Hilton during filming. 17. “Fire Country” will be back for a second season, CBS announced today. Averaging eight million viewers per episode since its October 7, 2022 premiere, “Fire Country” is the top new broadcast series of the season among Total Viewers. With the inclusion of Live+35 multiplatform viewing, the show’s average goes up to more than 10 million viewers an episode across Linear + Streaming platforms (CBS, linear playback, VOD, Paramount+ and the CBS app). “It’s pretty remarkable to see a new series resonate like this with both broadcast and streaming audiences right out of the gate,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “‘Fire Country’ has so many appealing entry points for the audience. It combines high-stakes action with small town charm, mystery and romance, and a family franchise at its core. We’re blessed to have an incredible team in front of and behind the camera led by amazing producers and writers and an exceptionally talented cast.” “Fire Country” stars Max Thieriot (“Seal Team”) as Bode Donovan, a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates are partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires across the region. It’s a high-risk, high-reward assignment, and the heat is turned up when Bode is assigned to the program in his rural hometown, where he was once a golden all-American son – until his troubles began. Five years ago, Bode burned down everything in his life, leaving town with a big secret. Now he’s back, with the rap sheet of a criminal and the audacity to believe in a chance for redemption with Cal Fire. The series also stars Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer. Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Tia Napolitano, Max Thieriot, Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed are executive producers. The series is produced by CBS Studios.
