ABC’s “General Hospital” will celebrate its 15,000th show on Monday, June 20 (originally scheduled for June 17) with a special standalone episode centering on Mayor Laura Collins, played by Genie Francis who is currently celebrating 45 years since making her debut on the daytime drama series as the iconic character. Meanwhile, in two separate group photos of the show’s cast and crew that were shared on social media during last month’s taping of the episode, actor Jeff Kober was spotted which immediately had fans wondering if they can expect to see the return of Cyrus Renault, Laura’s brother, back in Port Charles. Kober most recently appeared on the soap in December 2021 as the notorious drug runner who had numerous enemies in town, including Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Jack Wagner (“When Calls the Heart,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital”) and Kristina Wagner (“General Hospital”) have established the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of their late son, Harrison Wagner, who died on Monday, June 6. In addition to his parents, Wagner leaves behind an older brother, Peter, and a paternal half-sister, Kerry. He was just 27 years old. A description shared on the New Life House Recovery Community website, an organization that helps young men in recovery and will be handling the fund, “Harrison was a bright, exuberant young man whose smile lit up any room he was in. He has left behind many men and family members who loved him deeply. We are heartbroken that he ultimately lost his battle with addiction and we hope that Harrison’s memory will live on through this scholarship and will help other young men get help for their addiction that would not otherwise be able to afford it.” In 2016, Jack Wagner feared for Harrison’s safety after he’d gone missing for five days.” He tweeted at the time, “I fear for my youngest sons safety. Harrison Wagner The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office website notes that Wagner was pronounced dead on the scene in a parking lot at 5:14 a.m. in the 11200 block of Chandler Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley suburb of North Hollywood. Following an exam, an official cause of death has since been “deferred” pending additional investigation. According to FOX News Digital, the coroner’s office explained, “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies. Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.” Last month, Kristina shared a photo on Instagram of herself and her two boys as they said goodbye to Wagner Ranch, a family destination for 25 years. In the caption for the post, she said, “A bittersweet farewell to the place we called Wagner Ranch for 25 years. Personally, regardless of what was said in the interview, I think the better thing to do was not give interviews until AFTER the death and not give out spoilers that allude to any death on the show. This way viewers all around would be truly shocked by a sudden death of a character as they wondered why someone would kill such a person, especially a young mother. With that said, the reasons for killing Abby don't sit well with me as no one seems to have as valid reason for doing so with the exception of maybe Gwen who shouldn't be able to have committed the crime since she's supposed to be "in prison." I think a shocking murder of a character like Abby would be a great plot twist if done right.

Years after sharing an on-screen romance on “Days of our Lives” when the two played opposite each other as JJ Deveraux and Paige Larson, respectively, actors Casey Moss and True O’Brien made a big announcement on Friday, June 10 when they revealed on social media that they are now engaged. On both their Instagram pages, Moss and O’Brien shared a video montage highlighted by the song “Is This Love” by Whitesnake which showed Moss getting on his bent knee and asking a shocked O’Brien to marry him with a beautiful skyline and a blue ocean surrounding them. In the video, Moss pulls out a dark-colored box holding a diamond engagement ring, which he insists on placing on her finger himself before kissing her hand, later rising and giving her a kiss on the lips. He also lifted her and kissed her on the cheek towards the end of the video. The caption on both of their posts included a by the late actor Robin Williams from the 1997 film “Good Will Hunting” wherein he played a psychologist named Sean Maguire. The quote reads, “People call these things imperfections, but they’re not. That’s the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. Oh, that’s the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. You’re not perfect, sport. And let me save you the suspense: this girl you met, she isn’t perfect either. The 19th and final season of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” concluded on a high note during the week of May 23-27, 2022, attracting its best weekly household average of the 2021-2022 television season with a 1.3 rating, up +18% from one week earlier, reports TVNewsCheck. The final episode which aired on Thursday, May 26 attracted a 1.8 household rating, a 30% improvement over the same period one year ago and a 64% increase from the previous Thursday. Despite the improved numbers, “Ellen” remained in third place among all daytime syndicated talk shows in households, behind perennial leaders “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (1.6 rating) and “Dr. Phil” (1.5 rating). Among Women 25-54, the primary sales demo for daytime syndicated programming, “Ellen” had a 0.4 rating, the same as one week earlier, and also placing it in third place behind “Live with Kelly and Ryan” which ranked first with a 0.6 rating and “Dr. Phil” which ranked second with a 0.5 rating. “Ellen” was flat week to week, same with “Dr. Phil.” Meanwhile, “Live with Kelly and Ryan” was up 20% week to week. Having been designated as the heir apparent to “Ellen” on most NBC stations beginning this fall with her moving to the later afternoon time slot DeGeneres had held for years, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” ranked fourth for the week among daytime syndicated talkers with a 0.8 rating, flat week to week. Acting technique aside, the way it happened you'd think Chad would immediately be a suspect since the husband is always the first suspect by (competent) police and considering he tampered with the body by moving Abby it would be the best dramatic direction to take for this storyline.

On Wednesday, June 15, actor Lucas Adams will wrap his latest run as Tripp Dalton on “Days of our Lives.” His exit is storyline dictated. In an exit interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Adams told the publication he was both surprised and not surprised by the character’s departure. “I was definitely more prepared for it,” he noted, “I didn’t know where my character was going, especially when [the Allie/Tripp/Chanel triangle] was over.” Explaining further, he shared that “Tripp was mostly the third wheel, so it totally made sense storyline-wise. But it did surprise me, because we just had that whole storyline of Tripp dying and being brought back [to life]. I guess Tripp is not someone who sticks around all the time. He needs to stretch his wings every now and then.” Despite the character’s planned exit from Salem after saying his goodbyes to his mother and father, Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Ava (Tamara Braun), among others, viewers shouldn’t be surprised when they see the actor playing the role again in Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” the Peacock exclusive spinoff series which premieres next month with five all-new episodes. Considering the mothership series tapes anywhere from four to six months ahead of air date, and “Beyond Salem” wrapped production early last month after a few weeks of taping, the time gap will be short for viewers but not for Adams. “It was only a couple of months after I ended ‘DAYS,’ so it was like I never really left,” the actor said of reprising the role on the streaming-only series. “I was really excited, because I love everybody there. After playing the role of Abigail Deveraux DiMera off and on since 2016, actress Marci Miller is exiting “Days of our Lives.” On the Friday, June 10 episode of the daytime series, the character was found dead by her husband, Chad (Billy Flynn), just hours after the couple had made love. The circumstances behind Abby’s death will kick off a murder mystery arc involving multiple characters thought to be the culprit, including her uncle Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) who’s on an alcoholic bender and often can’t recall his actions, half-sister Gwen (Emily O’Brien) even though she’s currently in prison, and nemesis Leo (Greg Rikaart) who’s out for revenge against those who played a part in Craig (Kevin Spirtas) ultimately deciding not to marry him – Abby helped Sonny (Zach Tinker) and Chad in exposing Leo’s lies. In addition to the aforementioned three, there are also going to be more potential culprits who could be behind Abby’s death, the fact of which won’t be known right away, notes head writer Ron Carlivati to Soap Opera Digest in the magazine’s newest issue, on newsstands now. In the interview, he explains the reasons behind killing the legacy character and reveals that this particular death will feel permanent to viewers because it’s being written that way. “For us and for the audience, it’s always heartbreaking for a character to die because we love these characters, and they are part of our lives and part of our family,” says Carlivati. “Even though it’s fictional, it hurts anytime we kill somebody. In this instance, it was mostly for a practical reason because Marci [Miller, Abigail] was not going to be available to us full-time on contract and it made it challenging to tell story for Chad and Abigail. So we didn’t really have the option to have Abigail around, and then that always becomes a problem when one-half of a couple is not going to be available to you. What’s the solution at that point?” After sharing a few possible solutions to the show’s dilemma, none of which seemed appropriate considering the remaining half of the couple would be left in flux waiting for the other character to be brought back, the writer told the magazine, “So again, your options become very limited and one option, of course, is for the character to die, which does ultimately free up the other person.” Carlivati added, “But it is a hard, hard decision. That was a hard decision among the writers, with the network, with Corday Productions, with everyone, and we ultimately decided to do it. And also, we decided to do it knowing that we’re not saying it’s not a permanent death, but there is always that possibility that death is not permanent, especially on a soap opera and especially in Salem, so you feel that maybe you’re not closing off the future of that character forever. That said, this is not going to be an instance of the car going off the cliff and you don’t see the person again. Unfortunately, that option would also cause a conflict for the soap as she too hasn’t been interested in staying on with a long-term contract. “Kate has been willing to come back, but may not necessarily want to come back on contract, so you risk being in the exact same position that then Kate leaves and what do we do?” questions Carlivati. “Then the option would be to recast yet again with someone who maybe is willing to be here on a more permanent basis, but then you’re dealing with a new face. We’ve been very lucky in recasting Abigail, but you don’t always know if that’s going to work. So ultimately, we decided to kill the character.” Fans can look for the returns of Matthew Ashford and Cady McClain as Abby’s parents, Jack and Jennifer beginning Tuesday, June 14 when they learn of their daughter’s death. Additionally, while the character has died, in classic soap opera fashion don’t be surprised to see Miller appear in flashback scenes as the details behind who killed Abby, why they did it, and how it happened begins to unravel on-screen. Between Mansi and Miller, the two actresses have received a combined five Daytime Emmy nominations with Mansi winning for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the character in 2017. She was later nominated in 2019 for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for the role. Meanwhile, Miller has been nominated three times for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her take on the character, including a nomination this year. A family tragedy will force Jack and Jennifer back to Salem next week, and with that fans can look forward to the returns of Matthew Ashford and Cady McClain in the roles beginning Tuesday, June 14, Soap Opera Network can confirm. Ashford last appeared as Jack on the daytime soap in May alongside Melissa Reeves who has played the role of Jennifer off and on since 1985. Due to a scheduling conflict, McClain will take over this time for the upcoming story arc which finds Salem mourning a beloved individual. McClain won a Daytime Emmy in 2021 for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for her portrayal. She previously portrayed the role of Jennifer on “Days of our Lives” from September 2020 to March 2021 when the character appeared for a brief telephone call from Boston after departing Salem in February 2021 following the death of the character’s mother, Laura Horton. Reeves reprised the role in December 2021 and has appeared sporadically until May 2022. No stranger to daytime soaps, McClain had roles on “All My Children,” “As The World Turns” and “The Young and the Restless.” She also appeared in episodes of “St. Elsewhere,” “Cheers,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” In real-life, she’s married to “General Hospital” star Jon Lindstrom. The two married on Valentine’s Day 2014. After two previous attempts didn’t go so well, “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Krista Allen, who plays Taylor Hayes on the daytime drama series, was finally able to shoot a photo that fits into the aesthetic of the show’s opening credits sequence. Last week, Allen teased fans with what to expect when the photo gets added in, tweeting, “We did it!” along with a first look at the photo. When a fan asked what took so long, and wondered if the camera broke due to Allen’s “amazing energy,” the actress noted, “first shoot, the damn wig ate my face and I looked like a homeless sheepdog, [the] second shoot we had tech/lighting issues and lost most of the shots … so … FriYAY we get round 3!” The successful shoot finally took place on Friday, June 3, Allen shared, stating, “Casey [Kasprzyk, supervising producer] found an opening in my schedule and is making it happen!! Fresh off his two-season run on the comedy series “The United States of Al,” actor Parker Young has been cast as a lead opposite Michaela McManus (“SEAL Team,” “You”) in ABC’s new drama pilot, “Criminal Nature,” from 20th Television and A+E Studios. The potential series is described as a soapy procedural set in America’s great outdoors and revolves around the tangled, messy lives of ISB agents — an elite law enforcement unit responsible for solving all serious crimes that occur in our country’s 81,000 square miles of protected land. Disney | ABC Television Group According to Deadline, Parker will play Clay, the ex-boyfriend of McManus’ character, Audrey. “As much of a cowboy as he is a cop, Clay knows more about the Wild Flower Killer than anyone else alive, and he’s been temporarily reassigned to Audrey’s team for the duration of their current investigation,” reads a character description. “Clay has always regretted letting Audrey, the love of his life, go — and he now intends to put up a fight for her — even though she’s engaged to Keldon, another Park Service agent.” Previously, “Criminal Nature” had been in development under the working title “Untitled National Parks Project” and is being written by producer Rashad Raisani. The project is being filmed off-cycle and is a new take on the same concept ABC ordered to pilot last season from a different creative team that included Kevin Costner (“Yellowstone”), Deadline notes. “The Bold and the Beautiful” alum Reign Edwards stars in the new film “Love You Anyway” which, using the evolving format of home video, chronicles a young girl from birth to womanhood as she struggles with depression while being forced to find the will to survive with the help of those closest to her, particularly childhood best friend, Lucas (Charlie Gillespie). The cast also includes Gillian White and Akira Akbar. The movie is set for release on Tuesday, June 28 via most major digital platforms, including Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and other On Demand services. CBS is hoping viewers will “Feel the Heat” this summer on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” with the release of a new marketing campaign that takes its cue directly from the popular 1980s campaign of the same name that eventually led to the network becoming the dominant player in the daytime arena for more than three decades. The song “Some Like It Hot” by Robert Palmer is also returning. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, starting tonight CBS will begin airing the updated “Feel the Heat” campaign which will not only be used to promote the soaps but will also be utilized in the promotion of the network’s “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right” and “The Talk.” If you’re pleased to hear that the network is giving daytime a marketing campaign and airing it in primetime to boot, you might also be happy to hear that the idea behind the campaign came from high up at CBS, courtesy of CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl. “He stumbles upon things and we share with each other,” said President and Chief Marketing Officer Mike Benson in a statement released to Deadline, recalling his discussion with the network’s president. “Kelly was cracking up look [sic] at the old spots from daytime, and so I asked why can’t we bring that back in some way?” He added, “Nostalgia is really resonating with audiences today. People want to go back in a time that they remember when life was different and simpler.” To keep things familiar, the network decided to not only repackage the campaign idea but to keep the song choice intact. “When you use music in your marketing, it’s a shortcut to emotional engagement, especially to audiences who remember songs like that,” Benson noted. Weeks after its pre-taped upfront presentation, FOX has finally announced its fall schedule with premiere dates. Musical drama “Monarch,” which was supposed to debut during the 2021-2022 television season before the network opted instead to push it to the 2022-2023 television season, premieres with a special two-night event, beginning Sunday, September 11, immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader. The series will then slide into its regularly scheduled time period, Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Tuesday, September 20. Returning for its sixth season, medical drama “The Resident” will lead off the night at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. A Texas-sized, multi-generational musical drama about America’s first family of country music, “Monarch” follows the Roman family which is headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman (Susan Sarandon) and her beloved husband, “Texas Truthteller” Albie Roman (Trace Adkins). In the series, Dottie and Albie have created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. During the week of May 30-June 3, 2022, ABC’s “General Hospital” (2.216 million) not only regained the top spot among the network’s daytime broadcast shows in terms of Total Viewers, but it was also the week’s biggest gainer, adding +128,000 viewers week to week. In fact, the soap was also up compared to its performance during the same week last year, gaining +38,000 viewers. Overall, only the two half hours of “The Price is Right” (3.852 million / 4.412 million) also saw week to week gains among Total Viewers. Despite losing viewers, down -61,000 week to week, “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.619 million) was up by an impressive +203,000 viewers year over year while both “The Young and the Restless” (3.466 million) and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.015 million) continued to outshine their year ago performances. The folks in Genoa City saw a year to year bump of 300,000 viewers, the most for any daytime broadcast series even though it shed a mere -7,000 viewers week to week. Meanwhile, the folks in Los Angeles continue their streak of over three million daily viewers, adding +236,000 viewers over last year even with a week to week decrease of -82,000 viewers. “The View” (2.134 million) took a ratings hit despite airing a memorable 25th-anniversary reunion between the show’s original co-hosts Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Debbie Matenopoulos at the Essex House in New York City. The show was down -286,000 viewers week to week and down -178,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Even though it aired just two episodes last week (Tuesday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 1), “Days of our Lives” (1.556 million) continues to shed viewers, losing -37,000 of them week to week. Interestingly, the soap was down by just -8,000 viewers year to year when it aired without preemptions. With the exception of both half hours of “The Price is Right” and “3rd Hour TODAY” (viewership figures unavailable at press time), which had their Memorial Day numbers included in their weekly averages, holiday numbers are excluded from the weekly averages for the remaining daytime shows and will not factor into each show’s respective season average. When nominations were announced last month for “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and CBS had not revealed which categories would be presented during the Friday, June 24 broadcast and which categories would be presented during the Creative Arts & Lifestyle Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony taking place on Saturday, June 18, instead indicating that the final determination of categories being presented on either night would be shared at a later date. That has since changed. Soap Opera Network has learned that the two-hour CBS telecast that’ll also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+ will include the presentation of 15 Daytime Emmy Awards, including the five drama performer categories, Drama Series, Drama Series Writing, Drama Series Directing, Game Show, Game Show Host, Informative Talk Show, Entertainment Talk Show, Informative Talk Show Host, Entertainment Talk Show Host, and the Lifetime Achievement Award which will be presented to “Days of our Lives” icon John Aniston who portrays Victor Kiriakis on the series.
