Members R!ck
Any fans of the Divine Miss "Divine" of John Waters fame? Well after Polyester wrapped, Divine started performing in Discoteques and recorded a slew of Techno CD's in Europe. The only One I have seen is "Walk Like A Man" on VH1 Classic a few months ago. I have never seen the other videos, since they were never released in the US. Thank God for youtube! Members Bree
Divine also did a song called "Native Love" that I have on a disco collection CD. It's a great song.

Members JERSoapsFan
I'm sorry, you actually own something by this person? Oh. WOW. I generally wouldn't want to knock someone's personal preference, and I don't mean for this to be offensive but, this person has NO talent whatsoever. I'll give him one thing, though: the "Divine" persona is like a train wreck that youjust have to watch because it's so freakish and weird. True to form, I can't peel my eyes away from the screen and have even Googled "Divine" to learn more. (Totally didn't know Ursula in "The Little Mermaid" was modeled off of this person.) But actually LISTENING to something this person sang, without the visuals? Wow. That's just human tortue. It suuuuuucks! And, like Drew said, that is some FREAKY [!@#$%^&*]. Members R!ck
Divine knew he didn't have any singing talent, but he didn't care. It was just a cabaret comedy act and he got paid good money. He was HUGE in Europe during the early and mid 80's Divine started the over- the-top Drag you see in clubs nowadays, and every good Queen will tell you "Divine is the original Queen of Drag" JER, Have you seen Hairspray? You may recognize Divine as Tracy's (Ricki Lake) mom Edna Turnblad? He also did a spaghetti western with Lainie Kazan and Tab Hunter, called "Lust In The Dust" Sure do Hairspray Polyester Out of the Dark Female Trouble Pink Flamingos Multiple Maniacs Mondo Trasho Divine Trash The Cockettes - VHS In Bad Taste - VHS Lust in the Dust - VHS The E! Members JERSoapsFan
Maybe I was too naive when I first saw that film (probably about 12, 13 years old), but I did NOT get 'man' from Edna Turnblad. This is blowing my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Members JERSoapsFan
Oh my LORD, Rick. I checked out that site you posted. Um, did you know one of the most disgusting things your idol is famous for? Because I just read that one the site and it grossed me out more than anything ever has. And they act like this is something for which to earn fame. It's so scandalous, nasty and unhealthy...my gosh, Iwant to vomit just thinking about it! And wasnt' that a wide released film, too? Did they show that [!@#$%^&*] (no pun intended) in theaters?...??? I'm sorry, never mind, I was thinking about some other film. Apparently this was a much smaller cult film. But still, that's just unseemly!
Members R!ck
Unfortunatly, I know what Divine is the most famous for. I have also seen it and almost vomited myself. Yes it was shown in theaters (wide release) The film budget was 12,000 bucks, and it grossed 6 million at the box office. though John will not say how much it has made to date, he does say well into the hundreds of millions. Also the original trailer for Pink Flamingos did not feature any scenes from the movie, only movie patrons being interviewed about the disgusting film. They don't call it "An excersise in Poor Taste" and "One of the most vile repulsive films ever made" for nothing. In the commentary for the film, The director John Waters said they called in a doctor to see it it was okay for Divine to eat dog [!@#$%^&*], The doctor said it would not hurt him, if they fed the poodle steak and eggs for 2 days beforehand. Yuck Yuck Yuck Don't wanna think about it LOL

Members Toadstool
re-read Rick's second to last paragraph. My favorite Divine scene is Dawn Davenport on Christmas morning in Female Trouble. The first time I saw it I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

Members Toadstool
Dawn Davenport: WHAT are THESE? Mrs. Davenport: Those are your new shoes, Dawn! Dawn Davenport: Those aren't the right kind, I told you cha cha heels, black ones! Mr. Davenport: Nice girls don't wear cha cha heels! Dawn Davenport: Gimmie those presents, I'll never wear those ugly shoes! I told you the kind I wanted! You ruined my Christmas! Members R!ck
Love that quote Toadstool, Now I want to go watch Female Trouble lol A few Aunt Ida quotes... Queers are just better. I'd be so proud if you was a fag. The world of the heterosexual is a sick and boring life. And remember my offer still stands. If you get tired of being a Hare Krishna, you come live with me and be a lesbian! Dribbles: I know, but I just like to play with her. I wish I was a little girl. Sally: Well, throw a goddamn penny in a fountain and make a goddamn wish and maybe it'll come true.
Members JERSoapsFan
I don't get any of those jokes. It all sounds just a little too weird for me. And now knowing what I do about Mr. Waters, I can't understand how anyone could take him seriously. He seems more than just a little messed up, after reading some of his quotes.. Put it this way: he's more terrifying to me than Michael Jackson.
