I don't know if you've watched today's episode yet, but I think there are lots of fun ways they could have written a scene where Laura calls Ric out on his past misdeeds and tells him he's not good enough for Elizabeth. But that's not the way they went; instead it was all about how Ric needed to cancel his romantic getaway with Liz in order to protect her from Sidwell, and I just found the whole thing insipid. And, I'm sad to say, not very convincingly acted by Genie Francis.

Unpopular opinion: Laura is the matriarch of GH, but the show would go on if she were written out tomorrow. Her character is so underwhelming and aimless. She moves from one plot point to the next (Ace, Heather, Esme, Lucky's bust return, Dalton and the worst mayor on record) without it meaning anything on the canvas. They need to kill off Nikolas and give her some interesting material.

-- I agree with you. I've found Laura insufferable for a good while, and she just gets worse and worse.

As you said, there was a way to write those scenes with Ric that would have made sense. What we saw did not. She just comes off as a complicit criminal who wants to pass judgment on others' crimes -- while moralizing. She has to be the most compromised mayor in America.

And don't get me started on the stupid reasoning for sending Kevin and the kid out of the country. Jesus.

It just feels like everything with Laura is forced. Are they just fulfulling her contract guarantee? Because the writing sucks and she's not turning any of that ish into sugar.

Yeah, Steve's lived in Nashville for a while. He probably had two homes but I remember SOD articles about he and his wife living next to Missy and Scott Reeves.

We've already seen her mourn dead (or "dead") kids and I didn't think it was very interesting. I don't know what I would do with Laura.

I think Laura was integral in 2023 and around that general period during the Spencer era. People would run everything in town short of bathroom breaks by "Mayor Collins" and I thought it was a hoot, and good for her character to stay connected. Since then she's faltered, probably due to FV's lack of favor.

Does Laura have ethical lapses? Sure. Her character is in a particularly bad spot atm with Sidwell. But given Luke the small time gangland runner and rapist ending up mayor, Mac the merc and Anna the enemy agent becoming police commissioners (to say nothing of spy turned high end con man Sean Donely) and both Scott and Ric taking turns as DA, I think her position is pretty typical for soap realism. I think Laura should take a hit and maybe lose the seat for awhile to someone like Ric, then get it back.

in other news: I still have a hard time believing Elizabeth is letting Ric put it in again after all these years. That's crazy to me. I can't really comprehend it. Are we sure they're not just going on trips where he tries to put on Next's "Too Close" and she just smiles and says goodnight?

I like how Sonny is like “Sidwell has proven tough to beat.” For real? Sonny, you and Jason used to bang with dudes every 4-6 weeks on these docks like you were filing quarterly taxes. Sidwell takes brunch with Lucy and goes to Aladdin Night. He lost a poker game to Lucky. He is not that threatening. The most he has done is pan-fry Michael and Sonny has somehow let that slide. Would not happen BITD!

I'm at work and it's 12:48am. My co-coworker is giving me this look because I let out the loudest laugh just now.

After Spencer/Esme died Laura began to be moved back off the center of the show. Personally I don’t think Mulcahey had an affinity for Laura and it showed when he was first there trying to restructure the show.

The later attempts to rebuild her family with Lulu and Lucky were mixed as far as adding more for Laura to do beyond Mayor. And that was entirely due to mismanagement with Jonathan Jackson. She is in a holding pattern, and they need an actual story that is told onscreen consistently again. But not a romantic pairing with Ezra Boyle.

As far as questionable ethics, well nobody on GH since Guza was there has been fully morally upstanding. Maybe Georgie Jones, but she’s been dead a long time!

Every time Liz and Ric are on together I keep asking is this a thing still? I even liked Liz/Ric back in the day too. It feels like Liz is far too old and wise to be dealing with Ric again and they appear so infrequently I legitimately forget they are a "couple?" Sort of.

As far as Sonny/Jason beating Sidwell? He's tough to beat if you don't even try lol. Have they done anything to actually stop him ever?

With Laura, I think they need to finally cut the cord with Kevin, but no romance with Ezra. I am totally fine with her being mayor and her questionable ethics. I think always saying Kevin and Ace are out of town limit her story wise.

Also, are BLQ and Chase super dumb? Ethan asked them an entire laundry list of questions about Delilah and the baby and they weren't suspicious at all? No single man is that interested in a kid lol.

I can't believe you have to ask this. All evidence on screen for the past few years points to a strong "Yes".

I know. Lol.

I really fear for the PCPD at this point.

We did hear something about scenes being cut for Laura and Aiden I thought, but regardless Laura's gotten too little to do since 2024. She has a bit more now but the material is not great.

I listen to the Jeff Lewis radio show (IYKYK), and he has Cam Mathison on 1-2 times a month, which I love. I just listened to his last appearance on April 21 and it was quite interesting. Jeff doesn't watch GH, but he loves to ask about what his character is doing these days and they've known Drew has been limited to blinking his eyes in a chair lately which makes them laugh. Anyway, they asked if he's still just blinking and Cam said:

Spoiler

He recently filmed and he's still just blinking in a chair, so we shouldn't expect to see Drew changing in a long time (given their filming schedule). He said he's been blinking for 4 months and he's tired of it. He was super thankful and positive overall, like he always is, but he did say he emailed Frank for a story meeting and is waiting on a response. He said he normally never does this, but it was time. He said it shouldn't hurt his position on the show because he and Frank are long-time friends, so he's hopeful Frank will be ok with the meeting.

Personally, this drives me crazy knowing the story doesn't seem to be progressing beyond blinking all summer.

Cameron better hope he doesn't get the Uncle Frank freezeout!

I think it's a little presumptuous for Cam to assume Drew has a long shelf life ahead considering his been blinking for half a year just because Frank is his bud. But CM has done a lot of non soap work and is pretty employable so it might be true.
