Thoughts on today’s CDN episode

Spoiler

This was a solid episode. First time in awhile I watched the entire thing without feeling the need to FF even once. As people have mentioned on this board before though, we can always depend on the vets to bring it and it says more about the actors than the writing.

Jill being at the Ranch with Nikki was definitely the highlight. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Jill there, if ever? Nikki and Jill had a tender moment which quickly escalated to being catty and I would have expected nothing less. It’s nice that Katherine is ironically the one thing that can bring these two together to find common ground these days considering their history. I hope Jill sticks around for a while even if it’s for this stupid Cane drama.

I even enjoyed Phyllis’ scenes with Victor and Nick. Phyllis these days seems to actually be in character more so than she has in awhile, I just wish this new drive Phyllis has didn’t have to involve Cane.. and if it’s true that we are heading towards a Cane/Lily/Phyllis triangle I’m going to be even more disappointed. Let’s stop pretending this woman is still 35 years old PLEASE.

The weakest part of the show has to be the Daniel and Tessa scenes with Sharon at the coffee house.. and it’s not because of the actors at all, but the writing is just atrocious. We are supposed to go along with this whole Mariah s/l through the retelling of events from Tessa? I know I mentioned it the other day but why wasn’t any of these hotel scenes shown? All the drama just happened off screen? It’s insane. It’s nice to have Sharon back on my screen again though.. more of that, please.

Also is Esther supposed to be Sharon’s new sidekick? I don’t necessarily hate it. I just wonder when they became friends. Again, I understand I’ve probably missed a lot because like I said I do tend to FF a lot (or just not watch at all) for extended periods of time.

The actors are not the problem, although some of the characters have had their day.

The writing and production is the problem.

There is really only one storyline and that is Cane's return and his supposed threats to GC businesses. Most of the other characters discuss the possible implications.

But so far there has been zero impact, just alliances being sought etc

It's boring.

Other 'stories' like Mariah's secret are barely mentioned and played offscreen.

A bunch of characters -Adam/Chelsea, Devon/Abby, Michael/Lauren get crumbs.

And having sometimes only 3 sets per ep and very little movement in the hour makes for tough viewing.

How the #1 show ended up the worst written, produced and budgeted is a mystery.

I am catching up on this soap; I am in August, and everything is very fragmented, but the acting is strong, especially from Camryn Grimes and Amelia Heinle.

Damn. Was trying to catch up on September, but because today is the "season premiere", Paramount Plus dropped all of the episodes from streaming. Dang.

Has anyone felt any influence yet by JFP since she's been back? I know she's not popping up in the credits but has there been any changes anyone has felt since she's been back this September?!

Aside from the new Newman ranch and the redone Abbott mansion, I can't think of anything Phelps has done.

If you hadn't tuned in for a year and then watched a recent episode, you might say "The show looks good" without realizing how few sets we see every week and how static everything is. The writing is worse than it was when she arrived. Stories are arguably worse.

Either JFP has no power, has run out of ideas, or this show is hamstrung by the budget and nothing can be done.

Thank the Lord that Jess Walton has returned. I wonder how/why she is finally back onscreen? But for how long?

The story sucks but Jess elevates the material.

Y&R, I just don't understand how anyone would think this show has any long-term story direction. JG writes arc's that are not even that compelling to begin with. It's all boring business stories and mix matched couples. The writers need to be completely overhauled.

All this Jill talk is going to make me watch. Hush. lol. 😜

But to answer a question @Ryanc2

Spoiler

I would assume that Sharon and Esther are close now because she's been in charge of Crimson Lights for so long when Sharon is busy with other stuff.

How many episodes has Jess been in? I’m tempted to watch for her.

She returned on August 6 and September 30, but episodes are only available beginning with October 7, due to licensing rights with Paramount+. So, start with October 7.

JW has been in quite a few episodes so far actually. A lot of them are with Cane (bleh) but she has some with Nikki and Victor too.

His socials have been a mess. He is spiralling.

Yes, they have. It is very sad to see. But I am glad he has suffered a consequence (via this arrest) for his addictions and his behaviour as a result of those addictions.
