I know this is just Tamara Tunie's word and it might not be the same as MV, but man does this just further messes up the timeline. So, The Articulettes was a popular girl group with enough hits to support a reunion concert (songs which we've heard that sound very New Jack Swing), which she then left and had a successful run of jazz albums, in addition to an acting career that earnt her the EGOT. Then she met Vernon and put everything on hold to have their children, who are now in their late 40s / early 50s, so sometime in the first part of the 1970s she essentially "retired".

I did a double take when we got to Peter Evans, convinced he was either Peter Scolari or Dack Rambo with an assumed name.

9 to 5 (TV series) - Wikipedia
Jane Fonda, who also developed the film version, acted as executive producer during the show's first two seasons. However, she disassociated herself after a dispute over the direction of the show. Her co-producer Bruce Gilbert went with her. Prior to the start of Season 3, veteran TV actor and producer James Komack stepped in to helm the show in their stead. His vision for the show included many changes, which tried to add a new angle without taking the premise away from the original movie and TV format.
The Fonda character of Judy Bernly, portrayed by Valerie Curtin, was written out for the purposes of replacing her with a younger, 20-something secretary, Linda Bowman (Leah Ayres). She instantly became friends with Violet and Doralee, so much that she subsequently became a roommate of theirs in Violet's apartment. Also inhabiting this living arrangement was Violet's 12-year-old son Tommy (played by Tony La Torre, in between his stints on CBS' oft-cancelled Cagney & Lacey). Salesman Nussbaum was also replaced, by Michael Henderson (George Deloy), and Komack also dropped office snoop Roz. Additionally, the company setting changed from Consolidated Companies to American House.
The revamp caused an instant decline in the ratings, falling to 75th out of 76 shows, and the series was cancelled five episodes into the new season. As ABC decided to pull the plug on 9 to 5 just a month into the season, only five episodes were broadcast in the 1983–84 season, with two episodes remaining unaired.
The various openings cycling through 500 cast members (many of the people in the syndicated version I have never even heard of). I'm not sure if I dislike that or the nuclear holocaust season 2 opening more - probably the last one, as the season 2 opening at least has some good comic faces for Rita Moreno and Jean Marsh. Actually, I think I dislike the season 3 open even more.

When it came to The Cosby Show, you actually merged the two Wilma Bern actresses. Eileen Heckart and Elaine Stritch both happened to have done the sitcom, and both acted opposite Keshia Knight Pulliam. Eileen played Rudy's friend, who wasn't taking her medication. Elaine played Rudy's teacher.

Programming any series against the #1 show is difficult. Obviously you counter program, which ABC had tried at the start of the season with Lottery.
Masquerade had already failed up against strong competition so there was no reason to believe it would do anything more than mediocre numbers up against Dallas. And NBC was also going with action shows-The Master/Legmen.
ABC should have split up Benson/Webster and moved Webster to 8pm and Benson till 9 against Dallas. Comedy would have been the best counter programming and Benson was familiar to audiences.

Joan Crawford

I just found out that the song "I'm still here" is loosely based on Joan's life. @DRW50 linked me to a performance of it in the OLTL topic and one thing led to another... and here is what I found out on the internet.
"I'm Still Here" is a famous showstopper from the 1971 Stephen Sondheim musical Follies, often associated with Joan Crawford because Sondheim later stated he wrote it with her enduring career in mind, particularly her transition from ingénue to film noir icon. The song highlights survival, resilience, and navigating fame.
While written for the show, Sondheim later mentioned in his memoir that the song was inspired by watching Joan Crawford’s filmography, particularly her career arc through "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"
"She [Crawford] started as a silent film-star, then she became a sound-star, and she eventually became superannuated and started to do camp movies [...] she became a joke on and of herself, but she survived." This shows up in the line 'First you're another sloe-eyed vamp/ Then someone's mother/ then you're camp/ then you career from career to career/ I'm almost through my memoirs/ and I'm here!"

Hey @Maxim! It's interesting you reminded us of the 'headline of the week' style they had going a few months back. That was equally problematic in my view. We went from one extreme to the other. While the show is still wholesome and watchable, certainly not offensive, it's not must-watch TV. You piling up 10 episodes to catch up says a lot in that sense.

To be fair, the first episode of Masquerade on Fridays did get a 15.2 rating, which was the highest rating it had scored. Of course, Dallas was off and the following week it just bombed out. But they might've seen it as counter-programming - a show that's just fundamentally different than Dallas might get people who don't want to watch it tune in. Simon & Simon (in combo with Magnum PI) aired on CBS on Thursdays, which seemingly would target the same audience as Masquerade.
But the best option would've just to have put it on another day alltogether from the beginning, especially with the price tag attached.
