Just finished the episode. Things got worse.

-- Mariah showed up at Crimson Lights after her work trip so she could see Tessa. Huh? She said she stopped at home first to see Aria.

-- Tessa was surprised to see her, so how did she know Tessa was there? And why did Mariah have a dozen things to do regarding work when she just got back from a work trip? All so contrived.

-- Billy left his meeting at the GCAC with Phyllis, only to return and sit at the bar. Why? Oh, so Daniel can conveniently show up and talk to him. Neither of them get a drink and Billy leaves. So why did Billy even go there? Contrived.

On the plus side, it was great to see CG again. It's also a plus when Mariah is obviously hiding something. The whole I need to get back to work, evasiveness... Hopefully this secret is actually something significant and not another tease.

The Billy/Phyllis split is so forced. Billy just saved Phyllis. And like Phyllis, Billy is an outsider and they've always understood each other. Billy knows she's gone through major trauma so his natural instinct would be to try to *save* Phyllis while risking his thing with Sally. If Billy was actually maturing, I'd buy it. However, we know that's not the case since he's teaming with Dumas to take back CI and to get revenge on Adam/Victor.

I get the show taking a breather after 9 months of Sharon being terrorized, Heather's death, Ian/Jordan and then Alan, but the last two weeks have been too much of ... nothing.

Drinking game - take a swig everytime someone says Abbott Communications.

Billy firing Phyllis is perfectly understandable on a number of levels, and her pitiful pleas only reinforce the common sense of that decision.

Her 'I need this job'pleas are pathetic. This is the woman who operated a major hotel, which she sold on a whim, but must have pocketed some $$$ and is apparently a computer whiz but is being written as Suzie Sadsack...

And we are supposed to buy that she has been affected by the kidnap saga, when she has survived and initiated similar stuff in the past and emerged unscathed.

Back to the set situation-Josh is informed they are cutting back on sets to a few homes and eateries so he decides to keep writing stories about businesses, takeovers and corporate intrigue without an office or staff in sight. Smart thinking Josh.

I just finished this epi as well. Tbf about Billy, he went to the club to work out in the gym when Phyllis made him sit and talk (and he fired her). Billy then went downstairs to work out, then came back up to sit at the bar. Just sayin', that's why he came back.

And what is Tess doing sitting at the coffee shop all the time now? First she was doing a crossword puzzle. Next time she told Daniel she was scratching out some lyrics to a new song or some such. Why isn't she at home with her freaking daughter? Or at work at Society? Really, the coffee shop for Tess too?

    • Kelly looks so good in today’s episode (taped mid-March). I’ve always maintained Kelly looks fab in blue, and when they keep her hair straight like this. When they curl her hair, I feel it doesn’t suit her beautiful face.

    • Thank you @BoldKara. I hadn’t realised it’s only a few months away with the current YouTube uploads. I’m happy to wait until then - hopefully they won’t skip the episode this time around.
    • Am I the only one welcoming the preemptions because I've been mad busy and have to catch up on over a week of episodes? Just saying.

    • No. Agnes Nixon had worked on a number of shows before creating OLTL (and AMC, which she had in her drawer waiting to come to life). AW was only one of them. Many classic soaps have personnel coming across back and forth all over the map, it's not a unique situation. And to my knowledge very few of the head creative teams at AW came to OLTL. If you're thinking of Harding Lemay, he did only a very brief consulting stint in '98 and maybe '99, and clearly had little actual impact on the writing. Paul Rauch was also a different EP at AW than he was at OLTL, GL, Santa Barbara, Y&R, etc. Nor do I recall him bringing many writers with him. Nor did his work at those shows resemble his time with Lemay at AW AFAIC. Frankly '70s Rauch and '80s Rauch seem like night and day. Beyond Rauch, the only two examples of key AW additions I know of would be first when George Reinholt and Jacquie Courtney jumped from AW to OLTL in the '70s. They were debatably the first daytime supercouple (some might cite Penny and Jeff from ATWT), and the show attempted to recreate that with new characters at OLTL to garner ratings. This was not unique to these shows; many soaps attempted the same trick after them. It might've worked but Reinholt's behavior once again drove him to quit and/or be fired. Robin Strasser was hired several years later as Dorian, but not opposite them in any triangle. Reinholt was long gone. JFP would be the other example and the only one who actively tried to model it after AW, bringing over several of her favorite actors from AW and several other shows she'd worked on in 1998-99. She was accused of trying to remake her AW at OLTL, but it was a poor fit because of their being very different. (She tried the same at GH.) I don't think OLTL was ever seen as 'just Another World' even remotely. It simply occasionally had AW stars coming aboard. And in the late '90s, they didn't fit. Jacquie Courtney and George Reinholt's characters fit in much easier, but Reinholt's in particular didn't last and Courtney's became quite different. OLTL and AW were dramatically different shows IMO, which is why JFP forcing actors from it onto the show didn't work or last.
