I have to admit I am in the dark about most of Adela's history beyond the origins (that she was abused and then pushed down the stairs and died). Plus, giving Ric up entirely to Trevor wasn't solid either. Idk, times were different back then, but it does seem like she chose her abusers over her children. She was obviously a victim and it's sad, but I don't think she ever went above and beyond for either child and was more concerned about keeping a husband. I am sure other people's mileage will vary on this.
