A number of errors in the above article. You wonder how with all that research,how  they slipped through.

I think they are conflating Women Alone with Lonely Women. I have never read anything of a serial called Women Alone. However,I am prepared to be proven wrong.

 

It seems Irna actually WAS interested in TV soaps as witnessed by These Are My Children airing in 1949 on NBC in the early days of TV.

 

I don't believe that was reluctance, rather simply good business sense as radio's dominance began to wane.

 

Inferring that was somehow connected to Irna who was off that show 10 years prior.

 

Again inferring that Phillips leaving 6 years prior had some connection to the eventual cancellation.

 

 

Again these two events are in fact one. Irna left ATWT only once in 1970 and returned in 72. She was not working on another P&G show at the time. So either she brought the ratings up or they dipped, depending on which above account you believe

 

Untrue. A World Apart debuted 5 years after she left AW. And AWA aired longer than a few months. Over a year in fact.

 

I believe Orin Tovrov was the writer. Irna was not involved in the creation of this show. And no mention of Masquerade an Irna serial  which was on air around this time.

 

TBD finished in 1962.

As we see over and over, these inaccuracies are published and accepted as fact.

Agreed. Certainly there was concern maybe even fear at the highest levels for the very good reason that what they had was so economically successful, so of course this risk was scary but if anyone was brave she was.

Yes, he was. I have seen her associated with getting it on the air one other place but no details nor official title. Not the writer or creator so it made me wonder if she functioned as a kind of uncredited ad hoc producer, but then maybe she just supported it. At any rate that is nothing but supposition on my part. No data!

Yes, not a surprise anymore but still so frustrating! On one hand I am appreciative that she is included in this book, but scholarship where are you?!

She concludes with Claire Labine's words, delivered by Mary Mae to Stone who was near death. It's famous now, "Every moment of my life, whether filled with joy or with pain has potential for grace realized. ... These are gifts from god. ..."

EB & MTS introduce AW Jensen Buchanan & Tom Eplin who present Best Supporting Actress with nominees GH Rosalind Cash, AW Anna Holbrook, Y&R Victoria Rowell, Y&R Michelle Stafford & Y&R Tonya Lee Williams with Anna Holbrook taking the win & in accepting she shouted out to Rosalind Cash who played Mary Mae Ward on GH & has recently passed. 
Louie Anderson, comic & the cartoon "The Mask" presented a pre-produced segment on Daytime.

The emcee voiceover introduced Susan Lucci who then herself introduced from DAYS Kristian Alfonso & Peter Reckell who presented Clarence again & the "show off" of DAYS. 
EB & MTS introduced Y&R Peter Bergman & ATWT Eileen Fulton who presented Best Directing Team with nominees AMC, DAYS, GH & Y&R with Y&R taking home its 5th win in this category. Heather Hill accepted. 
EB threw again to Clarence for GH. 
EB introduced NYPD Blue James McDaniel & DAYS Deidre Hall who presented Best Actor with nominees GH Maurice Benard, Y&R Peter Bergman, Y&R Eric Braeden, AMC David Canary & AW Charles Keating who won for the first time & gave a lovely acceptance speech where he said that no one wins by themselves & that it is a collaborative effort so he accepts on behalf of the AW acting ensemble. 
MTS introduced GL Michael Zaslow & Kim Zimmer who presented Best Actress with nominees AW Jensen Buchanan, AW Linda Dano, AMC Susan Lucci, OLTL Erica Slezak & Y&R Jess Walton with Slezak taking home #5 & making a gracious acceptance speech which included nods to all the other nominees. 
VO introduced Y&R Shemar Moore & Victoria Rowell who presented Clarence again, this time to show off Y&R. 
EB & MTS introduced Charles Shaughnessey ex-DAYS & current-The Nanny who presented Best Show with nominees AMC, DAYS, GH & Y&R where GH won for their 4th time with EP Wendy Riche accepting & first calling out 3 losses they had this year: Lee Mathis, Rosalind Cash & John Beradino. Then in a brilliant moment she invoked the words of Claire Labine, said by Rosalind Cash as Mary Mae Ward to Stone, near death, a now very famous quote: "Every moment of my life, whether filled with joy or with pain, has the potential for grace realized. Whether it's an opportunity to learn, or whether it's to make a connection, or whether it's to find love which you didn't think existed, these are gifts from god & to throw them back in his face is something unthinkable to me."

A friend recently lost an Oscar. My agent said, 'Following in the steps of Susan Lucci couldn't do you any harm.' So I have to rethink my entire career. THE ROAD OF LIFE from 12-13-1984 to 7-1-1955. But this soap had been on radio & very popular from as far back as 1937. Then in 1954 P&G suggested to Irna Phillips that she develop this project for television & P&G would sponsor it. It may have been the beginnings of the sponsor-owned soaps.

Next, DAYS Mary Beth Evans & Stephen Nichols present Best Supporting Actor nominees GH Maurice Benard, GH Stuart Damon, GH Brad Maule, B&B Ian Buchanan, Y&R Scott Reeves & Y&R Aaron Lustig with Buchanan winning for his portrayal of James Warwick. Y&R their 4th win with 10 writers on their team. The tie made it exciting.

In the spring of 1992, One Life to Live sent two of its newest characters on a collision course. The small fictional town of Llanview could be a tough place to be queer, and as rumors began to circulate about young Billy Douglas (Ryan Phillippe, in his first-ever screen role), Reverend Andrew Carpenter (Wortham Krimmer) was a rare sympathetic ear for the teenager. Some Llanview residents eventually opened their minds and put aside their bigotries, though Billy’s father wouldn’t do the same, and the story line culminated in Reverend Carpenter bringing a portion of the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt to Llanview, to which he added a panel for his brother, a gay man who died from AIDS-related complications.

Watching from home, a young actor named Neil Tadken was inspired. HIV had been decimating marginalized populations (particularly queer people of color, trans people, and sex workers) for over a decade, but it was still mostly taboo in scripted television. If One Life to Live could bring the AIDS crisis to the airwaves, why couldn’t more shows? And why not all at once? Tadken began writing letters and making phone calls, and a year later, on June 21, 1993, the Day of Compassion was born: a day where AIDS and HIV-related programming could be found on multiple daytime TV shows across multiple channels. This Pride month marks the 25th anniversary of the project.
