I am very sorry to read this. I thought San Martin's original iteration of Dario worked for the time and for what the show was in that moment. I liked Dario / Melanie even if I liked Melanie / Nathan more. Pairing the former con woman with the current con man had potential that never was monopolized due to timing (Dario was introduced very late into Higley / Whitsell / Tomlin and quickly booted).

San Martin was green, but I remember him being charming and leaving an impression earlier when he appeared as a hospital patient who infect Nathan and Melanie with some fictional virus that required them to quranatine together while the hovered near death.

I know Banus is a bit controversial, but I am glad she shared this. There is something special to me about those soap friendships that are maintained beyond the space of their time on the soap (in this case it was particularly short).

Too many soap people have passed in recent years.

So young. So devastating. I can't stand hearing people taken from us so young. And it's happening more and more.

May his soul rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of his passing, may he RIP.

I had to look up who he was on B&B…and it all came rushing back to me of a story I had actually blocked in my head as Sheila’s goon during the painting story.

Thanks @dc11786 for the memories as well, by the time Dario was on screen in 2011 the show was completely unmoored and unraveling fast.

I didn't have a problem with 2011 until MarDar arrived, but I also wasn't as aware of how dark the tone had gotten by the dying days of Higley/Whitsell because I was so in the midst of it. Despite the darkness (Carly the pill popping doctor and Chloe the post partum mom turned prostitute) there was such lighter fare involving people like Maggie, Justin and Adrienne, and others that it didn't feel as bleak as it was.

There was definitely a massive shift in cast and story in the first to second quarter of 2011, which hadn't been the case for the past 2 years. After the big names were dumped in early 2009, the show's cast was relatively stable with a few people coming in and leaving. By 2011, there was a mass exodus (Shelley Henning and Jay Kenneth Johnson quit and Mark Hapka was let go) and there were new people introduced. I thought the transition was smoother than expected by playing the Brady / Melanie / Dario triangle, which wouldn't have worked forver, but made story sense given Arianna's recent death, Melanie and Brady's connection to Arianna, and resolving the thread of the hit and run driver by tying it back to her ex Troy.

I don't know how I would feel revisiting that period today, but I enjoyed it immensely at the time.

I saw how he died yesterday, but wasn't sure if it was appropriate to mention how he died. Why does LA have a site where they publicize in detail how civilians pass away? It seems unnecessary for it to be so easily accessible. Either way, he seemed so full of life and had a glow up since his time on DAYS. You really never know what something is going through. R.I.P.

    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
