“To all of the young people in this nation and for anyone in search of what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning – the good life – study Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith, and humility,” Biden said in a statement.

"I have one life and one chance to make it count for something. I’m free to choose that something. That something—the something that I’ve chosen—is my faith. My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have, to try to make a difference."
-- Jimmy Carter, per his niece Kim who relayed the quote > link to source <

"I have learned that our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others, and this is especially true when those others are desperately poor or in need."
-- Jimmy Carter, from an interview with Habitat for Humanity (Link)

"Yet although economic disparity is a great and growing problem, I have become convinced that the most serious and unaddressed worldwide challenge is the deprivation and abuse of women and girls, largely caused by a false interpretation of carefully selected religious texts and a growing tolerance of violence and warfare, unfortunately following the example set during my lifetime by the United States."
-- Jimmy Carter. An excerpt from a book he wrote on women:

Thank you, Jane. I read these moving words & I think about how much I admired this man & I find myself weeping. Earlier I did not cry. I was focused then on how right it felt for him to be together again with his wife. Now this morning I am just a blubbering mess.

Has anyone seen an announcement of whether the soaps will be pre-empted for his funeral on the 9th?

Ceremonies, public events, and funerals January 4-9, 2025

President Jimmy Carter funeral proceedings began today Saturday January 4th in Plains, Georgia, and then at the Carter Center in Atlanta.

His body will be in repose in Atlanta for a few days, and the public is invited to pay their respects in Atlanta throughout this time.

Then he will be brought to Washington DC.  His body will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Building for a few days.  The public is invited to pay their respects at the Capitol Tuesday evening January 7 and specific hours Wednesday January 8.

Funeral at the National Cathedral Thursday January 9.  Then he will be brought back to Plains, Georgia, later the same day, for a private family funeral at the Plains church, and burial at home.

I didn't quote specific times, so as to prevent myself from making errors that I cannot edit. And just in case the schedule later changes.

Full official details with times and specific locations (all Eastern time zone) at this link:

That link also lists protocols for the general public at the bottom of the page.
