GH: November 2024 Discussion Thread

I posted this sentiment just yesterday. The post was about Drew. I said his sending Ric to Jason the way he did showed that he doesn't know his twin at all. I don't know what to think about Drew having Jason's memories unless it's not a thing anymore. If he understood Jason at all he'd know Jason is not going to speak about this not because of Drew but because of Michael. It was one thing for him to pay off Cody for his silence. But to attempt a similar stratagem with Jason via Ric was some kind of cosmic joke. And, it was quite funny that one moment when Ric thought Jason was gonna hit him & he looked absolutely petrified. The Ric I remember from before would not have been afraid of Jason.

I am not as unhappy with the show as y'all are. I watch the whole show, daily. I watch in a group of fans & on commercials or when we stop tape, we discuss. Sometimes we agree. More often we do not. But it's fine. It's just discussion & debate with fan analysis. I think the people who say they watch for one character or one ship or one family are doing it wrong. I firmly believe soaps are & were written to be enjoyed as a whole.

I'm the only one who likes Kristina. I'm the only one who wants to throttle Molly. Our common bond is that we are Carly & Jarly fans. We all hate Sonny for the lying piece of cold-blooded murdering narcissistic trash that he is. Most of them think Donna should never have been born. I call her Donna Dimples & acknowledge the relationship she has with her Daddy Dimples. Our philosophy about CarSon is two-fold: Never Again & ABC when ABC means Sonny with Anyone But Carly.

It was pointed out to me, correctly, that Michael did not go to Jason to talk about his marriage. Instead they found themselves at the same bar & naturally began to talk. So, that made me think, how often do we see Jason in a bar, these days I mean, not like BITD when he could be counted on to be at Jake's anytime. Also, Michael is also not much of a frequenter of bars, either. So, I think these writers are incorrigible in that they will put just anything into place to facilitate some action they want to have happen. This made me think. Are they incorrigible in this way? Will they go to any lengths to get the desired action, logical or usual or typical or not?

At the risk of coming off like a hypocrite, Imma just say it: Gio has a nice butt. And I've already called attention to his overall impressive physique they have taken bizarre, BLQ-esque pains to hide for months. But while the character still has very little discernable personality or purpose to speak of (beyond the looming fear of a pointless Dante/BLQ bloodline tie), GM's own energy onscreen is very bright and happy to be here. He's started to have more fun onscreen in scenes with the Qs as opposed to just standing around beaming and saintly like he was in the summer, and it's become kind of infectious. It's obvious they are terrified of doing anything interracial at this point since they backed off putting him with Trina ASAP after he first started, but hey, Gio's cute, increasingly fun and I'd still like to see them smash even if it's just once. Trina isn't gonna fall in love with Kai Taylor overnight and she needs a fling with a cheery twunk! (Though to be clear, Kai is also cute.)

All I'll say about Robert and Holly's ridiculous exit that I haven't already is I cringed watching TR carry his own bags. Robert's appearance increasingly began making me think of an animatronic Star Wars puppet in his final weeks and I've spent days worrying a fall or other accident will happen on-camera. The onscreen decline is sad but if Tristan is happy with this HEA then I'm happy for him, even if I can't stand Holly or her whining rationalizations for her endlessly self-obsessed behavior. I don't really want to see them come back in a few months tbh but I'm sure they will for visits, and if it keeps Tristan cared for and poor Emma Samms financed that's good I guess. I've grown to hate Holly but ES doesn't deserve what she's gone through in the pandemic, and I am glad when GH can care for these actors.

Anna staring aghast as Holly produced the diamonds from her wallet to once again explain herself sent me. Anna should just be like ‘remember the thing with the monkeys, Holly? Have you made reparations to them? Been by Tony’s grave?'

The historian must've been sleeping that day.

The character is Gio, to me, is pointless casting of Giovanni Mazza. Mazza, while green (to me), would have fair more suited a Cameron Webber recast than another retconned family member.

I do think the plan was to put Gio with Trina, but they got scared off from the pairing. Such a shame, too, because I felt like both Mazza & Tabyana Ali had that spark between them that could have ignited.

He brings an actual goofy, fun energy to his scenes with the Quartermaines. A welcome gentle sarcasm and both verbal and physical commentary instead of their normal biting wit. I don’t think he has much more to offer right now, but there should always be room for a charming, good looking person on a soap.

I think they should've tested him to see if he had enough raw talent to be a Spencer recast - Chavez was not a master thespian on Day 1 either. But I also think there was a clear agenda in not recasting that role right now. NuCameron could've worked.

I like Gio and I think there is a place he could find on canvas without the needless secret child thing with BLQ/Dante, but I have no faith in this team finding it.

He could have been a decent Spencer but I don't think he commands the presence I do believe the role requires. Plus, it feels like the Cassadine era of GH is on pause. Nikolas is in jail (with occasional visits), Valentin & Charlotte are gone (YAY), and Alexis barely acts like a Cassadine. It's clear the Spencer side of Laura's children is their focus, and Cameron would've fit into that mold.

Gio just feels like the character that has no sense of direction outside of occasionally playing violin, and now being the grown-up male Violet.

I doubt it too, but I think it was worth finding out. Plus they could've played up the spoiled, fun-loving hedonistic child of privilege side of Spencer again with Esme gone, which is an energy GM can handle. I do think the only reason the Cassadines are on pause is because GH is terrified to recast Spencer with Trina still on canvas. They need plausible deniability on keeping that fanbase out of their hair.

I do wonder whatever other family leads they had on Gio when he first debuted, because his many discussions of his dead parents were not subtle.

Actually it's more accurate to say that I also love Kristina, not like. With Donna, it's just so clear to me that even at her young age she has her own special relationship with her Dad. I have no opinion on Avery, so I'm not standing in your way there. Thanks for replying.

I do think Gio’s characterization has been better under the current regime because they’ve leaned into the actors goofiness and sarcasm but he’s barely ever on now, and when he is I don’t see any real chemistry with Trina or Joss outside of friendship. He comes off like their gal pal instead of another viable young male they could be paired off with.

My last ditch effort if I thought the show would allow it would be to make him gay and do a line stepping triangle with him secretly messing with both Lucas and Aidan on some messy down low type of timing.

I'm not sure it's a huge change in the writing for Gio so much as it's what GM is bringing to stuff that is largely stale onscreen now that he's comfortable with his scene partners.

I would easily make Gio cheerily and matter of factly bi, but they'll never do that.

    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
    • This is a effin shame. Eff Trump and eff the bastards that enable him.
    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.

    • Haha that scarf thing did go on a bit too long, very odd. And what a young Rick!  I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I just never got the physical appeal of Grant Aleksander, but he's definitely a great actor. Who is the older lady around the 8:30 mark, and also ends the episode, alone and in pain? She seems like a really interesting character. I love the smoky voice and sultry, snaky vibe she seems to have.
    • I can't remember exactly but I think she lives in or is part of the cottage story with Carrie. Carrie poisons her in this episode.  I forgot Teresa was on the show. (I see that AI is insisting she wasn't - well they're wrong) Poor Maeve. I can how even she had her limits.
    • It pisses me off that the other Duprees are making this incident all about them as well. They are playing a family of victims, acting as if Ted cheated on all of them. They should be supportive, but not like this. I have a family that makes anything that happens to me personally all about them, and seeing the same thing on TV is rage-inducing.
