Following last Friday’s dramatic conclusion of “General Hospital,” wherein an unarmed John Cates was shot twice at point blank range by mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), actor Adam J. Harrington recently took to social media to formally confirm his exit from the daytime drama series.

“Well @GeneralHospital it was a BLAST, literally!” Harrington opened in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “To @valentinifrank, producers and writers. Thank you for the SHOT at joining your world. I loved it. To the phenomenal cast and crew. It was a honor to witness the CALIBER of your work. Now, seriously, I will miss you all.”

In a separate post, Harrington thanked the fans for embracing him, saying, “To the @GeneralHospital viewers and fans. It’s been a honor being in your world, and feeling your passion.” He added, “To those who have written a goodbye, I’ve read every word and I’m deeply humbled. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Until we meet again … Adam.”

Harrington’s posts come just a few days after he initially teased his exit from the show, saying, “Good night all…..” in another post on X (formerly Twitter) which accompanied a photo of a sunset. That post was published just over a half-hour after the episode of his character being shot aired in markets where the show airs at 3:00 p.m. ET (New York).

Although he has yet to announce what’s next in his career, days earlier the avid surfer shared that he was working “remotely” as he enjoyed some fun in the sun and the open water off the beaches of Costa Rica.

Harrington first appeared in Port Charles on the Friday, February 2 episode of “General Hospital” when viewers were re-introduced to Jagger, now going by his first name, John, as he met Carly (Laura Wright) outside of the newly christened Bobbie’s eatery, which is named after Carly’s late mother, Bobbie Spencer (played by the late Jacklyn Zeman).

Prior to Harrington’s portrayal, the John “Jagger” Cates character last appeared in Port Charles in 2008, albeit on the spinoff series “General Hospital: Night Shift,” with original portrayer Antonio Sabato Jr. returning. Sabato Jr. previously portrayed the character on the flagship series for two years, from 1992-1994, a time when the character was primarily known to friends and family simply as “Jagger.”

In 2017, Harrington appeared in five episodes of the VH1 drama “Daytime Divas,” which chronicled the lives of five female co-hosts as they fought for power at a popular daytime talk show. The show starred Vanessa Williams (“Ugly Betty”).

In 2023, Harrington received a BAFTA nomination for Performer in a Supporting Role for voicing the role of Sindri in the acclaimed video game “God of War Ragnarök.”

To see how the fallout over the death of John Cates plays out on “General Hospital,” make sure to tune in weekdays on ABC or stream anytime on Hulu.

He'd make a great Thorne recast on B&B.

Good call.

Though Brad would probably waste him, too.
