GH: Fan Fave Fired. Actress Blindsided

There is a bit of Frank apologist in trying to blame Kelly or some outside force at the network. Which I find hilarious.

There are several examples of Frank Valentini being petty towards actors that make things difficult. We know he absolutely hates if someone talks about bts dirt or criticizes the show. Tristan Rogers told his fans one of his abrupt departures was because Frank was pissed about what he said about the show. Sean Kanan was fired and his character killed off just a couple years after a popular resurrection after complaining about lack of story. And negative comments about his appearance were allowed to be in the scripts IIRC. NLG “joked” on Twitter that Alexis being sidelined and sent to jail was because Frank was mad at her. Kin has openly complained and been punished too.

Kelly publicly spoke up about the show getting rid of Billy. And visibly tanked her onscreen story with Jason because she wanted to act with her real life partner. It was so uncomfortable to watch that Burton even spoke about it, saying what worked before was not working anymore when they broke them up.

Do I believe he is capable of icing someone out? Yes I do. I also believe the way this was handled was not good. But I don’t believe she did something so egregious that Disney got involved. Please.

Also! People around here have argued before about a contract not being renewed or being dropped to recurring is not fired. It absolutely is. They were let go.

I'm sure I join lots of fans who agree that Frank can definitely be petty & that pettiness can turn punitive.

Do you recall a time when Scotty was in the middle of a trial & they changed to Diane, saying that Scotty had to go help Serena who was in trouble from protesting about the whales? (Hilarious actual dialogue.) According to the actors that was a time when Kin was being punished for something. (I don't have the link to the actor saying it, but it could probably be found.)

 Thank you for saying it.

If a name were to come in, I'd want to see Shelly Curtis return to General Hospital. She is a creative who I do think would have a vision for the soap, and would be able to handle budget. Promptly and properly. Plus, she's not someone who worked under Frank Valentini, which is a promising sign of good things to possibly happen.

Most important to me is she worked under both Monty and Riche. She knows the DNA of the show and worked with many of the actors and helped develop characters. Based on interviews she still seems to get it too. We need people like her mentoring so that the correct lessons are learned.

Curtis talking about understand how things work now, and then furthering to detail her time on B&B and how she turned out content under the time she said she had, even with them running over time. And other examples of what she did. This is what we need on GH. And then quite literally said, without naming Frank, by stated they either don't have the expertise or have the team behind them to produce lightning in a bottle. This is what GH needs.

This is why I don't get the outrage of her exit. They tried to give her story and we know she tanked that story and has been phoning it in for years. She's lucky to have lasted as long as she did considering the performances she was giving.

They needed to get rid of someone likely for the budget and also, as we saw in the ratings, killing off a major character can generate good ratings and story. Who else would yall recommend they have gotten rid of with a similar pay? She didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Hell, she definitely doesn't seem like she wants to return and yet her fans are still begging for her job back. I just don't get it.

Shelley Curtis would make a great EP if they hired someone from the past, Id pick her or Wendy Riche.

I agree to an extent but also feel for Sam fans and KM. Although when many were pissed that GF was taken off contract in 2018, many were like its not big of a deal. A lot of it has to do with who you relate to as a character

Chris, you are so right. It's very confusing. On the one hand, some fans say what terrible treatment. On the other hand, some fans say they want her back in that same spot. This, to me, is a giant contradiction. I'm trying not to judge Frank. Also not judging Kelly. But these fans, some of them, OY. They are just a lot. A lot to take, I mean.

John, Shelly Curtis & Wendy Riche are definitely gold standard. But, like me, getting up there in age.

One thing I find interesting about some Sam/Kelly fans, is that before she leaked the news of her firing, we saw very little fan engagement about Sam McCall or even about Sante.

It’s wild how many people think there was some plot by Frank to keep JaSam apart as a couple. Did they watch when the show broke them up? It was because of the talent that the relationship was ended, and by all accounts one-sided on her end. I would feel differently if there were any leaks that Burton was not kind to her or was difficult to work with. I don’t even like the guy and I haven’t heard anything about them not getting along.

I do feel sympathy for her- she lost a job that she has been in for over 20 years, in what has also been a difficult few years personally. I do think FV is petty and is mismanaging the show. I feel for her fans too.

She can never say her fans didn’t try very to hard save her job. They did online and offline which matters. Only time will tell if there is a longterm effort. Genie fans and people just upset with Frank went after him consistently for a long time before they seriously reached out to Genie to try to get her to return.

    • I also wonder if it was considered controversial at the time to show a morally corrupt doctor?(another character troupe for Agnes Nixon, the upstanding male citizen who is hiding secrets back at home) Up until the early 1970s, prime-time would very rarely tell stories about the private lives of doctors, because advertisers tended to shy away from such content.
    • The only blonde I see is one of the actual women staring at first & then screaming & running later.  DAYS: Vivian's manservant Ivan is in a long curly red wig.

Y&R: long straight black wig is the actor Peter Barton whose character name I am blanking on.
    • I very much liked office Cleary and the actress who portrayed her (as you say, Mary Peterson).  A shame her turn didn't evolve into a contract role.   BTW, does anyone know the timeframe/years that Betty Rae served as casting director?  If i understand correctly, she not only led the effort for contract roles, but also for shorter 13- and 26-week roles.  IMO, GL had LOTS of very well-casted, limited roles, too. I'm surprised the actors throughout the soap industry, and especially P&G actors, have not assembled a book or something similar, praising Rae.  Each actor could write a few paragraphs or a page of text describing his or her experience.
    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
