I agree: it's clear that the Dupree family was the most important in terms of casting, and casting "names" was top priority. And I'd wager they aced it out of the park. They visually do look like a family, and their connection seems solid.

Well, no offense, but only four of the main cast are White, and only one of them would be considered any kind of name (Mike Manning). I'd stick to allowing select cast duos/groups of two/three and doing individual CBS affiliate interviews.

Of course it makes sense to try and promote the non-core cast members more in relation with each other (ie Mike Manning and Brandon Claybon should probably appear in the same promotional circuit). I just hope they take all opportunities to promote this far and wide and manages to walk that thin line between not pigeon-holing the show while also celebrating for it for what it's setting out to achieve.

It's interesting how these things play out....

I checked out ThisIsUs on NBC because I'd enjoyed Justin Hartley on Y&R, and heard he was doing a primetime show.

Sterling K. Brown soon became one of my favorite actors of all time, and I began to follow his work.  And also began to follow Susan Kelechi Watson and Ron Cephas Jones as well (and was so sorry to learn that RCJ passed away in 2023).
I checked out Justin Hartley's newer show Tracker but it's not half the quality that ThisIsUs was.

I checked out Queen Sugar on OWN (and didn't have OWN so purchased it on amazon), and then rewatched the whole series on Hulu.
I started watching Queen Sugar because I'd enjoyed Greg Vaughan on DAYS, and heard he was doing a primetime/cable/streaming/whatever show.
It's not that Greg Vaughan was a highlight, it's simply that I learned about Queen Sugar because I'd seen him on Days.

Rutina Wesley, Tina Lifford, and Kofi Siriboe from Queen Sugar became actors I respected,  and will follow them in other work they do. (well, most of the cast, but especially those three)

There are a zillion shows on primetime/cable/streaming, so I don't have any way to sort through all the announcements of all those zillion shows.
In both cases, actors from daytime soaps (Y&R and DAYS) drew me to watch amazing shows (ThisIsUs and QueenSugar) which I wouldn't have known about otherwise. 
I think I'd categorize both as nighttime soaps but with serious thought-provoking ideas as well as romance and family stuff.

And from that, I began to follow the Black actors from ThisIsUs and QueenSugar.

I honestly don't remember how ThisIsUs was promoted but I think the promotion was more mainstream due it being on NBC, articles on the usual industry sites plus some televised interviews.  And an intriguing promo that caught my attention.

QueenSugar was promoted by Oprah Winfrey.  Not sure how the mainstream TV press covered it.

That's because some problems are just universal once people can see beyond black, white, gay, straight or whatever arbitrary category people may place others in. Val Jean clearly understands this from interviews and is clearly pushing for it.

However, the issue will always be to get people to give a show a shot in the first place - clearly you might've walked into Queen Sugar because of Vaughan, but clearly stayed because storylines, characters and actors connected to you in a personal sense. And that's what the promotion for Beyond the Gates needs to realistically achieve - get people to give it a chance for whatever reason, but stay for the drama and because they suddenly connect to characters they might not have expected to.

      OH, I AM.   And it looks like it's a pretty good episode so I might watch later on this weekend after work cuz I see a lot of scenes with people I actually like. Very happy to see Rocco/Danny appear to be getting story, too.

      I do agree that a revival of EON would work, if it doesn't fall into doing all of the typical soap opera tropes... which it became guilty of in the final few years of the show with the over abundance of Raven/Sky at the expense of the actual detectives, police, etc. And I know it was mentioned earlier that Raven had lost any true connections on the show with the death of her on screen mother, and the loss of April/Draper/Deborah.. and I do agree with that. I actually thought the show would have done something with the Shelley character that could have connected her to the Raven character.  There were a few scenes where the two would have scenes and size one another up before they would go their separate ways.. so I assumed perhaps they would have been revealed as half-siblings and/or perhaps cousins.  Alas.. not to be.

      It definitely flowed beautifully. So much that I was annoyed when Vanessa/Doug because I wanted to get back to the party. I know it was intentional to build up tension and suspense. It worked. lol. I'm glad it was there in hingsight because it gave us that great conversation between Doug and Vanessa. Foreshadowing? And yesss!!! This episode was sooo old school soap giving beat after beat after beat leading up to the unveiling of Eva as Ted's daughter. And we still have plenty of fallout/aftereffects to work through.   Speaking of...Bill, Bill, Bill lol. Good to have confirmation HE was the scary lawyer.   I'm sure I will have a busy Monday, but I can't wait for it. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more. Probably Anita vs Silk Press Sheila tbh. And yes, I feel they will be matching each other 'blow for blow.'

      @AbcNbc247 maybe it is just that they've gone to that well too often, and I don't like when DAYS goes dark, but I'm OK with EJ abusing drugs, and just skipping the whole sobriety part. Side note: experiencing hallucinations of my son killing me would be enough for me to never want to take a pill again.

      Part of the reason that Courtney worked at OLTL was because the show had an actual character for her to play.  One that was somewhat different than her character on AW, and after the way she was treated over at AW.. it had to have been nice to be courted onto a new soap that actually valued your contributions.
