Yoba will reprise his role as J.C. Williams from the original series. In the followup, Williams is now overseeing the unit and the next generation of detectives.

New York Undercover picks up 20 years after the end of the original series that changed the face of TV cop dramas. It will follow detectives Nat Gilmore and Melissa Ortiz as they investigate the city’s most dangerous criminals from Harlem to Battery Park. Some cast members from the original series are expected to reprise their roles.

 

 

Luna Lauren Velez is apparently in talks to return as well. I wish they'd just resurrect Eddie (Michael DeLorenzo). And they need Patti D'Arbanville!

Yeah, I heard this was in the works awhile ago.  

Malik hasn’t aged a damn day in 20 years. I always loved Patti (even on GL), so I’d love to see her again.

I loved this show to death and have mourned its descent into rebranded whiteness and electric guitar in its final season many a time on SON. (With Tommy from Martin as the new sergeant! Tommy!!)

Oof. The beat’s kind of sick, but nope. I had stopped watching by then.

 

 

That's actually Season 4, and yeah, the beat is okay but the guitar was the first thing where I was like '[!@#$%^&*] no'. To say nothing of the new cast. IIRC a bunch of those eps didn't air in the States (including one where Nina tracks down Eddie's killer) bc it sucked and got cancelled.

 

The Unsung ep above has a few muted spots due to music license worries, FYI.

Yeah, clarinet riff > that basic guitar riff all day. I’ll check out that Unsung.

I'm gonna need one of those YouTube uploaders with Unsung/Unsung Hollywood episodes to finally add the Patrice Rushen episode.  It's been like 2 years now. 

The Patrice Rushen episode is the only Unsung episode that I still haven't seen, that I truly want to see.

TVOne never put the Rushen episode on the dang website.

MC Lyte (Power), Otmara Marrero (StartUp), Toby Sandeman (She’s Gotta Have It), Anna Enger (Chicago Med) and Octavio Pizano (If Loving You Is Wrong) are set as series regulars opposite Malik Yoba and Luna Lauren Velez in ABC’s New York Undercover pilot, a contemporary reboot of the cop drama, from Dick Wolf, Hand of God creator Ben Watkins and director Anthony Hemingway.

Written by Watkins based on a story he wrote with Wolf, New York Undercover picks up 20 years after the end of the original Fox series that changed the face of TV cop dramas. It will follow detectives Nat Gilmore and Melissa Ortiz as they investigate the city’s most dangerous criminals from Harlem to Battery Park.

 

They join previously announced Yoba and Velez, who reprise their respective roles as JC Williams and Nina Moreno from the original series.

 

Lyte is Lt. April Freeman, a hard-driving boss with a genius IQ. Marrero will play Melissa Ortiz, a fiery young detective who blends well undercover. Sandeman is Nat Gilmore, charismatic with an easy smile and a quick fuse. Enger portrays Lisa Kim, an ambitious climber. Pizano is Moses Hernandez, an eager beaver with a hero complex.
