No Dallas that week -Knots aired Fri at 10.

Peoples Choice aired Thurs 9-11 pre-empting Barnaby Jones & Knots.

Tenspeed & Brown shoe was heavily promoted and the 2 hr premiere did well Sun 8-10 but the ratings immediately dropped as Archie Bunker/One Day at a Time dominated.

Allegedly, "Tenspeed" is former president Bill Clinton's favorite show.

Well they only made a handful of episodes so he has possibly seen them hundreds of times if he likes to revisit.

Tenspeed had to fill Sunday @8 after ABC made the foolish decision to move Mork & Mindy to Sunday in it's second season. And give it crappy sitcoms as a lead in and team it with an incompatible new sitcom The Associates. After an initial strong start, Mork started to be beaten by Archie Bunker and even NBC's Big Event so ABC admitted defeat and returned it to Thursday where it did better but never reached the kind of numbers it scored in S1.

Producers also made changes to "Mork" - dropping two regular characters, adding others - that hurt the show creatively. Between that and the time slot change, "Mork" became a textbook example of what happens when you mess with success.

The Winds of war was huge for ABC. It aired every night except Saturday.

Mon was 3 hrs #2. NBC aired a 2 hr Little House special which hit a season low.

CBS went with Mash/Newhart which had season lows and a movie special 'Packin' It In which had a 19 share.

Tues

WOW #4 . It aired 9-11 Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley won the lead in hour.

NBC did OK with the first episode of A Team-a sign of things to come but St Elsewhere @10 had an awful 10 share

CBS did well also @8 with Walt Disney

Wed

WOW #3

CBS went with a repeat of the movie The In Laws which hit a season low as did Quincy on NBC @10

Thurs

WOW #5 .ABC used the momentum to premiere Amanda's @ 8 and Condo @8.30 and viewers tuned in with them close to Magnum. But Simon & Simon and Knots Landing hit season lows. KL did beat Hill St Blues which had a 19 share.

Fri

WOW #6 for 3 hours

On CBS Falcon Crest hit a season low -22 share.

Sat

No Winds of War but ABC had TJ Hooker win @8 with a season high. Love Boat and Fantasy Island also won their slots.

But Diff'rent Strokes on NBC had a season high and CBS did an OK 29 share from the movie The Hunter.

Sun

WOW finale #1

All of CBS ' comedies bar Jeffersons had season lows.

NBC went with Smurfs 19 share /Family Circus Valentines 21 share, a Bob Denver pilot movie 'Invisible Woman' that ranked 27th and outrated the CBS comedies and then another pilot 'Highway Honeys ' which had a 14 share.

A little over a month after The Winds of War, ABC would broadcast The Thorn Birds and that scored even higher.

1983 was the height of miniseries and TV movies, wasn’t it? Especially for ABC as they would later air The Day After later that year in the fall.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I LIVED for miniseries in the '80's, lol. As long as I stayed in bed and woke up on time the next morning, I could stay up as late as I wanted. So, I watched a ton of [!@#$%^&*] I probably shouldn't have as a child, from trashy miniseries to Johnny Carson and SNL, and everything in between.

While the Winds of War was causing season lows for the soaps, here what was going on each of them:

Knots Landing 2/10/83

Richard physically attacks Ciji and Laura orders him to move out. Diana tells Karen she is moving to New York with Chip. Ciji blames Val for Gary's drinking. After Ciji does not show up to perform at the restaurant, her dead body washes ashore

Dallas-2/11/83

Cliff blames himself after the crash of the Wentworth company plane, which his mother took as a passenger in his place. Rebecca's accident is the latest episode caused indirectly by the ongoing war between Cliff and J.R.. Before Rebecca dies, she makes Pam promise to protect Cliff. Katherine flies in to join Pam and Cliff for the funeral and lashes out at Cliff for letting their mother fight his battles with the Ewings. J.R. is stunned when the energy commission rescinds his variance to pump oil and he quickly makes contact with Driscoll to establish a Caribbean oil deal. Holly tries to use the variance ruling to force J.R.'s hand in her company, but he points out that he now controls Harwood Oil. At Southfork, Pam makes a shocking announcement to Bobby.

Falcon Crest-2/11/83:

Lance and Melissa agree on a plan to take over Falcon Crest. After an unpleasant business meeting with Angela, Phillip forms an alliance with Richard, Later, Emma rushes into The Globeand suggests several improvements. Richard makes her Vice President. He also coerces neighbouring vineyardist Visconti into selling his vineyards and winery with the threat of cutting off a public road leading through Richard's land. Richard had hoped for Nick Hogan's political support in this but, torn between his love for Vickie and his business relationship with Richard, Nick decides against supporting Richard and also tells his wife that he wants a divorce. Cole begins a romance with Linda Caproni. Chase and Maggie's attempts to talk to each other only lead to more arguments. Julia encourages Maggie to come back to Chase and also offers Chase to support his investigation. Looking for Charles Fong, Chase, Julia and Cole approach his uncle Wilson in Chinatown, but he refuses help. A threatening note put under Julia's door fails to discourage her. When Charles Fong calls again, she rushes to meet him, but her car goes off the road and explodes, just as Chase and Cole arrive.

I definitely vaguely remember watching stuff series like Evergreen, North & South, War and and Remembrance, Lonesome Dove etc with my parents. Both Amerika (it is atrocious to watch as an adult lol who the heck greenlit it?) and A Year in the Life stick out the most for me.
