The Six Million Dollar Man & The Bionic Woman

Anyone else a fan of these two classic 70's shows ? I recently bought the DVD's and have been watching. Lindsay Wagner was amazing in the role of Jaime Sommers. Jaime was brought on for a 2 part episode arc in SMDM in early 1975 and died at the end when her body rejected her bionics. After the episodes aired they went on summer break. There was such a huge public outcry with people calling ABC and truck loads of mail flooding the studio. The writers realized they had made a mistake and quickly wrote a script where she was brought back in the season premiere 2 parter, but she had lost her memory of her and Steve's romance. They then figured after everyone saw Jaime alive they could write her off again and the public would be satisfied. The public again flooded the network and studio with calls and letters. They then realized they had struck gold and created the spinoff  "The Bionic Woman".

The love story of Steve and Jaime kept viewers tuning in to see if Jaime would get her memory back and if they would get together. It took them 20 years to get to the altar in a reunion movie. This is a nice video of Steve and Jaime's journey that someone posted that was shown to Lee and Lindsay for a Q&A session .

I was a fan of the shows  I have the box set of TSMDM and all the seasons of TBW. I preferred TBW actually over TSMDM. I have to say that the box set of TSMDM is awesome!  Lee Majors was a hunk back in the day.

I used to love TSMDM.  TBW struck me as a little silly, especially when she got a bionic dog.  I think people of a certain age will always remember Andre The Giant as Bigfoot and that weird tunnel, the fembots on TBW, and Steve singing that song about Jaime.   They were good ideas but I imagine time and inflation makes them not so impressive now.

    • I was incredibly moved by these scenes, especially Peter's performance. It felt so tender and real, especially when you remember Bo just got out of a years-long coma and wasn't going to be able to put up a front. You're reminded of how long these legends have populated the show when you have a 70 year old man grieving men who were almost 90 or 100, but Bo's response to Victor's death was a poignant reminder of how fresh these wounds are no matter your age. Normally these types of moments don't even make it in soap episodes in recent decades as they are seen as too boring. The more somber moments being balanced by Bo meeting his grandchildren was also lovely.  And the scene where Bo forgave Shawn may be the only time I've been in lock with Brandon Beemer's take on the part.  There's a certain element of suffocation with soaps, as shown here, when you remember so many of the kids are named after long dead relatives, or when they grew up, were paired with the kids of other longtime characters. That aspect always makes me yearn for new blood (new blood that doesn't suck, anyway), but there are other moments, like those with Bo, which make me appreciate all the history the show has.
    • A funny scene, Roger and Sonni go out to eat, at that place that had a colonial theme (I love when soaps have very specific places to eat..I hated the diners on GL, ATWT and AW) and this is just after Rog came back and Sonni hit the headlines and the waitress scremes.."Oh, Roger Thorpe, and YOUR...please dont' hurt me..." and they are all like, "Hey, were just hungry!" (most soaps now have someone go on a murder spree and the rest of the cast and extras look like they havent heard about it."

    • Thanks as always @Huntress always appreciate you popping in and sharing info about these shows. What are you thinking of them at present?
    • Per Flixpatrol, it's been at 4-4-5 (June 3rd to 5th).   https://flixpatrol.com/title/days-of-our-lives/
    • Someone has been posted episodes from 1994 and Jill Powell (Marcy Lafferty) has a hot storyline right now. Just googled her and in real-life she is now openly out as a Lesbian with a transgender son.
    • Did anyone else notice that DAYS has not been in the Top 10 most streamed shows on Peacock this week??? I find that very strange considering how good the show has been, especially this week.
